I had two pairs of brand new jeans bought a couple years ago that sat in a drawer because they were too small. I finally pulled them out today and guess what? They are too big!!! I got down on the floor last night to look under the bed for something and popped right back up. I was like wow that was easy. I usually take several minutes getting off the ground. I cut my toenails the other night and realized I can just reach down and cut them no problem. It use to take forever just to get in a position to do that. I love love love my lap band!!!

LadyDreadHead got a reaction from Karen WS in Dogs
I have two dogs, eight year old Huey, and two year old Chica. Chica is very high-strung. Since I live alone, I left them at the boarding facility that my vet runs for one week following my surgery on 2/19/13. I was worried that Chica would jump on me. It's her usual method of greeting me. But when I picked her and Huey up, she was calm. Upon our return home, the first thing she did was sniff my stomach. Whenever she started to get to energetic, I let her smell my stomach and she'd settle down. I knew I was progressing well when I pulled up my shirt for her to sniff my tummy and she looked at me like I was crazy!

    Hayley-
I completely understand where your coming from. Pre-band I always had some anxiety but nothing major. @ my two-week post-op visit I just completely broke down on my doctor (who also is a close friend, so not your typical doctor-patient relationship). She started me on 50mg of Zoloft a day, after a week or so of taking it I felt great. I know some people can deal with anxiety without medication and I think that is amazing, but unfortunately I am not one of those people. I recommend talking to your doctor. Don't let this keep you in, your going to loose plenty of weight and you gotta get out there girl to show it off!

Anxiety issues aren't logical. All of a sudden the things that you've been doing for years can cause you to feel like you are choking, or your heart may feel like it's beating too fast. Or as in your case, you may feel sick to the stomach. Anxiety can manifest in many ways.
I was a therapist for years. I've also, had an anxiety disorder for years. In addition, I've dealt with having agoraphobia. While I'm doing a lot better now, there are still times when I have anxiety issues.
Talking with your doctor, or a therapist, can help you get a handle on things. It may be that the anxiety you are experiencing is a temporary emotional reaction to learning to live with your band. Or, it may be an anxiety disorder. The only way to know for sure what it is and how to deal with it is to consult a professional. If it is an anxiety disorder, your symptoms may worsen without help. You sound like a very strong, independent woman. Just remember, even strong women need help from time to time.

LadyDreadHead reacted to parisshel in Negative remarks -- from someone who should know better
I just got back from taking my 16-year old to a center specialized in pediatric/adolescent obesity. She's not obese but she is 20 pounds overweight and I would like the "experts" to help guide her in making good choices, as presumably what they say carries more weight that what parents say.
That part of the session went well, and I liked her approach to managing my daughter's weight thru more activity rather than a strict diet.
Our last consultation was in January, and she noted in my daughter's file that I was getting a lapband the following March. My daughter also brought this up at today's consultation, citing that our family meals had changed a lot (for the better) due to my way of eating now.
And this doctor, who is supposed to be on my side (right?), looks at me and says "You haven't lost any weight since I last saw you, correct?" HELLO! I've lost 30 pounds!
OK, I didn't let it get to me. She sees millions of parents go thru her office and I doubt she recalled what I looked like six months ago. But still, it was such an odd way to phrase the question. A more appropriate way would have been to say "How much have you lost since your surgery?"
But then, she went for a second shot. I was describing what I eat and what I don't eat, and when I mentioned I don't eat bread, Pasta, rice, etc, she said "Oh, that's just for now. You'll eat it in the future." I shook my head and said no, I won't be adding those back into my diet, I don't miss them and cutting them out has been responsible for much of my loss. She insisted that I'd eat them in the future, that people with the band eventually "open up the band," blah blah blah negativesauce which even typing this out now is irritating me.
I get why some people diss the band (or other WLS tools). But when a professional...an obesity researcher at that...sends the message that a motivated bandster is destined for failure...it's just a matter of time? I just wanted to ask her why she would say something like that.
But I'm polite so I shut up. But my child noticed it and called her "mean."
Yes, she was. Impolite and mean.

I guess I'm just venting a little, so I do not expect replies or things to change but... FILL OUT YOUR PROFILES PEOPLE! You come here for information, support, help, etc. read all of our posts in which many of us put it all out there, but give little to no information about yourselves. It's hard to give helpful advice, share experience or relate to someone who tells you nothing in return. Look - I get it! I was new here once myself and very reluctant to share my personal information. I'm generally a very private person and to share on the internet, the one most revealing, private, humiliating and shameful fact about myself - my weight - was terrifying. But, would any of us be here if we weren't in the same boat? Unless you're really weird, have no life and enjoy reading about people's struggles with their weight and all of the funny, sad, bizarre and boring stuff that goes with it (I certainly hope not) why would you be here?. If you want to spy on people there are many more truly exciting places to do it!
Most, if not all, are not here to judge anyone. Well it does seem to happen sometimes but I think it's simply because that's the nature of the beast. Take away one of life's greatest enjoyments, best friend, best panacea, and not see all of that weight fall off overnight can make anyone cranky, temperamental and generally unpleasant, but no matter how you cut it, we all want the same thing. To me this forum is my private place where I can share my struggles, doubts and successes no matter how large or small with folks that understand. It's my weight loss group therapy and just like real group therapy, I don't gossip about what I read here or talk about particular people outside of this forum. Yes, I may comment to someone about something I read, usually because I'm amazed at their success, identify with them, like their advice or even worry about them, but I don't give out names, particulars, etc. I get true inspiration, insight, ideas, motivation, encouragement and more from many that share their experiences. Here's a shocking revelation for you just in case you don't know - it's no secret that you are overweight or obese! It's the one thing that you can't hide. Everyone knows! You are (or were) fat or you shouldn't be here. On top of that overweight people have unfortunately become a majority. Having to struggle with something only makes you human. If you truly want to get something from here, then you have to give something. Now is the time to be honest with yourself and others and get real!
Sorry, but it had to be said. Don't tell me many of you weren't thinking the same thing! I'm done now. Just to reiterate, I do not expect things to change and profiles to suddenly start getting filled out, nor do I expect replies. JMHO. Have a nice day and eat to live, not live to eat!

Hi all haven't been on of late due to some extreme life issues. My Mother In Law a passed away at the same time this was happening I was diagnosed with a tumor on my kidney. I recently had surgery (last Tues 5/14) And they removed part of my kidney and all the tumor!!! I had a little trouble in the OR with my breathing but the good Lord was watching over me and all was ok. I am home now on the mend slowly very slowly! I have had a couple of stuck moments which with the surgery were excrutiating but got passed. Just really could use some prayers through this ordeal! Can't wait to get back on track although I'm not gaining so that's good!
