Sharpie got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
I have a beautiful step daughter who is obese, She is smart and has a good husband and kids and teaches 2nd grade. I worry about her health and her Dad was always telling me to talk to her about her weight. I just didn't want to go there . She knows she has a problem I don't need to tell her. She lost 85 lbs last year but put it back on and then some. She has tried bless her heart, I just want to say please do something now before you develop serious issues. She has gone back on her diet and is on myfitness pal so she sees my posts. She knows I Had Band surgery and I hope when and if she decides to take the plunge she will ask me about mine. Until then I'm just waiting.

so good to see some of you are back. I haven't been too active lately either. Had things going on that kept me from being very motivated getting ready to go on vacation soon, going to a dude ranch in Canada, stopping in Montana, touring Glacier National Park and then to the ranch for a week or riding and rafting and eating good food. I have added a few lbs also just purely didn't care. had so much depression and sadness to deal with, but I know I have to take care of myself too.
Hope you all get back on track and will hope we all have good things happen the rest of the year.

Lisa I am so sorry about the loss of your Dad. it never gets easier no matter what. I know firsthand about loss and it does mess with your health and well being. I am praying that you resolve your heath issues and are able to get back on track to good health. Keep the good memories alive and be happy he is in a good place. I know my bill is no longer in pain and we Celebrate his life every day.

Debbie so glad you are okay. Girls I think I am going to enjoy the new Red Car and it was a step forward .Shingles are so painful and just plain makes you feel crumby. If you have had chicken pox make sure you get a shingles shot wish I had but I will get one once this is over . positive note, my best friend came down from Alabama to make sure I stay down and out of the heat. She is a godsend. She was worried about me getting depressed so she just decided to stay with me a few days. we're just hanging out, watching tv and playing board games.

Thank you girls for your love and support. I did a little better yesterday with eating and I felt better physically today. Missed my yoga class today , I had a date with my granddaughter to shop and have lunch. I am so blessed to have them close by. yes life just sucks sometimes and nothing remains the same. It gets pretty scary when people you love suddenly are no longer here. I appreciate all of your advise and prayers. It's hopefully going to turn around to something positive in my life soon. I still have my health and I have some plans to travel in Sept. I think this darn weight thing is a struggle and it s way worse when life sucks the will and motivation out of you. I promised my daughter that I would get up each day and do what I can to eat good and exercise. She said Mom, your getting down and not taking care of yourself will not bring them back and will only hurt me and the girls In the end. I will check in and Lisa I am hoping and praying your health is improved.
    Loveyou all.

probably one of the most difficult things to adjust to is cooking for myself. After my husband died I was lost and just ate lean cuisines or take out. it made me gain weight. I have been working on getting myself back on track. for Breakfast I have low fat corned beef hash with a egg on top, sometimes high Protein oatmeal. I do not eat much bread at all. I also make homemade Soups and chili. . problem I have is eating it until it's gone. I also grill or bake chicken thighs and make vegetables. I will cook for my kids on Sundays often and then I can make a big meal like I was used to.a lifetime of cooking big meals is difficult for weight management and just plain hard to break that habit. I am getting better with time though. Everyone's ideas were great .

I found out today I have shingles. My eye was puffy over the weekend, thought maybe it was allergies but it got worse and I had a horrendous headache. anyways another hurdle. The only good thing is I am really not hungry but I have to eat something because of the medication they put me on. I hope everyone else is doing okay and I'm looking forward to a better week next week. On the good side I was able to sell my husband's truck and I traded my 2012 car in for a new "red car" never had a red car before. changes are bittersweet sometimes. Id rather have my beloved Bill back than a new car but I have to keep on with my life. I only have a month to go before I will be going to Canada on my Dude ranch vacation with my best friend. Other than shingles life is okay for now. Hope everyone else is doing good.

