BillieG got a reaction from catfish87 in Banders Exercise
I looooove bicycling! I used to go on this trail by the river every single day. However, my knee started hurting so bad like I couldn't do it anymore and that is when I found out I have osteoarthritis. I just got banded on the 9th and I am hoping once I lose a little weight I will be able to bike again with less pain to the knee.
Feels so good to feel that wind on ya, music in your ears... so peaceful and a great workout! Boy I miss it. By spring I am going to try it again.

BillieG got a reaction from JOANNE M HOLL in 2 week mark
Thank u for that. Everyone has these expectations that u should drop right away. The dr dis tell me right after surgery ur stomach is swollen, masking hunger. As u heal and swelling goes down u get hungry again. But yes i have no restriction until i get a fill so im trying not to expect too much

Im at 2 weeks today i start the puree phase. I still get real "achy" if i walk a lot, like at grocery store...? Also, only went doen 1/2 lb this week. I know this healing process is tough. I have follow up with dr today so im taking a list of questions regarding pain, calories, etc. staying positive and excited!!!

BillieG got a reaction from DJFA08 in I'm hungry
Yea its hard to get all the Protein in those first few weeks, you probably need to drink Protein shakes. I use chocolate or vanilla whey Protein supplement it gives you like 30g protein. Plus I put it in skim milk. That will help with your hunger. Also, recommended that you drink tons of Water to fill you up too. I find that most of the time my hunger is out of habit, like I SHOULD be hungry or eating. As the doc says, ya gotta think like a skinny person!
Good luck!

BillieG reacted to cutlass6521 in This can't be true...
Okay, I know what everyone is going to say...throw the scale away. (my husband hid my 2 scales this morning )
I went for my first fill and checkup with the nurse yesterday. I haven't lost any weight in the past 3 weeks. Actually it went up 4 lbs then back down, then up a pound today. What is going on with me?? I go for a 30 minute walk each day as well.
The nurse tells me that I am not eating enough to lose weight? Could this be true? I am getting in 60g of Protein a day, low carbs and eating around 1000 calories. She tells me I need to eat a protein snack or two during the day to get to 1200 calories and then the weight will start to drop.
Is this true????
anyone else experiencing this????
thanks,
confused

BillieG got a reaction from kramsay1980 in Signs that you're full. How does your body tell you it's enough?
That is a good question I would like to know as well, being newly banded. The book states that you will feel pressure under your rib cage and once you feel like you are a comfortable "full" do not eat any more.
My first week I was so bloated I had a hard time getting all my liquids down. I think it was the gas as well, but I guess we will get used to it and learn that full feeling in time. I do know that most bandsters say if you can eat more than a small saucer of food then you may need a fill in your band because you should not be able to eat much more than that at one time.

BillieG got a reaction from Successful4me in Had a false image of what the band is supposed to do
Yes i really appreciate that i had to go thru 6 months of check ups and education to learn as much as i can prior to being banded and i STILL dnt know everything. Ive read it is important to go slow and chew well. That shuld usually take care of the problem if not i guess u have to look at what u r eating and maybe ur stomach cant handls it

BillieG got a reaction from 2muchfun in Signs that you're full. How does your body tell you it's enough?
I have been keeping a notebook to record everything i eat and drink. This is the only way i keep track of calories, Protein, and Fluid ounces. I think after doing this for a period of time i will get used to what i am supposed to have.

BillieG got a reaction from shanatx in Stalling out post-op
Yes I would talk to the nutritionist... it seems quite depressing to hear that you guys are stuck at a certain weight for such a long period of time with the band!? I realize that this process will not necessarily happen over night and it takes hard work and effort for the band to work properly. But I cannot imagine that if you are following the diet/calorie intake and working out that much and seeing no result in years? There must be something missing here...

I was the same way. I am on week 2, full liquids and just stopped feeling so full and bloated. I think most of that was gas from surgery. I was fine in the beginning but the past few days i been feeling the hunger. I think its bcuz we r healing but lack the fills so we dont have the feeling of restriction. I try to continue drinking to keep myself full.

BillieG got a reaction from MzEboni912 in January's 2014 Bandsters Welcome!
Hello! I had my surgery on the 9th this is my first day on full liquids!
After surgery I was sore and had trouble laying on my sides or getting in and out of bed... that only lasted about 3 days. I can do those things fine now without help but it is still a little sore when I transfer from time to time. I take my pain medicine (Roxicette) every 6-8 hours. I am able to take it every 4 but I am trying to cut back and stop taking it. When I go so long, I get a burning sensation in my incisions and pressure in my upper abdomen. This is no where near as bad as I thought it would be - I will say that. But there is some discomfort. My biggest complaint is the gas in my belly. I feel like I have diarrhea but not much is happening. I figure as I incorporate food - it will get better. I may call and ask if I can take something to help with this. I have been walking around the house, on day 6 I went to the store with hubby to get supplies for week 2 and I thought I would die. Definitely too much walking and I was very sore. Week one I had no sugar added popsicles, beef broth (chicken was a lil bland), sugar free Jello, apple juice (not diluted bcuz I am hypoglycemic), and flavored Decaf tea. I lost 12.2 lbs! (wow)
This is the first day of my full liquids and so far I had 1/2 c cream of wheat with tsp light brown sugar (it was gross plain), 8 oz apple juice, now i'm drinking my 8 oz choc Protein Powder with skim milk. So far so good. I am not starving or suffering uncontrollably. I agree with the other lady, all you think about is what is going to go in your mouth and how much and what time is it bla bla bla. I am very excited about this journey and to see how I do once I start incorporating solid foods. I think that is where the real challenge will come in.
Good luck everyone!
