Second thoughts...
I told everyone about me having lap-band surgery. I did not have any bad remarks, to my face anyway. But now everyone has expectations of me dropping weight real fast like tomorrow. Now I am going to have to explain how the lap-band works I guess that could be a good thing it could mean more people are getting informed, but it also is going to be a pain in the butt. Now I'm wishing I would have waited to tell people till they started asking then they would not be sitting around waiting for results. Results that probably won't be to their expectations. Just something I did not consider when I started telling everyone. So just thought I'd share in case anybody is on the fence about their decision to tell or not to tell. ~~~Stephanie

Did anyone NOT have to do the preop diet?
I had to do one, but I do know people who's bmi was like 55 or so an did not have to do one. So I don't know the rhyme or reason, except that it is done to shrink the liver, and it seems the heavier you are the more that would be needed. But it must depend on the Dr. too. ~~~Stephanie

Hair loss?
That does seem to be a problem with fast weight loss. You'll probably hear from a number of people. My Dr. suggested making sure you take a good Multivitamin, eating at least 75 grams of Protein a day, and using Nioxin shampoo. ~~~Stephanie

Can't find....
Hey has anyone been able to find sugar-free yogurt? The only ones I found our just Fat-free. And while were on the subject what about frozen fruit bars without added sugar, couldn't find any at Wal-Mart? Do they exist? I did find sugar free Italian Ice and sugar-free Popsicle. But that's not what I wanted. I thought there would be some fruit bars with Splenda or something. Thanks ~~~Stephanie

List of post-op needs
You'll want to put the pillow in front of your stomach and hold it there with your arm or hand. It is for when you go over a bump or sharp turns. You can also use it when you get up and down when sitting. It helps support your stomach so your muscles don't have to. Trust me you'll want it with you on the ride home:) Does that help? ~~~Stephanie

mis73?
I do believe her real name is Missy it is written above her ticker I do believe. I don't think her Doc would tell us anything, although he may be able to pass along a message, but I don't think he can even acknowledge her as being a patient though. I'm concerned about not hearing from her. Seems like our hands are tied, unless someone knows her personally. Say prayers ~~~Stephanie

Band vs Sleeve
My reasons were the same as stated from everyone above. The only thing I would add is that I figured if the time came that I needed to have it removed because of complications, I am thinking the options might be better because they will have more information or maybe better options by that time. Good luck with your decision. ~~~Stephanie

Stomach discomfort

Stomach discomfort
Did you have surgery? If so when? Did you recently have a fill? Your profile said undecided on surgery. Sorry can't help you with an answer. Maybe with some more information it would be easier to give some help. ~~~Stephanie

Should I
I'm sorry your struggling with your decision. Me personally, I could always lose the weight or lose some of the weight, and I would always put it back on. The reason I decided to go through with this is 1 I have 125 pounds to lose and 2 is because it is successful at helping you keep it off. I was tired of doing the same thing and getting the same results, so I had to try something different. As far as having it removed I know that insurance will only pay to have it removed if there is a medical necessity. If you pay out of pocket you may be able to have it removed but it is not recommended. ~~~Stephanie

Banded Tuesday, May 28th. Starting to feel more pain today
It could be. I was banded Tuesday also, the only pain is at the port site and for some reason the gas is worse today and it is painful. The gas makes my chest hurt, and I'm in a lot of pain form that. Don't know if that helped you at all. Good luck with your recovery. ~~~Stephanie

Barictric Advantage.com has Bariatic Advantage meal replacement shakes, they are good no after taste. And than they sell nectar which has juice flavors and they are really good. ~~~Stephanie

Breakfast ideas ...
Yogurt and granola. love it. Can't have it right now though, I'm only on liquids. If you let it sit the granola will soften up some, if you need that. ~~~Stephanie

pre op diet
It depends on your Dr., they usually want you on a Protein shake or drink. One is clear one is milky. The best thing to do is talk to your Dr. They did not give you a list on what you could have? Sorry I could not be more help. I was on a high protein clear liquid diet and was able to have 3 to 4 protein shakes(the milky ones)a day along with Clear liquids. ~~~Stephanie

Practice makes perfect?
I also started to change eating habits before my surgery, and one of the hardest was eating slow and chewing thoroughly. I think it was harder then because I was busy and I wasn't banded so I knew down inside I did not have to, nothing bad would happen. But now that I'm banded I know that is now not the case. I'm still only on liquids till a week from Tuesday and then I'll be on mushies, that will be the test. I know I have had to drink slower and that's not been to hard because once you do it wrong you won't do it again, at least not for me. So if I eat too fast now I know there will be a price to pay and it will only take one mistake to correct the problem. ~~~Stephanie

Erectile Dysfuntion issues since bandins
You could look up information on the Vagus nerve. I know it starts in the brain and then separates into all different parts of the body one of those parts being the stomach. They say pressure is put on it by the band and effects the appetite and other things. You might want to do some research and see if it effects the erectile function. Just a thought. `~~Stephanie

Any bandings in May????
How do you add a picture like you did? I was going to post my incisions. I have the picture on my phone,I think I can transfer it to the computer. ~~~Stephanie

I Stumbled.......
Are you 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery? If so, I'll only be on mushies by then. I'm sorry you feel off the wagon but I'm also jealous you get to eat real food, I have to wait till the 5th week for that. Good luck jumping back on the band wagon. ~~~Stephanie

chest burning
I was banded on the 28th. I also had a hiatal hernia repair. I've had some discomfort in my chest I think it is either from the repair or gas. It might be the same for you. If it is severe pain you should call your Dr. ~~~Stephanie