You are experiencing the pre surgery doubts. I almost jumped off the gurney in pre-op area I was so scared. However, 3 years later I am healthier and happier than I have been in years. You will not really be concerned with food at first, your brain tells you that you want the food but your system won't let you eat it. As time goes on you will learn what you can and can't eat. I can eat most foods except, really dry meats like white meat chicken, I eat dark meat it's juicier. I also cannot eat white rice but it's a good trade off for being completely diabetes free and no cholesterol problems or high blood pressure meds. your main concern will be learning to eat small portions and slowly, If you need to get a sedative or something to calm your nerves before surgery ask your Dr. depending on what type of surgery you have recovery is relatively easy, follow all the instructions they give you and for the first few weeks, get lots of rest and stay hydrated. Best of Luck .

Love my Band - No more diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure.
No complications no problems. I am not on a diet for the first time in 25 years. Love having the ability to walk , swim, ride my horse and travel. Buying clothes is fun again. Best decision I have ever made .

First Fourth of July without my husband of 39 years. I've had several holidays without him since he passed away in October. I have my daughter and her husband and granddaughters that live close and I celebrated Thanksgiving , Christmas, New Years , Valentines Day and our Anniversary (would have been 40th) in his memory. Even though people
are around you still have a feeling of being alone. I stay busy and do enjoy my time. Happy Fourth to everyone .

I was also overwhelmed by the negativity shown towards the band after lapband talk turned to BP. I stopped posting very much at first. There are failures with all WLS . The lapband has been my lifesaver. at age 66 I was headed for a health crisis. My diabetes was spiraling towards a life with insulin dependence, my cholesterol was too high and my blood pressure stayed high. My GP suggested the weight loss surgery. I am fortunate to have had the best surgeon in our area to do my surgery. He is conservative with fills and I go in to see him at least every 6 months or so. have had no issues and still maintaining my loss. Love my Band hope it last forever.

sorry your experience was not good. I am one of the many successful bandsters. The Lapband was the best decision I ever made ..It saved me from a life of poor health. at the age of 66 I made the leap to weight loss surgery after many years of failed diets and gimmicks I was a diabetic and had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My mobility was getting limited every day. I am always sad to see such drastic post about any of the weight loss surgeries but, I am in hopes your issues will be resolved with bypass surgery. There are many failures in each type of weight loss surgery so that being said, there are still plenty of surgeons who will and do perform lapband .

thanks liz. You understand how it is. Bill and I were a team. Doubt anyone could love me more than he did. He let me be me and never questioned anything I did. WE made major decisions together of course. I think it is possible to be okay with widowhood, I always knew I would be alone at some point, he was 13 years older than me. When I think I will just eat what I want, and to hell with this weight loss stuff.I remember He was my biggest fan and support, he was so proud I made the decision to have lapband surgery. he cheered me on daily. so, it is more difficult without his support but the memory of his beaming at me when I got to my goal will be with me forever.

thanks Julie , I am so grateful for the support I've gotten from you and Liz, I have my daughter and granddaughters close by so I am lucky. My daughter is still struggling with the loss of her Dad. She loved him so and was so close to him. I can't show her my sad side . She is finally able to talk about her Dad without breaking down. It all will take time and I know he would want us to live our lives as happy as we can. In the meantime I am still healthy and happy with my lapband.

Liz Bill and I were married 39years, we would have celebrated 40 years this past March. It gets a little easier each day but some days I wake up wondering how to make it through the day without him. I just stay as busy as possible and drop into the bed at night with the TV on. I am trying to adjust to being alone. Thank you so much for your support. Weight wise, about the same, up and down, trying to lose a little before vacation in Sept. going to Canada to a dude ranch for a week and to Glacier Nat'l Park. Take care keep posting and yes I am concerned with not seeing Debbie . Hope someone can contact her to make sure she is okay.

at 66 years old I had lapband surgery, it was the best thing I have ever done. I have maintained my loss for 3 years I am now 69 and feel like i'm in my 40's. no diabetes, it was almost out of control , no high cholesterol, no high blood pressure I am mobile and fit,,, I exercise 3 or 4 days a week. you are never too old to get health. Lapband was less invasive but it requires patient compliance. However, I still have my stomach and my intestines were not re-routed. I only take a few Vitamins a day and can eat pretty much what I like. I do not eat bread or Pasta and I mostly eat Protein and some vegetables . I can still have a treat now and then and even a drink on special occasions. don't give up due to your age, you have lots of good years left
