I just wanted I to say I had my surgery today 7:30am and now starts my new chapter in life! weighed 286 preoperative now 275 as of this morning after 10 day diet. Very happy im so ready to do this!

Hi Leslie, i guess i just dont knw what to expect. My doc said a lot of people dont get a fill for a year because of the swelling and the band itself without a fill does restrict. I just hope i feel full when i am able to eat. As for the protein...ive tried three...Unjury i didnt like because it leaves an after taste in your mouth..i also tried " something" Nectars, i cant remember the name. They have lots of flavors and BJ's Bariatrics will sell sample packets. I like the chocolate lavors the best but they also leave that taste. The best so ar is Designer whey, no funny after taste. I perfectly understand u... I'm there too. I was banded the 18 and I have been starving. I tried to follow my doc advise abt liquids only, but after 3 days I was eating meets and veggies. I didn't vomit, didn't feel sick at all. My doc told me that The band is in place but it doesnt have much liquids to stop food craving. i should get a fill in about 2 months and then the band will do its job and it will b easier for me to do mine. In the meantime, my band is just around my tummy until I get a fill.
I'm starving, but I'm fighting it. I paid 9k for my band so I better do this.

Sounds like a plan! Just feels like it gets stuck or something which is so weird to me since it's just water....

Cindy the reason for the post op diet and slow moving to food is that your stomach needs time to heal. If you where to eat solid food then your stomach muscle would have to work and could rip out the stitches holding the band in place. So doing liquids then mushy food gives your stomach time to heal. This is what my doctor explained to me.

Farina is dry Cereal that needs to be cooked like grits or oatmeal. I personally like it with some cinnamon and sweetener.

You really shouldn't do that. You're given a liquid diet for a reason, not for torture. When you put solids in your sutured stomach, the churning of digestion could do some damage.
You need to call your Dr and talk to them about being to hungry on just liquids, maybe they can work something else out for you.

I agree with the others, it will vary from one individual to the next. As a nurse, we do a lot of bending, lifting, etc.--guess I would evaluate your type of nursing and see if you can tolerate the daily activity you do. I went back on day 9, did ok except for some bending causing some incisional discomfort. Hope that when you do return that all goes well!! Congrats on your new journey!!

No advice here as I'm pre-op but I just wanted to say I'm a Social Work major in college right now! Good luck with going back to work and with your band!

21bs in one week?

Had surgery on the 19th also. Started feeling hungry today. Made a nice Protein Shake. whey powder, 8 oz. of 1% milk, crushed ice in a blender. Use vanilla, chocolate, strawberry flavored powder. About $18 for a two pound jug of it at Walmart. About 26 grams of Protein per scoop. Filled me up good. My son just made a meat loaf and I want to kill him! Smells so good! Going to bed! Good luck! This is a battle we must win!

I'm Hispanic we eat lots of rice, meats, juices, starch. When my mom offers me these foods I seriously tell her, "mom, i want to feel good about my self, you are not helping me." I also feel my friends that! They feel guilty lolololol

I really like the canned chicken breast. I mixed it with chicken broth so it's moist and mashed it up with a fork. I ate cream of wheat, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, sugar free Jello and pudding.< /p>

Dear friends I just had surgery 2day an here I'm writing. My day started at 5am since I'm in Colorado and I prefer to use my NYC hour. Surgery was at 9am. everything was great. My doc and his staff are the best! I recommend him. Lapband surgery was $8950. I left clinic around 2pm. Headed to hotel, took my meds and then I hit the mall. Bought lots of things for my kids, their dad,and my mom. Hours later went to hotel, had meds, chicken broth, shower and here I am, talking 2 you guys. No pain at all! Just had some nausea but the med removed it immediately.
It's 10:30pm in Colorado and 12:30am in NYC. Follow up w doc 2moro and then back to NYC at 6pm Colorado time. I flew alone and hired caretaker here. I'm talking tony guys from the bad and she is on Facebook, cant b better. Soon both will sleeping.
Those who don't have any support like me, don't b afraid of doing what u gotta do. Have ur surgery, travel if u have to, find a fill doc, borrow the money, but don't let people and ur situation stop u. Follow ur dream bc lapband Is not about being skinny, it's about getting ur life back in order to enjoy it and to share it w ur love ones. It's to admire yourself and finally to see u in the mirror and saying hello to the person u used to b or to the face u wanted to have.

Hey, how r/u? Isolated? Tell me about it. My surgery is next Tuesday and my family is not seven aware. I toldd them I was having appendices removed. I'm going to Denver from NYC all alone to have this surgery. Why I didn't tell u might ask? Well, my friend tell me tell u that they would never support me on this and they would criticize me for the rest of my life. I have a fat sister and even she criticize my weight. They tell me, u are too young to be fat, but they would have never support me on this. My children are staying w my mom and I'm traveling all alone to do this.
Toomuchfun, I'm coming t denver Monday, withstand me luck!

I broke my diet (Atkins). Surgery Tuesday so to make it up, I'm going to start liquid diet tomorrow.

I just found these docs/ clinnics who are willing to take me,
Bronxville bariatrics, westchester county (300-500 fill)
NYU bariatrics, manhattan (500 fill)
Jacobi hospital bariatrics (made appt w their surgeon) take all major insurance, no self paid
I also found several private clinics in Teaneck, NJ, Brooklyn, NY, Long Island
St. Luke's hospital in NYC
