H1N1- positive
I have been home sick for the past two days, feeling better now. Maybe it was H1N1, I don't know.

Heftynetty checking in after difficult surgery
I think she is saying that the band damaged her stomach so much, that it wasn't ready to be more traumatized with a gastrectomy. Jeanette, I can't believe all you have gone through, thank God you are doing better. We are here for you and support your healing. There is nothing we can do about the past, you just have to keep moving forward, the worst is over now, the best is yet to come.

New Addiction?
What about the obvious? Sex instead of food? Hey, I don't have a man, so that isn't really an option for me, but if I did...whoa!

My OUT OF CONTROL moment
The time I had lost about 50 lbs and was on my way up again..I went to See's Candies and bought a two pound box, wrapped up for Easter, as if I were buying it for someone else...I kept in my desk at work and ate the whole thing over the next two days, prior to Easter. Ugh.. And, the time I was at my highest and had a large peperonie pizza delivered and hid it under my bed and ate the whole thing, over the course of the weekend. My ex-husband would never be my eating partner, so I did a lot of this in secret...he drank in secret and I ate in secret, like an unspoken agreement.. Then, after he left, I would drive every night after work through the fast food drive thru and get whatever looked horribly fattening, I just wanted to punish myself and did a very good job!! I am telling you, I feel like the biggest digusting loser addict on this whole board.

Is emotional eating a girl thing?
I am beginning to think for men, it's a volume thing, but for us, it's an emotional thing.

bad day yesterday...
It is normal to be extra sensitive right after surgery. That happened to me too, artificial sweetners were the worst. I think the Protein soups were the best bet for me, and milk. Did your surgeon send you home w/soups? You can buy them on line. I loved

went to my 1st support group mtg
It really helped, everybody was so honest and we could all totally relate to each other..about everything. It was wonderful. My surgeon totally rocks and so does his bariatric life coach. I am completely back on track because of it. If anybody has a WLS support group, I highly recommend going. God Bless!

can't get a grip
Thank you Ruby, for your support and kind words. You're right, it takes courage to admit this..and yes, I really could use a buddy if you're up to the task. I can be so stubborn at times. Maybe the throwing up and intense pain eating improperly will prevent the next time I contemplate a poor food choice. I have a phone appt with the nutritionist tomorrow for meal, shopping ideas, etc. But like she said, ultimately it is up to me. Gosh, it is it so horrible vomiting, today I was very compliant, only a taste, a little temptation and a little taste of something that I knew would cause intense pain/vomiting. I have to come to terms that my stomach only hold 2 to 4 oz at the most..and when I make bad choices, I will suffer the consequences, there is no way around it...it is really hard to eat around the sleeve, I have found out..the hard way. Even when I drank a milk shake, after 4 oz of it, I was incredibly nauseated by the richness, the sugar, it was repulsive to my body, but I guess after years of dieting and being put on a diet at the age of 8, there is a little rebel inside of me that pushes the envelope to the extreme. Perhaps, the sleeve is the best thing I could have ever done to save my life, my health. Happiness comes from within, and food cannot make us happy, in the long run, it is really not our friend unless it is just to maintain good health. Things feel better today and I thank all that have listened and not judged me too harsly. Believe me, I have already done that to myself..abusing food is self-abuse and really, don't we all deserve better than that?

can't get a grip
Your not confused..I knew what I was getting into..and your right, it feels like rebellion/anger on my part regarding the surgery. I am praying. My hope is that God will see me through this and I will get better.

can't get a grip
Thank you for your kind words and caring response..I am really hoping that this gets better for me. Can't get any worse, right? My hiatal hernia still hurts, like phantom memory pain or something.

