  1. I got my stitches out today. The infection is clearing up nicely but she got the results back from the culture and the antibiotics I was taking was not the best for the type of infection so she switched me to something else. I asked her about the pain I was feeling and acid and she said thats probably what it is. She's just a family dr and doesn't really know very much about this type of surgery. I bought some pepcid a few days ago and she told me just to take that and if I need something else she will write me a prescription. After taking the pepcid for a few days, the pain does seem to be better. I was only taking one but she told me to take 2 a day so I'll try that.
  2. My incision is looking so much better. I go to the dr tomorrow and I will get my stitches out. No other problems except the discomfort I feel when I eat sometimes. Like something is getting caught. I haven't wrote a post about my visit to Mexico yet but I do plan to. The weight loss seems slow to me. I've lost about 9 lbs since surgery. I used to be a pretty quick loser but I guess since I'm older now and so much yo-yo dieting, it's a lot harder. As for was it worth it... It's to early to say right now but so far, I'd say yes, it's worth it. I bought some pepcid and today was a bit better with the burning. I'll ask my dr for something better tomorrow for the acid.
  3. Bored to death of eating the same things. Being on a full liquid diet, I read that I can eat custard. I've been craving pumpkin since Thanksgiving. So I figured I'd look up a good pumpkin custard recipe. Here is what I found and it got really good reviews. I'm going to try it tonight and I'll let ya know. Ingredients 1 cup pudding mixture among four 5-oz microwave safe custard cups. Microwave on medium (50 percent) 2 to 3 minutes or until puddings are barely firm. (Do not overcook; puddings will thicken and firm more upon cooling.). Set aside to cool at least 10 minutes. 8. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate until cold. Fiber 1.9g 7% Sugars 19.1g Protein 5.6g 11%
  4. The more I read about what I'm feeling, I'm starting to fear it's a stricture. Anyone here had one?
  5. I noticed when I was eating some egg drop soup (homemade) today, every swallow hurt. It almost felt like there was a barrier and once it got past that it was fine. I was burping and my tummy was gurgling a lot as well so many it was a gas bubble. It has me really concerned though. I dont want eating to became something I totally dread because of pain.
  6. I'm on full liquids. It is allowed by my dr at this stage. So by taking small bites, it could be yogurt, oatmeal, pudding...
  7. I'm not. I have a Dr. appointment on Monday and I will for sure ask about that.
  8. I'm 8 days out from having the sleeve today and so far no real problems with it. Some acid burning sensation that usually goes away when I eat. Today though, it's the opposite. Whenever I eat, it burns. Every bite I take. It almost feels like heartburn but only when I take a bite. I'm eating the foods I should be. Have not cheated or anything like that. In fact I'm babying my sleeve because I'm paranoid about getting a leak. Anyone else have this feeling? Just wondering if I should be concerned. As I said, it just started today.
  9. Yum, I'd love to see the recipe too!
  10. Welcome Dan! Good luck on your journey. Sounds like you are off to a great start already. I just had the sleeve a week ago and if I can help in any way, let me know.
  11. No I'm not and that's the first I've heard of that. Can you recommend something?
  12. I will get a burning sensation in my stomach. It actually makes me cring for a sec. If I eat something that coats my stomach, it usually goes away. I dont know if it's hunger that is being fed or if it's acid and when I eat something it calms it. I've felt it since about 3 days post-op. Is the burning normal? Also, I'm finding that although I can't eat much at a time, I seem to be hungry often. Not head hunger but actual burning, stomach growling hunger. I feel like I'm eating at least a little something every couple hours. Just want to make sure something isn't wrong.
  13. Cannot stress enough, gas-x strips! 2-3 boxes of them. They were a life saver.
  14. I am one week out today and feeling a bit down. I came home from MX with a cold/sinus thing. On top of that, I have an infection in one of my incisions. Plus just trying to heal up from surgery. I have a low grade fever off and on. It's just really hard to know if my fever is from the cold, from my infection or if I am suffering a leak. I keep freaking out there I'm going to rip my stomach open. The cold is causing me to sneeze and although it doesn't really hurt to do so, it scares me to death. How long until I no longer have to worry about my stomach leaking? I know I'd be feeling so much better about everything if I didn't have all these other things going on at the same time. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Happy Thanksgiving all.
  15. Dr said it looks like the antibiotics are doing the trick and I wont need to have it reopened and drained, thank goodness! I'll see her again on Monday to make sure its still healing nicely and to get my stitches out. Thanks everyone.
  16. I have an incision that is infected as well. It's not because of a stitch still being in there. I'm only 5 days post-op. My pcp gave me a shot in the butt, cultured it, a script for some antibiotics and wants to see me again in the morning to see if they will have to reopen it, drain and pack it. I really hope these antibiotics do the trick.
