brianb reacted to B-52 in Which Exercise To Avoid?
The port is attached to the abdominal muscles, on top, under the fat...the more fat you loose, the more visible the port becomes....I now have zero belly fat..you can see every nook and cranny of my port, and can even trace the tubing under the skin till it goes deep....I can grab my port between my index finger and thumb and move it around a little.....if it were to ever flip, I could probably flip it back myself....but it is still attached and the skin also holds it tight so I don't see that happening....
Also, as my abs got tighter and harder, there was pinching and tearing pains which my Dr. told me is was normal...for me...even congratulated me that I was getting those pains...which have stopped a long time ago...
I do all kinds of ab exercises....one I'm doing now is I am horizontal to the floor on this apparatus, only supported only from my lower waist down....holding a 35lb weight behind my head I flex down till my head just touches the floor, then extend up and arch as high as I can go...3 sets of 24.....
I do other types also, never afraid of complications to my port.....it seems to me, that peo[ple who have issues with ports flipping, are those with a great deal of belly fat...but that's my own observation....

brianb got a reaction from 2muchfun in HELP - the more I exercise, the more weight I gain...
Post is getting a little old, but have to say this has been my experience. B-52 nailed it.
All the tearing of muscle creates inflammation which, I believe, is mostly Water retention.
My weight always jumps for a few days after starting a workout. I jumped 3 pounds almost overnight this last time. This initial weight gain though falls off within a week then I usually see a huge weight drop.

brianb reacted to B-52 in HELP - the more I exercise, the more weight I gain...
Initially, when you start strenuous exercising, you get muscle pains, which in fact is millions of micro tears in your muscles, etc....which is in effect a injury, very widespread...When you have an injury you have inflammation - swelling...where you have inflammation you have Water retention....= weight
Thats the quick short term explanation....after that other factors come into play....but your goal is to always burn fat!
As hunter gatherers we store energy/food away as fat for periods of famine, when there is no food to gather...that's how we are designed before there were A&P's and Shop-Rites...........WLS, exercising and burning fat means it's Famine Time!
The whole point behind losing weight is to burn more calories per day than you consume per day....exercising speeds up the process.

Took me 3 fills in 4 months from surgery...then another 2 months to get it in the "Groove" so to speak....
I have not had a fill since, that was 2 years ago....still in the Green Zone....Not hungry, Portion Control, cannot over eat...

brianb got a reaction from dazzlingone in weight stand still
Finally hit restriction at 6 CC here. And boy it was obvious.
It started at the doctors office. I walked out feeling like I could barely swallow my own saliva. I walked to the parking lot and stood by the car for several minutes to make sure I didn't need to go back in and have some taken out. After about 10 minutes, I felt okay and could swallow saliva without trouble.
Like you, I could eat 3 pieces of pizza no problem prior to the last fill. Actually, I could eat an entire pizza no problem and possibly go looking for oreos in an hour. Now one piece takes a while to eat and I feel very satisfied. There is no comparison.
I also immediately started dropping weight. First time since the surgery. First 4 days it was a pound a day. Now that the Water weight is gone, it's slowing down, but still dropping. I'm eating about 1/3 or less than my normal diet.
My opinion is that you still haven't hit the green zone.

Well I guess that depends on a few things. How old is your husband? Has he always been this way? Perhaps he suffers from low testosterone or just has a low sex drive. It's rare for young men, but possible. Does her work a physically or mentally demanding job. I speak from experience when I say that sex drive can fluctuate based on work stress. My previous job was so stressful I never initiated sex...I was too tense and worried. Now that I have my current job and been here almost 10 years...I have a very high sex drive and its getting even higher as I lose weight. IS your husband overweight? That can also be a factor. I know its hard not to take it personally, but before you do I would look into these factors. I'm sure there are other things I'm not thinking of, but hopefully some one else can chime in. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'll be glad to help out.

Thinking this is a no brainer. Time to find a new doctor.
5.9 CC isn't bad, but it seems like most are over 6 before they hit the green zone and stay there.
Definitely worth getting a second opinion.
Really sounds like the doctor doesn't know what he is doing and is a jerk to boot. Ugh.

