Dbackfan got a reaction from Mikee57 in 5 Days post lapband surgery. Can not sleep. Is anyone e'se up?
It takes over a week to begin to feel normal. A slow process that needs your hard work and input constantly to make it succeed. You got this. You know you do. I'm living proof that this was the best decision I've ever made. I don't regret one day. But remember: garbage in, garbage out. You'll get what you give, so give it all you have and this process will give it back ten-fold. I promise.

Believe me when I tell you that the pain and discomfort passes. Patience, walking and keeping ahead of it all with the meds. They may not seem to be working right now, but if you keep on top of it, it will kick in. Life without them right now would be much worse!

Dbackfan reacted to deleteme in Bastard! {WARNING: may contain content not suitable for newbies and those with a clean mouth)
I met a sneaky little bastard today. His name: chocolate cupcake. I've had a crappy, crappy week work wise in addition to the one month mark of losing my bestie, so I decided I deserved to let myself indulge on the cupcake that was nicely placed on my desk as I loaded my students on the SpEd bus.
Two bites in and what happens? That little bastard, devil of a chocolate cupcake gets stuck! And I mean STUCK! I've had minor "stuckage" (i think i just invented a new word) in the past that passes quickly with little discomfort. Not today. That bastard cupcake caused some hellacious pain in my chest and for the first time ever, my mouth started salivating to try and get that a*****e cupcake down. I just knew that the lapband gods were trying to teach me a lesson. I stared down that a*****e half cupcake that sat on my table taunting me as walked frantically around my room trying make his bastard half cupcake portion pass. If that bastard cupcake had human qualities he would have been shaking in his boots knowing how much I hated him at that moment. I walked over to that cupcake, picked that bastard up in his stupid little napkin, and smashed him to pieces. He was then emphatically thrown in the can never to see my teeth again.
So what is my point? Sneaky, little bastard, a*****e chocolate cupcakes are the devil and not my friend. I hate them. I hope they burn in hell. Forever.
Thank you. You may now rejoin your regularly scheduled reading. AND be on the lookout for those sneaky little bastard a*****e chocolate cupcakes....and you should also watch out for their siblings too, like vanilla, strawberry, etc.

I've noticed I'm satisfied for at least 4 hours between meals and once I get a hunger twinge it's time for the next meal. It's so cool listening to my body! I haven't had a fill yet, and at this rate if I'm losing consistently and staying satisfied I may not get one. I'm under 1,000 calories a day, between 60-80 grams of Protein, and at lest 8 glasses of Water sometimes more. I'm so happy I did this! By the way, today is my ONE MONTH surgiversary!

Dbackfan reacted to Adrienne21 in Cant we all just get along ?!
I came to this site because I thought that this would be a wonderful place where I would be surrounded by a group of my own peers. I have posted many questions that I had questions about or had minimal knowledge on. I have received very good advice and some advice I thought sounded nice, I followed up with my doctor on. I mean it is awesome to get advice from others, but who knows what best for you besides the person who placed this remarkable tool inside of us??
We have all been forewarned about the dangers of not following the rules that was given to us. If you have orders from your doctor by all means FOLLOW THEM. Don’t take matters into your own hands and when something bad happens, you freak out.
Everyone has an OPIOION!! Do you have to agree? NOT AT ALL. Most people who do cheat their bands/themselves often look for confirmation from another person who will come out of nowhere and agree with them. I feel personally some question should not be asked on this site; especially ones that promote controversy in a bad way.
Example, I was just banded and I am hungry. So I ate some lunch meat.< /p>
You were advised against it but insisted on doing your own thing. How can you expect not to receive feedback with someone trying to make you accountable for your mistake? Not everyone is going to say something nice to glorify your wrong-doing. Before you judge a statement try to understand it for the other persons prospective. Let’s just go back to being helpful by sharing experiences that are helpful to one another. I am almost 90% sure no one on here is purposely being malicious but simply helpful.
Always remember, When you are typing it’s hard to tell someone’s tone. So when in doubt, just say thank you for your input and move one.
(I had to vent and I wanted to share with everyone. I don’t like seeing my friends being verbally attacked for stating an opinion. Sometimes you just have to learn how to AGREE TO DISAGREE. An opinion is like an Ass, Everyone has one and you are not always going to like sh*t it comes with. ) Have a nice night.

Thanks, Mary! I'm managing to keep steady on the weight situation so far. Like you I'm making good food choices, but still anxious to get more fills to curb the hunger. But encouraged that I'm not alone! Keep me posted on your progress and I'll do the same. Together we'll look like movie stars!

When I went in for my first fill they said I had 5cc's in there already. They added another 1.5 and I felt the restriction right away. It was very cool and I was excited, but now about a week later I don't notice the restriction as much and wish I could go in sooner for my second fill. I'm getting hungry too soon and can't reach that satisfied-but-not-full feeling anymore.

I had my 2nd fill last Friday 8/30 and I've already lost three lbs. I'm so happy that FINALLY I've started to see things changing. I was weighing myself everyday (because the scale wasn't moving much) but now I'll wait till my 3rd fill in 14 days!!!
    YEYYYYY ME!!!!

Not sure of the calorie content but I usually go for gin and tonic or just a dirty martini. Not a lot of mixer in either and you can sip on them for a while to make them last. I know for me, post banded, there isn't as much to soak up the alcohol so you become a bit more of a lightweight than in the past.

I had that same pain with my lap band surgery. What they gave you for pain amounts to regular aspirin! That won't cut it. They should have given you a narcotic for the first few days! I'd get on the phone and have them call in something much stronger!! The gas pain can be remedied with either gas x, a heating pad or best yet, lots of walking around. It really will help. For the non gas pain, call them or hit an emergency room for a quick dose until your doctor can get something stronger called in to the pharmacy. They gave me lots of liquid Vicodin. It saved my sorry butt! You'll thank me later. Please keep me posted. Now I'm worried and hurting for you! Poor thing.....

Dbackfan got a reaction from Emma1981 in Today was my day!
I started the day getting prepped at 6 am and before I knew it I was being wheeled to the car heading home by 8:15 am!! Felt great, wide awake and very happy I made this leap. Pre-surgery jitters? Dozens. Thoughts of backing out? Hundreds! I was lost, confused and full of self-doubt. And let's just say it....I was scared. Complications, death, you name it. What saved my soon-to-be-small butt was reading everyone else's story explaining their surgery from start to finish. It helped me get past the unknown surprises and showed me what to expect. The minute they rolled me in, I was all thumbs up. Anxious, sure. But ready to start my journey!
My wife and two teenage boys (my frogs as I call them) have done a great job making me as comfortable as is possible given the fact that I've just been drugged, stabbed 4 times, prodded, poked, lassoed and stitched in under 2.5 hrs.
But you know what? Aside from the pain tonight, some moderate, some a bit more, it really wasn't bad at all. Would I do it again? Without question. Tonight will be a rough nights sleep, no doubt. But the rewards will far out weigh these little discomforts.
I hope this helped someone? Maybe not. Either way, I'm more than willing to share the specifics of my whole day from the surgery center to my pillow laden bed for recovery. Message me if ever you have a question, fear or panic attack. There are some really good mentors on here and I will NEVER pretend to be as wise as they are. But I am here, for what it's worth.
Congrats to all of us for at least doing something to control our own destiny of sorts. I'm proud of you all!!
