ibsoldout got a reaction from PuraVida37 in Any other September 2013 bandsters?
I'm excited. I have been at a plateau for almost a year. I am 25 pounds from goals. He finally gave me another fill today. I hope it makes me feel tight not too tight but I do love the feeling of being tight so I know I won't over eat. I have absolutely no will power up but if I'm feeling sick I will stop eating. I depend on my band a lot. I absolutely love my band. It was worth every dime to me. If I could do it all over I would and get the band again.

As you stated you are doing this for you and not for anyone else , even though you loved him , life will go on you have lost lbs and look at it this way what ever he weighed you lost that amount also lol so keep on your track and let him go to his own lane as there will be someone else trying to merge into yours so keep on your journey , it is a a winding road into a straight path to being healthy.

I went to my PCM the other day for a check up. She still has the old dinosaur weight scale. I had always wanted to not have to move that huge bottom weight past the 100 mark. I thought by the time I lost that much, those scales would be long gone! But none the less......it happened! 149.25 lbs. I did not have to move that bottom weight!!!!!!

I'm agreeing with lellow. We have had our bands for over five years and our weight loss goals have been met. We all have been where you are and know what will/can happen if doctor's orders are not followed. I did the exact same thing, but I was two yrs post-op. I went out for dinner later that evening of my fill and had an enchilada, later that night my tummy was cramping. I had to return to my doctor's office the very next morning. He took out my fill to let my stomach rest and told me if I did this again he would be referring me to another physician. He then gave me a 20 min lecturer about following his orders. To this day I never did that again. This site is great for advice and sometimes to vent, without any drama. I wish you best success on your journey.

Ok, I have to admit I have gotten the 'tone' sometimes that you all accuse hazel of. While for you, this is your first time, for some of us who have been around a long time, seeing the VERY similar posts of 'I was told not to eat by medical team but I did anyway, will I be okay?' starts to get very frustrating. And no you don't have to be 'going through something in your life' to get tired of the frequent non-compliance you see from new bandsters EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Make no mistake, just because you can today doesn't mean you will be able to for the next fill. If you fool yourself into thinking you know better than the medical instructions you get, you run the risk of getting stuck while your stoma is swollen, cause more swelling, cause vomiting, dehydration, a possible slip, possible erosion. It's amazing to me that people don't take this more seriously. If you broke your arm, would you question whether you would need to wear a cast? No, of course not. No difference here.
I think the worst thing that happens on this board are people thinking that support means other people telling you that what you're doing is fine, and you'll be ok. I've been around long enough, seen WAY too many complications as a result of non-compliance to know it's not true. So I won't say it. And if the tone comes out wrongly, it's only because I've said it so many times to so many people, who just don't bother to listen because I'm not saying what they want to hear.
Which is why so many veterans, with amazing knowledge and amazing experience and with so much to share, don't post any more.

I feel you there on the hard part. I have been on two weeks pure liquids NO food AT ALL unless you call Jello food. I have tried every protein(healthy non sugary) drink. Most are nasty UGH. But Atkins are about the most filling and taste pretty decent. Have one more pure week of liquids to go. Have my surgery on Sept 9.

Yeah, it sucks. No way around that!
Thankfully it's only a short period of time, in the grand scheme of things. You can do it!
The best advice I can offer (at one looong week in myself) is to be kind to yourself in every other way you can. Buy your very favorite sugar-free drinks. Get some of your favorite body wash, watch all of your guilty pleasure TV shows, even if they involve beauty pageants or Kardashians, and maybe treat yourself to manicure or facial if possible. Look for any non-food ways to make yourself happy and use them all!
    Good luck!

I had my revision on 8/29/13 and so far I'm allowed pureed but have been mainly drinking my Protein Drinks, Water, milk, and coffee. I've had grits twice as well as a bit of thinned Noosa Yoghurt which is divine. I'm getting very sick of the sweet so I've also had some Spicy V8. I'm not really all that hungry yet which is a good thing and I've been sticking to my 2-3 oz limits on non liquids. I think by the end of puree which for me is 2 weeks we can then go up to 3-4 oz on mechanical soft. I have always found it funny how much each surgeon and program differ in their pre-op requirements and post-op plans and it always drives me batty because I don't want to be the one doing too much or too little. I'm basically letting my body give me cues and trying to push the head hunger from boredom and smelling what my family is eating to the back of my mind...although some scrambled eggs smelled so good yesterday I just about cried.