  17. I'm home now but one of my incisions appears to be infected and i'm running a fever now too. I'm going to my PCP today. Please say a prayer that nothing major happens. So far everything has been great and I just want to keep my good spirits about this.
  18. Hi all. I'm now officially sleeved. It wasnt to bad. The pain has been minimal. The staff is really nice and super cute. I will be heading back home on Monday and I will post more then. Right now I'm ready to suck down some broth. Thanks for all the well wishes!
  19. This will be my last post before my surgery. I keep feeling butterflies. I'm nervous about everything that is going to happen in the next few days, but I'm way excited too! I'm amazed at how fast it got here. I really should be in bed but I have a feeling I will not get much sleep. I just wrote a letter to my family in case something does go wrong. It made me feel very weird to write it but I couldn't go without doing it. Did anyone else do that? I will need to be at the airport first thing in the morning. I'll be spending the night in San Diego and then off for surgery on the 19th. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that day. I'll make sure to post an update as soon as I get home or if at all possible while I'm there. Not sure on that yet. I'm not taking a laptop. Anyway. Wish me luck! Take care everyone and even though I haven't been a member for very long, you've all made me feel welcomed and I've learned a lot. Thanks everyone. Ginny Taylor P.S. I lost 11 lbs pre-op and possibly more by morning considering I couldn't eat yesterday, today or tomorrow. Clear liquids only. My relationship with food is already different and I haven't even had surgery yet.
  20. Good luck to you! Glad you are calm. I'm having my surgery the same day as you and i'm excited but a bit nervous. I feel a few butterflies here and there but I'm more than ready. Keep us posted!
  21. Hi Robin, welcome to the boards! I haven't had my sleeve yet but I'm scheduled to have it in 2 days. Needless to say, my nerves are a bit frazzled right now. I'm not sure about the out patient VSG but I'd say staying at least over night just to be safe. My husband was very set against me having this when we first talked about it. I've been overweight for 20 years. I used to be anti-WLS. Not for others, but for myself. I remember telling my husband probably 7-8 years ago when I would read about gastric bypass people, "Man! I would never do that. That's crazy". Well about 3 years ago is when I started to consider it for myself. I only looked into the lapband. I knew for me, I couldn't do the bypass. Anyway, I told my husband and he was like, "No way. You can do it on your own". So I agreed I would give it a real effort to do it on my own and I did. I lost 70 lbs in 2 years. Not the fastest loser or anything but I felt really good and thought I had this problem under control finally. But I was just kidding myself. I started to gain the weight back in the last 9 months and I've gained 50 lbs of it back. Just that fast! So I told my husband 3 months ago I wanted to have the VSG. He tried to scare me out of it. Especially going to Mexico. He was not being supportive at all. In fact he was really making me upset with some of the things he was saying to me. I finally sat him down and told him, "I'm doing this with or without your support. I love you and I need you to be by my side for this..." there was a bit more said, but you get the point. I basically told him the things he was saying to me were not nice and in fact I felt they were mean and if he loved me, he would want the best for me. Since then he's completely changed, at least outwordly towards me. He's supportive. He holds me the few times I broke down and cried in fear and assured me that everything will be okay. I think if you talk to your husband and tell him you are doing this for your health, maybe he will be more supportive. I mean, you can't eat cake and drink beer if you are dead from being obese. Ya know? Whatever happens, good luck to you. Sorry this post is so long its just that I can completely relate and i'm sure many others can as well.
  22. It was the first day out of three of my clear liquid diet and man was it hard! I know after the surgery I will have a lot more of this to endure. I just hope I wont feel so hungry. I've had popsicles, coffee, tea, crystal light, broth and Jello today. My daughter was cooking a hamburger and the smell was enough to make me wanna run over and take it from her! lol I didn't though. I'm hoping this gets easier. I feel a little light headed. I was thinking I'd need the Protein and energy before surgery so not sure what the purpose of a 3 day clear liquid diet is, but he's the Dr and I just do what I'm told. I'm hoping it wont be so hard to stick to liquids after the surgery since I'll have a smaller tummy but man, my tummy has been very mad at me today. Growling to the point of embarrassment.
  23. Welcome! I love your list. Gives everyone something to think about. I haven't been sleeved yet either but I will be soon. I wish you much success on your journey.
  24. Good luck to you! Please let us know how everything went asap. Will be thinking about you.
  25. Thank you all for the well wishes! Today i'm pretty calm. It's almost like I'm worried because I'm not feeling more nervous that I am. Silly huh? I should be thankful that I am calm and ready. My BMI is 50 and I did have to follow a pre-op diet. I've been doing Protein shakes and salad with Proteins on it for a week and a half. Today starts a clear liquid diet for 3 days and I must say, I'm starving! I also had to take a laxative today. I wouldn't worry about it if you dont need to. Every dr is different and has different rules. Good luck to us all!