can't get a grip
Today, again, I made a poor food choice, stopped at Panda Express, bought the fried rice, sweet/sour pork..even though I only ate about 1/2 cup total..and just the sticky sweet coating and some rice, it made me throw up..and my hiatal hernia hurt so bad I cried..this is the second time this happened with Chinese food. My body revolts with disgust but I cannot seem to get a grip on it. I have been so non-compliant since 3 mos out..because I can basically eat what I want, but I have been making bad choices..white bread, butter, jam, you name it..even though I can only eat up to 1/2 cup, my body revolts with stomach cramps..the hernia pain in my back..WTF!! I knew this wouldn't be easy, but come on..I even feel anger that I cannot eat like I used to, because I cannot self-medicate with food anymore...without severe pain, nausea and vomiting. I have tried everything, read the books on emotional eating..tried exercise, shopping, even pain medication..but isn't working..what is wrong with me??? I am looking for a bariatric counselor and yes, my surgeon has a couselor, coach that I have put an SOS email out to..is there anyone else out there that understands what I am going through and who has made it through this and has some good advice? Luckily, I haven't gained any weight..YET..I have even lost 2 lbs this week....but, it can't be healthy for me to do this to myself for very long.

Vsg 2 1/2 years ago
So glad to hear about your success, especially not doing the low carb thing. Really, I know that is not me either..and I know that 40-50 gms of protein is adequate, and drinking 32 oz water is ok too. I take my vits/drink enough eat enough protein to be healthy. I plan to be at goal eventually, the only reason my surgeon wants us to get to goal fast, is because it makes them look good. Well, I am doing this for me not him.

first time barfing...
Friday nite we went out to eat Chinese, I did very well. But, in the middle of the night the left over chow mein was calling my name. Boy, did that screw me over..I ate too much, too fast and it came back up in about 20 minutes. It's nothing like reg barfing, your stomach doesn't contract uncontrollably and push it back up like reg barfing...it comes up slowly through your esophagus and then you puke. It's so messed up...cause now I feel like being a bulimic would be so easy...it's so easy to bring it back up, after indulging.

Love my VSG 15 months after!
It is inspiring, because I am an older woman too, and I am so looking forward to looking that cute in my senior years. Congrats to all of you.

Weight Watchers Issue
You will never be able to eat like before. You can graze, eventually eat solids, but you will never be able to pig out on pizza. I over ate all my favorite food before surgery, because I couldn't control myself. That is why I was morbidly obese. If I could have follow WW, or any diet plan, then I wouldn't have needed WLS. WLS makes it impossible to pig out like before. Just try to eat a whole pizza, or any combo at a fast food place..not possible. Now, if I consume 1000 calories, I feel like I really messed up big time, I never thought that I would be like that, a person who barely eats 1000 calories per day..hahah, LOVE IT!!

I tend to get really hungry in the late afternoon and early evening
What is helping me is eating soup, it is so filling. I use the light soups and add a boca burger, chopped up. You won't be able to finish it. The boca burger is only 80 cals and 14 gms of protein, and the broth is almost nothing in calories.

unusual question
I had the same bright idea..and bought one jar, it tasted terrible!! So, I used my Healthmate blender and pureed my own, much better. I don't see how you guys are going to get in your protein, if you are eating pureed fruits..we were told to eat protein first, then veggies, then fruit. Anyhow, I wish I would have tried Unjury protein power in unflavored and not listed to anybody..because I couldn't tolerate artificial sweetners at all after surgery and had to drink milk until my stomach wasn't too sensitive anymore. The unjury web site has sample you can buy. I mix the unflavored with 32 oz of ice water. I really can't taste it at all, and sometimes I mix in a pkt of EmergenC vit in orange flavor.

Does anyone remember when they were cleared for baths?
Oh, I have to say, that I love taking bubble baths now. Before, I could get in the tub, but just hated looking at my fat body..and my tummy protruding out..now it's a nightly ritual..my relaxing soak in the tub. NSV!

Cereal?
Yes, that will make you want to keep your protein high..the thought of muscle wasting and thinning hair. None of that has happened to me, even 3 mos post-op. One week, I was really non-compliant, and ate more carbs than protein and still lost 2 lbs, but felt crappy..maybe it was 2 lbs of muscle and not fat..either way, you will feel better keeping your carbs low and protein high.
