  1. BTW, scale moved today. 2 pounds down. The first of many mini plateaus
  2. If I can stop shoveling the food in, I loose weight quickly. But historically, I also loose in spurts. I just found it interesting that this is also happening with the band, though it makes sense. The band isn't going to change how we loose weight, as far as I can figure it, it helps with the "shoveling food in" part. The real fun for me will come in a couple of months when it is warm enough to start cycling again, as I start training to do a Century in the fall, my weight will bounce all over the place as I spend more and more time on my bike. When I train heavily, I put on muscle, retain Water and see weight gains for weeks at a time to see 10 pounds drop in a week. It is a real "E" ticket ride.
  3. Normal day, no problem. I do eat at my desk, but I am my group is the equivalent of IT firefighters. If is is broken and and reaches us, then it is bad and we have to drop what ever we are doing and focus on getting the issue fixed. That and attending meetings that the CIO has assigned to me, as well as meetings with vendors. Throw in an adult daughter with the flu and a run across town to take my granddaughter to school and pick her up afterwards. I didn't even see my desk until 12:00 and by then I just wanted to pour my lunch down my throat and move on. Thankfully when last night I was able to mellow out and enjoy a nice slow dinner.
  4. Made chili for the family, pureed a cup for myself and I should have done it before the hamburger was added. Very, very gritty. Chicken on the other hand has pureed nicely in my soups. Anyone know if beef in another form does the same thing?
  5. specifically Androgel? If so, what has your weight loss done for your levels?
  6. I don't have an option after the hiccups start there isn't a darn thing I can do except give up. And yes, the band wins every time, if I don't have enough time to eat, then I don't eat, rushing is not an option. I need to keep some energy gels in my desk to keep my blood sugar up though.
  7. 800 - 960 based on my BMI of 40. And I wasn't advised, I was told.
  8. If you were going to get ink poisoning it would happen at the time of tattooing I personally would wait until after the surgery, finding the port shouldn't be a problem.
  9. Congrats, this was a freebie that my Dr. through in as well, I haven't had to take my previcid since the surger.
  10. that I don't have time to eat slowly today, I am too freaken busy and people won't leave me alone!!! I have been arguing with my band about this all day and it won't listen to me.
  11. Dietary instructions now say if I can drink it through a straw, go for it! I bought a can of chicken and rice tortilla soup, threw it into the blender with a couple of springs of fresh cilantro, and a spoonful of hot salsa and pureed it. Poured a 1/2 cup and I am in heaven! I have missed spices soooo much. Now to wait and see how my stomach likes it. Tomorrow, homemade refritos thinned with chicken broth.
  12. Thanks all, I know for the old timers these observations may seem old hat, but I have failed so many times, that I am trying to not take anything for granted, but to look at everything through new eyes and avoid the pit falls that have sidelined me so many times.
  13. 11K - Out patient, includes 1 year of fills.
  14. Then don't waste the phone call and just suck it up Seriously, my lap band nurse told me the pre-op diet does two things, 1. Shrinks the liver 2. Makes you thankful for your band. I added a third, in that it was really hard, and helped cement in my own mind that I really wanted the surgery and that I would have the will power to live with the band for the rest of my life. Ask yourself, every time you drink a shake, "how badly do I want to be thin and healthy?"
  15. Not a complaint. I am 8 days post op and for during the pre-op diet and 4 days post op the scale went down every day (21 pounds total). Last four days? Nothing. 271.6. Now before everyone rushes to tell me it's ok, and natural and to not get discouraged. Don't worry, I have been dieting on and off since I was a pre-teen, I know, I'm not. The problem is that for those of us who are strict believers in the burn more calories than you eat to lose weight, we need to remember that this formula only works over a long period of time, and is not a daily equation. I have a BMR of 2700, I have been consuming about 1000 calories on average over the last 4 days, that gives me a deficit of 1700 a day, or basically a pound every other day. Unfortunately sometimes, my body sucks at math and I won't lose anything for weeks and the drop it 5 or 6 pounds in a week. Or it will stall and then I will start loosing weight at the normal rate again. And everything that I have read on this forum, and my own much limited experience says that the band does not change that fact. I need to be realistic about what the band will and won't do. Frankly, if I could I could stay where I am in right now in relationship to the band I would, very little hunger, a hard time getting my calories in, but I won't as I heal as I lose weight, when I start to get fills, it will change and so will I. But I need to stay realistic and understand what I can control, and what I can't control. Peace
  16. I had trouble getting water down then (still do, especially in the morning (8 days post op)). BREAD???
  17. The procedure it called "gastric plication" Google it for an explanation.
  18. Day 7 here, it has taken me 4 hours to go through 24 ounces of cranberry juice today. The instructions from my Dr. for right after surgery told me not to expect to go through more than 4 ounces in 45 minutes, but to take small sips all day long. It is going to feel really weird, but sip and wait, sip and wait. Heating pad helped me for the chest pains. Your journey has begun, welcome to the club.
  19. Did your Dr. give you guidelines? If so, follow those. For the first 4 days I couldn't even get 800 calories down. Day 4 and 5 hunger kicked in and I got up to 1200, day 6 600 calories. The things that kept me alive were full sugar popsicles, gatorade, cranberry juice and homemade chicken broth. BTW, I dropped 11 pounds the first 5 days.
  20. I chose a limited group of other believers before the surgery because I wasn't asking their for their opinions, but for their support so I chose people that I could count on. After the surgery, I have told people as the need came. My confidence in the people I told before hand was validated by their unswerving support, and I have been pleasantly surprised by those I have told afterwards as well. Additionally I found out that two others in Church had also been banded. Scripture (Romans 14:20-22) from the lesson this morning is extremely appropriate for the subject: So then let us lpursue what makes for peace and for mmutual upbuilding. 20 nDo not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. oEverything is indeed clean, but pit is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats. 21 qIt is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.3 22 The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. rBlessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves.
  21. I find this post sexist, in my experience guys pay a lot more attention to boobs, than women do Sorry, if I offended put I couldn't pass this one up.
  22. 1. Last night my wife walked in to the kitchen as I was fixing dinner, and made this comment "Wow, you have lost weight, your belly is quite a bit smaller". 2. Getting ready for Church this morning, I decided to try on a shirt that I hadn't been able to wear in a while, just to see if it would fit. it did I so I asked my wife for a second opinion (fishing for another compliment ), and got sent back to the closet to find smaller pants to go with the shirt.
