Rockstar_Jen got a reaction from nursewallace in San Antonio!
I had surgery with Dr.Carcamo and true results on Feb 5th. So far everying is going well, I have lost about 22 pounds since my pre-op diet. I would love to meet some more friends here! I went to support group meeting with TR, but there were only 3 of us there. I was slightly disappointed. I hope everyone else is doing great!

I agree that you need to get in to see your doctor. I know exactly how you are feeling right now. My surgery was a year ago too and I feel like I am eating a little more. I have been at the same weight for about 4 months and getting frustrated. The office did a barium swallow and my pouch is very slightly dilated. They didn't take out any Fluid, but put me on 2 shakes a day and then one meal to try and get it to shrink down a little without taking out Fluid. I am trying so hard to stick to the shakes and get back on track. Maybe your issue is as simple as mine. Just stay positive and get into the doctor. We didn't go through all of this just to throw in the towel a year later. Good luck!!

So, some of you already know, I will have been banded for a year on August 15. In that time, I've lost 100 pounds, and can hardly believe it. It is taking a long time for me to recognize certain victories, but I can say for certain that today was one of the best ones. I had to go to a wedding, and the dress I was planning on wearing ended up being way too big. I didn't know, until I attempted to get dressed, and started to freak out because I had nothing to wear. I called my mom, ran to her house, raided her closet and while holding my breath attempted to wear one of hers. Well, this formally size 24, was able to wear her mother's size 10! That's me, the blonde on the right, in my moms dress!!

    1. Started losing around 3 months out
    2. It was mostly just noticeable to me, I was freaking!
    3. I was/am taking a multi, Calcium plus D and a hair/skin/nails B complex with 3000mcg of Biotin
    4. The loss slowed down within three months
    5. I was back to normal after six months.
I can tell you what I was told and what seemed to ring true for me. In our case the hair loss is not always related solely to Vitamin deficiency but you need to eat well and take your Vitamins because regardless of whether you lost due to deficiency or not, the Vitamins will help your body recover and help your hair to grow back. Often the Hair loss is simply due to shock. You suddenly changed your diet, likely ate an extremely restrictive pre-op/ post op diet. On top of that, anesthesia and surgery can stress your system and now your diet is still restricted and you are losing a lot of weight.
With all of this your body sort of goes into a shock mode. Your body puts all of its focus on processes necessary for survival and hair is not one of those things. Hair is on a 3-month cycle. So hair loss typically becomes noticeable at around 3 months. Once your body recovers (vitamins and a good diet aids in this), your loss will slow down and will begin to grow back within 3 months (again proper diet and supplements help it to grow and makes regrowth nice and healthy). My doctor assured me that not one of his patients went bald due to surgery and I found that all that he said was true for me.

nothing taste as good as the feeling of putting on "those" clothes..... We all have them, the ones we hid way in the back of our closet. The ones you just can't seem to get rid of... Because one day i may fit into it again... Then one day you pull it out of it's hidden spot...try it on... OMG.. It fits... and the angles sing and the birds chirp.. and the rainbow appears.... OH Happy days...
Congrats NJdad... keep up the good work...

Yes I have the Lapband without which I would not have had the "success" I am enjoying. I explained this to the author but they wanted to focus on the "work" involved, around nutrition, Exercise and sleep ALSO without which I would not have had the "success". It's really not an either/or (WLS or exercise/food plan) it's a BOTH. I view my Lapband like the glasses I need to read - without my glasses I can't read because my vision is blurry (where others don't need glasses) BUT once I put the glasses on I still have to READ (do the work) the book and comprehend it.

I feel you! I'm also a traveling sales girl. I usually do Protein Shakes in the morning. I also try and find a grocery store and a room with a mini fridge. You'll adjust. I had so much bad food out of town. I also thought it didn't count if I wasn't at home, lol. Could be part of the reason I gained so much weight. It's been so eye opening counting calories and watching what I put in my body.

Im going to say this...People like this, (who have insurance or taxpayer money to get the band and then fail the band), are the reason that MY insurance company has a COMPLETE exclusion clause for ANY bariatric procedure. No matter your health or any other factors. I was total self pay. $10,000 out of my pocket. Because some people just take advantage of the system and dont even try. GRRRRR!!!

Hey we're band buddies! I was banded the same day and I've had two fills. Like you I was super nervous, but seriously it's nothing! It doesn't even feel like getting a fly shot or blood drawn. You will laugh at how nervous you were after it's done. :-). It felt a little weird and I was extra cautious the first time I ate after each time. I haven't gotten stuck yet and I keep thinking its bound to happen after a fill. My doc has me do 1 day liquids then 1 day soft food after a fill. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

I just had my first yesterday banded 2/27 They asked me what I was eating and how much and if I felt restrict (so they could decide how much fill or not. I had no restriction and they gave me 2 cc's The technician had me lay on the table and he found my port by pushing on my tummy below the big incision and put the needle in. He stated he knew he was in the port because he could pull what he was putting in. To be honest the place he stuck me was numb and I felt a lil quick pressure but no sting and I HATE NEEDLES I never looked at them. I take diuretics with my bp meds and it always takes people 2-3 tries for iv or drawing blood and I totally dread them. It was so uneventful I said "are you done, that's it?"
Hoping yours works out the same

Mine says to avoid snaking, however if you must make good healthy choices. A Protein bar might help, just make sure it's low in sugars and carbs. I do the Adkins bar when I really need something.

All of the above posts have great advice in them. Retraining ourselves to step away from the emotional eating carousel isn't going to be easy (it's the one aspect of this journey I am challenged by most!) B-52 says what I've thought about this from the beginning and why I chose the band over other WLS options,
Normal weight people do not (usually) obsess over their food choices. They eat a balanced diet every day and enjoy treats on special occasions. Most normal weight people do not exclude ANYthing from their diet unless it's an allergy/tolerance thing. Most normal weight people get an appropriate amount of exercise every week, whether its formal training or just an active lifestyle.
I am going to live like a normal weight person. I AM GOING TO LIVE LIKE A NORMAL WEIGHT PERSON.
In order to stop associating my food choices or eating according to an emotional response, I have to stop attaching guilt or pleasure to my food (not to be confused with appreciating quality food). I am going to stop beating myself up when I have something I once considered a non-diet food, when it's eaten at an appropriate time and place, not under duress, and in appropriate quantities. I went into this with the idea that I would never place any food item on a prohibited list but that I would, with the help of the band and other resources, relearn how to eat like a normal weight person eats.
I think it is unrealistic to think that I will never have another piece of chocolate, never experience a fresh Krispy Kreme doughnut, never enjoy a gourmet meal on a cruise ship, or experience new foods when we travel. I will eat one of my famous sauerkraut balls on New Years Day, I will have a spinge on St Joseph's Day, I will enjoy the fish fry we have after a good fishing weekend, and sample the extraordinary offerings at our community pot lucks.
I will appreciate food for what it is and not place undue value on what it is not. This is my mantra. This is the lesson I am learning as I shed the weight that resulted from my old understanding of food, the crutch that held me up when I didn't think I could hold myself up without it. I am stronger than the old ways. I have wasted enough of my life living like that. I am deserving of it. And it will bring me as much joy as I have been blessed to have in my life to this point.
And so are you, so have you, so will you. Forgive yourself and move on.