As everyone else has said, I chose this because it was reversible and there are much longer studies out for the band than there is for the sleeve
I don't like the idea of rny because reroutimg My Intestines is just plain terrifying
Want proof that the band is good? Just google search all the people who have gotten banded over their gastric bypass

I guess I am beating "this horse" because I'm trying to make the best decision for me. I'm sure everyone here went through a similar process at some point. Having not known anyone who has has WLS, I thought I'd post an open question here.

    Lower death rate.
    Lower major complication rate.
    Reversible.
Sure, the weight loss is slower, but I have been fat a long time, IMHO I can be fat a little while longer and not mutilate my stomach or re-route my intestines.

Tomorrow I go in for my 6th fill, my last fill was hell and they hurt me trying to find the port. My concern is, I have not had an X-ray done since the day of my surgery 5 months ago. Should I demand a Fluro tomorrow during my appointment???

My suggestion would be yes...definately. Not sure demand is the word I'd use, but talk with your surgeon and find out why he/she hasn't suggested it yet? Possibly just a $$$ issue? Were your adjustments "included" in your surgery cost for say a year?
While it can certainly help accessing the port more easily, there are WAY MORE IMPORTANT reasons for using it.

So the doctor told me I was not getting a fill until I lost some weight!
He sent me home and told me to only do mushy food for two weeks and that I had to loose 10lbs
    @_@
    I was like really??
So now I feel like I'm not going to do this
I was like if I have been in the same weight for two months what makes you think I'm going to lose 10 in two weeks! Pls some one tell me that this is normal ... Now a week later I've gain 1lbs from all the stress of having to lose 10lbs in two weeks :-/

I think that is smart. Hardly anyone knows I've had it either.
It will be interesting to see reactions as weight drops. I lost 20 pounds pre-op and already saw a noticeable change in attitude towards me... So pathetic how we are judged by our appearance.
After reading this topic, I'm planning on keeping this a secret from most of my family. Even my immediate family.

Yeah only a few select people know I am having surgery- my aunt because she's my ride to and from the hospital, my primary doctor and of course the medical staff at True Results, all you wonderful people, and my son only because he went with me to my second appt. I am using vacation time for surgery also so I don't have to use fmla so work won't even know! I was going to try and do surgery and take the next day off but they only do surgeries Thursday and Fridays so I requested 2 wks off due to reading many post on here about being uncomfortable for a couple wks post op.
I got completely shook to my core by my so called support system so I can't and won't trust them to be here for me, and support my decision. They will only tell me how stupid and dangerous this is, but to me it's stupid and dangerous not to have the surgery!
    Ok off my soap box
Ps I have gone to my boss and nothing was done.

I have had remarks all of my life and I believe I eventually was able to ignore them. If I had to start the whole thing over again I would be sure to tell no one that I was having the surgery including most of my family. It just gives some idiots more ammunition for their filthy mouths. Good luck with your surgery and I'll bet it will be the best decision of your life. Some times people do not want someone else to better themselves.

Interesting statement. Lot of people seem to think this way and it does seem to be true more times than not, but you can easily be overcharged in the U.S. and get sub standard care.
Research seems to be the key to a good purchase, not price.
For instance, Dr. Ortiz seems to be a much better choice than many U.S. surgeons.
All that said though, I don't think I would ever consider Mexico seriously for the surgery. Just too many scary stories and no recourse if they are negligent.

2 months...hang in there...it's still early...what's 2 months in the entire realm of a changed lifestyle....
It took me 6 months to get in the "Groove" so to speak, and even then another 6 months of learning to live in that magical place.....
2 months in, after 1st fill, began to gain weight...was told in order to loose weight I need to count calories, measure portions, keep a journal...all fine things, BUT...I didn't need surgery to do that...I was convinced it was a big waste of time, after all the pre-op hoops I had to jump through, testing, 6 month diet, the anxiety, $$ spent.....it was a big major let down to learn it was just another diet...
BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!! Best decision I could have ever made...literally changed, and SAVED my life....only regret is that I did not do it years sooner....none the less, I'm 61 going on 35.....BRING IT!!!!

Of course, everything depends on one's band adjustment....
