It's that wonderful time of year when there are pumpkins everywhere. I'd like to share my Protein packed crustless pumpkin pie recipe for those who'd like to try it. It's simple and delicious, especially for only 77 calories and 9g of protein!!!
    Crustless Protein Pumpkin Pie

1 - 15 oz can pumpkin (not pie filling)
    ½ cup egg whites
1½ cups Premier Protein vanilla shake
    ¾ cup Splenda
    ½ tsp salt
    2 Tbs pumpkin pie spice

Preheat oven 400°. Beat all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Pour in pie pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes, then turn down to 375° and bake for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. You can also pour into 16 (sprayed with non-stick cooking spray) cupcake tins. I like using silicone inserts.

It is best served cold and can even be frozen. Serving size is 3 minis or 1/6 slice of pie. Sometimes I'll top a slice with Greek yogurt (pic) but Nutrition info is for pie only.

@@her1981 - Well 50 pounds is great. Be thankful, slower means better chance of avoiding loose skin. Are you working out? If so work with the nut to make sure your body isn't in a "fat preservation/starvation" mode. Sometimes a calorie increase actually pumps up weight loss. Track and test it.
As to your friend...they will reap the results of eating crap. They will feel like crap. Ultimately if they lose weight, they will look like crap. Don't compare your weight loss to others. Dangerous thing to do.

terrydumont46 reacted to gowalking in Two Similar Threads
There are two threads currently running that are very similar in that they are touching on subjects of marriage and family support. I am not a therapist, and I only have my own experiences to draw on along with some understanding based on things I've read and heard. But I wanted to comment on these threads because I think it's important. I just don't want to have the OPs feel like they are being picked on or dog piled.
There seems to be a familiar theme that runs through some of these posts and it has to do with being in relationships that are negative rather than positive. My take on this is that women who are not confident and happy with themselves often cannot connect with men who treat them in positive ways. Basically, if you do not feel worthy of love, you will not be with someone who will provide that to you.
It explains the numbers in terms of how many marriages break up after surgery. If a person feels better about themselves, they will not be satisfied with being with a significant other who doesn't treat them well.
Again...the weight is just a physical manifestation of the bad feelings, whatever they be. Now this is not true for everyone and I know I'm generalizing but it seems to hold true more often than not.
I learned a very important lesson when I was married to my second husband. It was that I was better off alone than in a bad marriage. I thought I was lonely when I was single but nothing compares to feeling lonely when your husband is sleeping next to you. That is a horrible feeling and I know what it's like.
I'm not advocating anything here...I'm just making an observation. We are good people who have issues. Our issues show up as excess weight but it could be anything else to excess. The difference is that if you drink too much, or do other things that are destructive, others can't see it as easily as they can see a fat person. Our issues happen to show up on the outside very easily but we are no different than anyone else who is struggling with self image, self worth, negativity, and what ever else makes us who we are.
Please know that I am not judging, nor am I suggesting anything. I just wanted to say that I feel for anyone who is struggling because we all are struggling in one way or another. My life has turned around 180 degrees since I lost the weight but I also struggle on a regular basis to eat mindfully and to not sabotage all my hard work. I see a therapist because I understood that I had to work on my head along with my body. It's only through that weekly slog through my psyche that I am able to now have a healthy relationship with a man, and to not make some of the same mistakes I've made in the past. If I've learned anything at all, I've learned that I haven't mastered any of this yet...and likely will not ever be able to take any of this for granted.
Wishing all of you well. 'Rant' over.

I haven't had one episode with the gastric bypass. I like the gastric bypass it really keeps you in check. no way am I going to be able to eat around it like ppl do with sleeve and lapband. my hospital and doctor won't do lapband anymore.

having a bad back I was up and out of bed after surgery do to discomfort. a nurse came in and told me I needed to sit at the edge of the bed. np I said and as I was getting the bed in position she was holding her arms and hands in a cradle position to help me. when I told her I had already been out of bed a few dozen times she was horrified. made me giggle.

This is a totally bizarre idea, but hey, it's worth a shot. You say even though you have healthy food available to you, absolutely nothing appeals to you. Even if its a ready to go food, its just plain unappealing, right ? What would happen if you had someone to "trade " food with 2 or 3x a week ? Do you know a nearby fellow WLS person who might be willing to cook and share a bit , and you do the same ? Maybe having a surprise meal fixed for you might restart the appetite ? Kinda like those neighborhood "cooking clubs" where they all trade and fix a certain amouht of dinners. Just a thought.............

