Sure it was dumping? It doesn't seem there was too much sugar there.
Are you sure you just didn't overdo on portion size? I know it only takes one spoonful too much for me to get very sick feeling.
I stay away from any sugar, so I don't believe I have ever had a dumping issue thus far.
But I have taken one bite too much, but it was horrible, the pain for like an hour to two afterwards.

i had to see a nut and my psychiatrist whom i see on a regular basis wrote a letter indicating i was fine mentally to undergo the procedure. i found the nut to be very helpful. this surgery is a whole new ballgame. its easier in a lot of ways but food is harder. i have restriction that i never achieved with the band. i am still very pleased with everything.

I was banded may 2013. My first year went like textbook. i lost a total of 81 lbs and felt great. But than problems started and july of 2014 my band was emptied and stayed empty for a year. My surgeon didn't want to put any fill in do to the complications i had. We discussed revision and on july 31,2015 i was revised to a gastric bypass. Surgery was difficult due to adhesions and scar tissue. When the band was placed i had gone to surgery to have a bypass but that surgeon couldn't do it do to the scarring. When i was in the recovery room the first words out of my mouth were ,what type of surgery? if he couldnt do the bypass i signed papers for a sleeve. but he was successful. I was so happy. post surgery i have had no complications. Have lost 27 lbs in 26 days. and am doing well with my new way of eating.

Try and keep your self filled with healthy food. The temptation is to convince yourself that is ok to eat something because you haven't had it for a long time and your band is wide open. It is real easy to put back on the weight

terrydumont46 reacted to BigViffer in Doctor Passing Me off to Assistant
My wife has worked around surgeons and doctors for so long that she passed some knowledge down to me. There are certain things that people just firmly believe that are wrong. Many people want the doctor to give their child a shot instead of "just a nurse". But what they don't realize is that the doctor doesn't give shots that often and is really bad at it from lack of practice. Nurses to many a day and therefor are better at it.
Same thing applies to surgeons and their assistants. Many times the assistants have better bedside manners and they are more familiar with complications and questions post-op. Surgeons are good at what they do, which is dealing with people when they are knocked out. The assistants are the ones that are going to be giving you the real information and dispensing it as well. They also can translate what you are saying to what the surgeon needs to know and vice verse.

terrydumont46 reacted to B-52 in Cardiologist Today.....
Had my ANNUAL appointment with my Cardiologist today.....it could not have gone any better. EVERYTHING is just fine.
Usually, ever since my heart attack and surgery, I have undergone yearly stress tests....today he blew it off, said there is absolutely no indication I need one...we'll wait till next spring, maybe.
Five years ago it was a different story, I was a train wreck waiting to happen. But now, all that has been turned around, and I owe it all to WLS !!!
In my case, the lap band.....
Lost all my weight, next to none body fat which also means clean and clear arteries, and can't get enough exercise because I know the more I do the better off I am....and feel.
BTW, my Cardiologist was one who didn't think I needed WLS, it was a waste of time, and all I had to do was diet and exercise...diet and exercise...diet and exercise....I was sick of hearing that. And I had to get him to sign off on it.
NOW he calls me HIS poster patient, a success, uses me as an example to other patients my age, says it can be done, you can get better.......he does not mention the WLS.....

you may still be expelling the gas used to expand your abdominal area. try a heating pad. but your question is definitely one for the doctor if the pain becomes worse.

terrydumont46 got a reaction from hmj2015 in Incision issues?
I have had many abdominal surgeries and not one time did a doctor tell me to put Neosporin on it. as for the pain sometimes a ice pack helps especially with the port incision. I had a band and I was told no hot tub for awhile. nothing was said about swimming but I think the thought about this is that a swimming pool isn't the cleanest bunch of Water around. and if your incisions are still healing you don't want the bacteria to get to them. also for the pain try and not turn to your side while sleeping that has that port incision. that might be what is making it hurt more.

terrydumont46 reacted to LipstickLady in So...a water park happened...
For the first time since my surgery, I took my kids to a Water park.
First and foremost, I was always one of those fatties that forced myself to "keep up" with "normal weight" people so I never visibly showed how hard it was to walk the park and climb the (freaking endless) steps to the tops of the rides. That said, by the end of the day, I used to be so exhausted I didn't want to move the next day.
This time was SO MUCH different. Never once was I out of breath. Never once did I dread squeezing my ass into a tube. I wasn't the fastest down to the bottom and my thighs didn't rub themselves into misery just because I was wet and huffing along with the group. lunch time wasn't an absolute RELIEF like it used to be -- instead, it was just lunch.< /p>
I am fairly certain I looked fine in my swimsuit and I wasn't the slow one in the group. There was one ride where the entire group had to step on a scale to ensure we didn't surpass maximum rate for the tube and I didn't sweat it for a second. In fact, I happily jumped on the scale and didn't think twice about someone seeing my weight.
I am no longer "new" to the WLS experience, but this was a great thing. For real.

OMG are we the same person?? Lol. I was banded in 2010 again in 2013 and revised to bypass 7/31. I am having no issues either and am nervous. I have even eaten eggs already with no problems. I am hoping because I had sooooo many issues with the band reflux sticking always hungry could never eat without vomiting it up..... This just works better for me.

Call your doctor. lapband diet is a lot less restricted than the other wls. you don't have to worry about sutures on the inside healing. after the first week my doctor advanced me to mushy food.but eating small, slowly, and thoroughly. so call you md office

Terrydumont - that sounds awful. So sorry for that experience. I know the pain you are talking about and how scared you were. A slip is no joke and something that should be dealt with ASAP. You may not die, but boy do you think you will. The doctor told me that I could have actually "killed" my stomach with the restricted blood flow. So glad you are doing better. I didn't blame by band either and I don't blame it now, I think this is a case of the doctor not "listening" to the patient and/or the patient not being totally clear as to a situation.

I don't mind. about a month before I found out I had begun suffering from reflux. I told my surgeon and pcp. they increased medications for reflux and I took measures like not eating after a certain time and sleeping upright. on the 4th of july at a party I started to have severe chest pain. I could actually see my heart beat or I thought it was my heart beat right through my shirt. I went home and took my blood pressure and pulse and all was normal. so on the first day after the holiday I went to the surgeon who ordered a barium swallow. in the pictures it showed over 20 esophageal spasms. I didn't even have any pain at that time so I can only imagine what the one that caused pain and was throbbing looked like. so the symptoms are reflux, sliming and pbing all foods, pain and I mean severe pain . they unfilled my band and slowly over 6 weeks my diet changed from liquid to full liquid mushy and than regular. although the band went back into place it was just a small slip my esophagus still showed distention, and elongated and spasms. tried to do fills but the reflux was immediate as were pbing all the foods. hope I answered your question. and I don't blame my band. I blame the pa for not ordering a swallow when after a year I had suddenly got reflux and pbing. this is my message to all concern. be a advocate for yourself and your band. always demand a endoscopy or barium swallow when things start going wrong.

I have a lap band but am revising to bypass. I had to see the nut and she instructed me to make my menu plans with a Protein and a energy. as she called it. like fruit would be the energy. look at the menu plans your nut gave you to see what is listed. if you are only getting in Protein you may feel fatigue.

when my band slipped and I was unfilled I was able to get the band back to correct place. my problem was that my esophagus couldn't handle my pouch. once my pouch even got a little full my esophagus spasmed. my doctor tried to give me little fills but in a 14 cc band I was only able to fill to 5 cc. so no restriction. he refuses to try again. his reason is that my problem will always be present and could cause permanent damage. on Friday I am going in for a bypass. I need to lose enough wt. to get both of my knees replaced so its really important.
