October is going to be a crazy month for me- Got my date!
So I went to my first surgeon's visit today and got my date- October 3rd. I was really hoping for a september date, but, My surgeon is going on vacation. Not cool dude. No vacation for him Have to go get an EKG, a pre-op surgical clearance from my pcp, and a trip to the vampire for some lab work. Then one more meeting with the NUT at my surgeon's office as Kaiser likes to confuse the crap out of us and send us to their Nut's for 6 months and then ship us off to the surgeon's Nut for the rest of the time. I am honestly exhausted from all the hoop jumping- whenever I feel like I've made progress I still have more hoop jumping to go. It's like it's never enough..... On the plus side my Surgeon is a little chubby, and it makes me delirious with delight.

Got approved! Kaiser -Va
So, My case went before the Obesity Work Group at Kaiser MAS on tuesday. By Tues evening I checked my referrals online & they had approved my referral for Dr.Mayes!!!! I called up his office & snagged an apt for tomorrow Fri. They tried to give me the whole stall of you have to attend our seminar before we'll schedule you but luckily a fellow sleever gave me the heads up to get that done months ago. ( Thanks Isleevedit) I have a Nut visit on tues. Today I also drove all over to get my copy of my psych exam, blood test results & medical history. So hopefully I'll get a date tomorrow for sept- fingers crossed. I'm nervicited= nervous + excited. See pinkie pie below for example. allons-y

Appeals!
My clinic manager told us to get a lawyer & they have a local firm that they work with to get it overturned. Your insurance cannot exclude wls but cover things like diabetes or pregnancy. A few hundred or thousands are cheaper than self pay here or Mexico. Plus you get follow up care covered. allons-y

Submitted to Kaiser MAS... Waiting!
So last Nut visit was the 13th of aug. she told me that the review board meets on the 20th of aug but theres a chance that I get pushed back to the next board meeting. The waiting here is painful. Patience is not a virtue I possess. I did manage to lose 13.4 #during the supervised diet portion so I made the weight loss goal set for me by kaiser & then some. They told me I had to lose 3% of my body weight, which is 7 #. Waiting for a phone call! Going crazy, feeling nervicited. allons-y

NOT COVERED!
Get a lawyer. For real. Theres weight loss surgery lawyers who fight your insurance for coverage. If your insurance covers other things like diabetes etc tgey cant exclude coverage for obesity related treatment. A few hundred for a lawyer is hella cheaper than thousands for self pay or mexico. Also then your follow up will be covered. allons-y

when do you get your surgery date?
I have to complete insurance requirements & 6 months of visits. Get approved by board at insurance before I can even meet a surgeon. At first surgeon visit they give you the date usually 2-3 weeks from then or longer if u desire to push it. allons-y

So frustrated :(
I say call her& enquire why your paperwork is not done. Then go to her office & bring a book & dont leave til she gives it to you. Or write your own & bring it to her for her to sign. You paid for a service, she needs to provide it. allons-y

Lap scars
If you can try not to get any sun on the scars for the first year it'll help a lot w/ the color of the scars. I work w/surgeons & its their little hint. The scar silicone sheets can help if your scar is raised. Mederma helps w/ pigmentation. Also just the act of rubbing the area helps w/ healing. So lotion , vit e doesnt significantly matter the vigiorous rubbing helps oxygenate the skin, the blood flow increases there as a result & warmth from hands& friction helps too. allons-y

Syntrax Nectar
If theres a Vitamin shoppe near you they have sample packs by the registers & will match their online price of 35.99. -store shelf price is $39.99. Amazon has slightly cheaper-$32-$35& free shipping. I've gone both ways. If I may make a suggestion on flavors- get the roadside lemonade- its a mild lemon flavor - like watered down lemon Jello. Its great to mix in your fav mio or crystal lights so you go from one flavor to like 6 variations out of one tub. Fuzzy navel is nice also. I mix only w/ Water for fruit flavors & 1/2&1/2 water & milk for desert flavors- chocolate, vanilla & Cookies. The double oreo flavor is so-so, i prefer the vanilla torte w/ a pump of sugar free torani smores syrup from world market. allons-y

Car accident 2 weeks after surgery - broken leg
Hand bicycle- can help w/ cardio. Look for the seated work out video either online or at library. Its for the 500-600#ers who cannot walk or stand. You still have one good leg- ask for an ischial weight bearing kafo its a leg brace that takes all the weight off your leg from the hip down. You walk like an amputee on the ischium. Chin up. If your insurance will allow ask for pt to keep muscle atrophy at bay. allons-y