I did wake up once during surgery. it isn't at all pleasant to say the least and I still haave nightmares of the expierence. that said I now let the anthesialogist know that I did wake up and they make sure I stay asleep. so have the talk with your doctor and the anthesialogist and waking up during the procedure won't be a problem. I promise.
I am so worried that I will wake up during the procedure. recently had a colonoscopy- I asked them I will be put out right? they were snappy saying YEs!! we have to get you situated first..lay onyour side etc..well they started and nothing I didnt feel any of the meds..the anesthesiologist nurse kept pushing the meds (verced?) bad spelling.. into my iv. and nothing.nothing.I screamed and cried. they cut out a polyp and took tissue samples..I felt it all. some people think I am crazy but I felt it. it hurt so bad. I have a history of colon cancer and had a big tumor in my rectum that has staples in.. so already issues down there. after it was over ( I never was out at all) the nurse came in and said she gave me 700 units of verced and they usually only give 500 units. and that should have knocked me out. well it didnt (dont you have an alternative pain management plan in place??) then the doctor who kept telling me to be quiet came in and said you dont do well with Verced..umm ya think?? and she told me next time I have a procedure to ask for fentenal? she said just ask for the drugs that killed michael jackson?? umm wow I have to associate me having a procedure with dying?? when I got off the gurny/bed there was blood all over the sheet. needless to say I will now be making sure before I go in to get a guarantee I wont wake up. that was a nightmare. so I guess I am worried I will wake up ..or nothave pain meds that I need. Just gotta have faith.l have had lots of good experiences.this happened a month ago..so it is still fresh.. ughh
    thanks

Go with your gut on this and find a different center of excellence that will focus on you, not the number of sleeve surgeries they can get in.
You will be so much happier with your decision. I am with you regarding this psych. What a jerk! I would definately not trust him.
Good luck to you and please keep us posted. This is a big decision and you need to be 100 percent comfortable with your team.

Awww Hugs! We all make choices in our lives that we wish we could go back and change, however we all know we can't change the past, but we CAN change our futures! We can make the right choices if we choose to. This decision is life changing and it is very emotionally draining, questioning ourselves at every turn. It is scary when we see changes coming. We are a creature of habit and we feel comfortable when things stay the same. Sometimes we need to jump out of our comfort zone and take a leap of faith. This surgery is my leap. I don't know what is on the other side, but I hope it is for the better, it has to be, and I will try my best to make it that way. I wonder all the time, if I should back out, but I forsee a shorter life span with my loved ones with Diabetes and heart disease in the future if I don't. Consider a therapist if you are still feeling unsure of your decision. Hugs

I too am not a exerciser. my doctor who is aware that I have many ortho problems told me it wasn't necessary to lose the wt. but he would like me to be active during the day. so I walk my 2 acres sometimes a couple of times even 4 times once when I had a stuck issue. lol and I do housework, cooking, gardening just about anything to keep on my feet and be active. I just dusted off my treadmill and have been just doing a quarter of a mile a couple times a day. anymore and my knees are grinding. as soon as I get to below 200 lbs I will be having a knee replacement on one side and the other a bit later. I hope this helps in my walking therapy.

if you suddenly got the acid reflux you need to have a barium swallow to make sure your band is in place. if it is, than the treatment is drugs, not eating or drinking right before bed. my doctor had it 4 hours before bedtime and to sleep with a incline. but call your doctor, reflux can be affecting your esophagus.

Find a bariatric center near you. Attend the information seminar and ask questions. Ask a LOT. Weigh the pro's and cons against your current health and your lifestyle. Higher starting weights take a bit more commitment to lose, but it can be done. I chose the sleeve because I didn't like the idea of rerouting my organs and I didn't think I would do well with permanent malabsorption. However I had already changed my eating habits and was exercising regularly when I had WLS.
There is no right or wrong answer. Even though it is still not popular for some people even the lapband is a good fit. Most people here will be biased with the type of surgery they choose. You really need to do your homework and find out what's best for you.

Likely you will need to go the an RNY gastric bypass but it really does depend on your current health situation.
Most centers of excellence are getting further and further away from the lapband. There are more complications that require a revision to bypass with that surgery.
If you suffer from reflux at all, bypass is the way to go. It is the gold standard for weight loss surgery and is know for achieving more weight loss overall.
If you don't suffer from reflux/Gerd then the sleeve might be the right solution for you however I would definitely ask questions about how much weight you would likely lose with the sleeve.
I would suggest taking a class (they are free) at your local bariatric center of excellence.
    Best of luck to you!