I've tried several brands of e-cigs. My favorite was the Pure brand, although, I did also like the Njoy disposables. What seems to work best is a combination of Patches and lozenges. I really screwed up for two days. Yesterday, my entire diet consisted of potato chips. I think it must be time for my period. No excuses, though. Back to it today...

Hi I am also tricare prime. I am 44 and have a bmi of 36'. It went very quick. I saw my pcp in May he put paper work in for a surgeon. Had my appointment June 26. He waited 3 weeks before he submitted his paper work. It came back approved in 3 days. Then I had to eight for the nutritionist and psych evail. Finished them on August 12 had my date by the 16th. I live near fort hood so the nutritionist there spotted it up by doing one on one. Push the fact you need for medical reasons. It made them move faster as opposed to I just want to lose the weight. I am diabetic out of control sugar, high blood pressure and had a stroke. Praying for you... good luck!

Hi everyone! 1st I just want to thank everyone on here, you guys have been such an great encouragement ! I stumble across this website by accident while searching for information on wls. This site has really pushed me to making the first step in my new journey that I'm looking forward to! I contacted my insurance company(united healthcare) back in June about wls but never followed up. Got busy with work and school, I started weight watchers back in June and I'm trying but I really need a lil more help(lap band). My manager lost over 50lb with them and every day is track track track with her. We write the point values on everything thru out the branch lol. She has been such a great inspiration to be myself together and lose. Now I'm so ready for this journey and know that's its gonna be a be challenge... Reading people's posts on here and I so identify with them and realize that I'm an emotional eater, I'm a cancer and we are very emotional people and have struggle with weight problems all my life so food is a comforter.
So I called my insurance company again last week and had to re enroll in the program again (hopefully I don't have to start the whole six month diet thing again and they say the last few months don't count ) I'm hoping to have surgery by the end of the year. So I got my first appointment next week Sept 5th at the center of excellence in Ny Presbyterian hospital( my employer will put $1,000 in my MRA account if I go there) !!!! Hopefully everything will fall in place and go smoothly. I do have some kind of mass in front of my heart(the found it last dec and don't know what it is, and I had a PE (clots in the lungs) and I'm on lovenox but stopped a few months ago and cuz my hair was falling out and the bruising but just started back again a few weeks ago and bruises r back so the dr told me to stop again n get more tests done to see if I still need it and the right doses.) so some of that might be a Lil 'hiccup' in my journey but *fingers crossed* it won't be Reading the post and people's experiences on here have me starting to prepare for the changes I need to make and more aware of the habits I have.

Reading threads also. I had to see nutritionist and psych and that's it. We have Humana military. Also I finished all appts on the 12 and got my day on the 16 of Aug. So sad that some have to go thru shoo much for this.
Started my Protein diet yesterday for surgery on the 9th. Very nervous and excited. Though I need to loose weight (bmi is 36) I mostly s dBm doing this to"cure" diabetes and high bp. The diet was bad yesterday but better today. Lots of broth and fluids is the key, ie Crystal lite. Hugs to all my Sept bandster buds.

ibsoldout reacted to ChristyC in Do you think it is harder for a diabetic to lose weight?
Everything is harder for diabetics! I have been a type 2 for 16 yrs and am on a Humolog shot with each meal and Lantus at night. I take oral meds 2x daily also. I am on a preop diet and getting banded on this Tues. My BMI is 50 and I am 58 yrs old...a lot to loss and everything to gain. If you can find a great diabetic doctor or RN to work with as prescribed by your doctor, like I have...you can wean down off the insulin and oral meds and thus make it much easier to lose the weight. It can only be done with strict diet control.
I am on only the oral meds now and the Lantus...off the Humalog WHICH IS ONLY MY STORY, I AM NOT SAYING TO DO THAT YOURSELF. But, it takes lots of checking blood sugars and watching Proteins and carbs. It is not impossible if you are type 2. It is a horrid disease, and it really wears out the old pancreas fast. At least we can aim to decrease our meds and lose!
Good luck and don't give up...find the right diabetic provider to work with.
