I might have posted this before but I don't see it here: Wendy's chili - excellent source of Protein, low calories, also ChicFilA chicken tortilla soup . you can eat the grilled nuggets @ ChicFilA also , i'm not a fan they are a little dry for me. If I end up going to a regular restaurant I try to find a good soup on the menu. No Bread, No Pasta for me and No Rice .

so happy to see this post. I am anticipating going to Alaska in Aug. I have a bit of fear about the buffets however, right now my band would not let me eat much solid food. But I am a sweet addict. I know those ships have marvelous Desserts so I am really going to have to watch it. I agree though about the struggle, there are times when it's so difficult but I know I would be immobile or possibly crippled by diabetes . I also had high blood pressure, real threat of a stroke. so, I will take this struggle over losing my life to obesity.

We’ll get to the job news, but first I’m going to tell you a job story of my own. I’m a writer and story-teller: that’s my job. Often my stories are fiction, but every word in this story is true.
Many years ago, I attended a business luncheon with a coworker who was naturally slim. The food was delicious: a huge, flaky croissant filled with chicken and grape salad, a mountain of potato chips (I adore potato chips), and strawberry shortcake for dessert. About one-third of the way through her meal, my coworker stopped eating and pushed her plate away.
“What’s the matter?” I said. “Don’t you like the food?”
“Oh, it’s fine,” she said. “I just can’t eat any more.”
She must have seen the baffled look on my face, because she added an explanation. “I eat a certain amount, and then I reach a point where I just can’t eat another bite, so I stop eating. I’ve always been this way.”
I wanted to offer to finish her lunch for her, but was too ashamed of my own greed to suggest it, and I was busy digesting what she had just said. I couldn’t remember ever in my life reaching the point where I couldn’t eat another bite of food. And although I had tried more diets and slimming plans than I could name, it had never occurred to me that I might become slim simply by stopping eating when I became full. My coworker was effortlessly slim and I was effortlessly obese. I subsided into silent envy over her natural advantage.
I spent the next 20 years suffering from morbid obesity and developing numerous health problems as a result of it. Finally, after much research and thought, I decided that weight loss surgery was my best option. On September 19, 2007, I had adjustable gastric band surgery. Ever since then I have been learning how to eat, and live, like a slim person. During that time, I’ve accumulated a lot of information, and have cultivated a lot of opinions that may not agree with yours, but of everything I’ve learned during my weight loss journey, there’s one truth you need to heed.
Like it or not, no bariatric surgery of any description is magic. The WLS patients I know have all worked hard for their success. Adjustable gastric band. Roux-en-Y. Vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Sleeve plication. Duodenal switch. The surgical procedure happens only once (good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise), but one thing, common to us all, happens every day for the rest of our lives. Weight loss and weight loss maintenance require attention, commitment and action every day for the rest of our lives. It’s a job – a career – we must do or die.
A smart, mature, diligent acquaintance who did her research before she took the weight loss surgery plunge said to me once, “I had no idea how much work this was going to be.”
The work is not just in the weight loss but in lifestyle changes. The work doesn’t end once you reach your goal weight, but believe me: it is so very, very worth it. I love this new job of mine. I love the improved health and high energy and increased self-esteem and size 4 clothing, and I hope I never grow tired of it or take it all for granted.
A lifetime of work ahead of you can seem overwhelming. Think of it as a lifetime of learning. Learning is a good thing. If you stop learning, you stop growing. And if you stop growing, you die.
My mother, who struggled with obesity most of her life, used to say that there was a tall, thin brunette inside her just waiting to get out. I will always have a short, fat blonde girl inside me just waiting to get out. But having weight loss surgery has given me some wonderful tools for lifetime weight management, and I hope that proves to be the same for you.

oh Steve that is a true statement. I find sometimes successful weight loss brings out all the "experts". I tell people who ask me questions about dieting that if I were such a great dieter I wouldn't have needed surgery. I only know what my doctor tells me. But, sometimes I catch myself looking at a obese person and thinking wow they should do something about that weight. I think it's human nature an part of the process is that we sometimes think we have found the answer. In reality we all have had the same struggle and I have the fear that I will fail every day. I guess that is why I read posts on here and watch all the obesity shows on t.v I have recommended lapband surgery to several people who have asked but I don't offer advice without them asking.

I totally Agree with the assessment of Mrs. O'Donnell.. She is a crazy witch who is always running her pie hole about something she knows nothing about. As for the View what a insult to or intelligence.. None of these women are smart enough to give advice to anyone. My band and I are totally happy, Thank You very Much Rosie...

My doctor is in a "Circle of Excellence." I wanted a sleeve, he strongly recommended the band based on my age, health and on his experience. My wife wanted a band, and because of some medications she had to take, he advised her to have the sleeve.
The band works... if someone goes to a "freeway clinic" and has problems, the fault most likely lies with the surgical group, and not the procedure.

Just like the time Tom Selleck went on her show to promote a movie and she attacked him about his association with the NRA. She found an open window to allow herself to inject her political beliefs. Check out the youtube video.

Her comments weren't really about the surgery, she was just using the occasion to take a pot-shot at a Republican. People like her inject their political views into every miniscule aspect of their day. Then they turn around and call everyone else "mean-spirited."
If she were speaking about, oh say...Michael Moore choosing the lap-band procedure, she would not have said what she did.
It's sickening.

Jessi-- back that up with facts. Any elective medical procedure with the failure rate you claim would not be practiced. No doctor needs that failure rate, nor the risk of dealing will a sullied reputation. So, show us facts for lap band failure rates for procedures--excluding the archaic 4 CC band which is no longer used in the US. Surgical techniques have also improved. Your research?? I suggest it is flawed, and myopic.
I did my research, and was aware of the risks. My doctor could have done any procedure, but strongly advised the band based on my health, age and other parameters. Why would he risk my health if the band was a failure? And his practices credentials are above reproach and has a very high success rate with the band.

Rosie is known for her outrageous comments! Of course she is going to criticize other surgeries because she did not choose that one. Does not make her view on the View right. Somewhere out people will start to realize that all weight loss surgeries are the tool for those of us that are at that point in our lives where we need help. Like she did!
That is what she should be focusing on not the procedures themselves. I don't watch the view either. Too jumbled with a lot of tension.

I do not watch the view at all. They are all crazy and too liberal in my opinions everything is either their way or no way.

Alex I find that the sleeve and bypass folks like to troll on the lapband forums and bash the bandsters. I am very discouraged by the constant barrage of negativity regarding the band. I had hoped that the combination of all of the WLS forums would not result in a contest to see whose surgery was the best but it's obvious that the ease with which they can come to our forum and post negative about the lapband is too much. I would respectfully request that you or someone moniter some of this behavior. I think if it continues I will withdraw from visiting the Bariatric pal site. There are positive sites I can visit to get information and encouragement.

She would have resented me for interfering in her life and probably wouldn't listen. She is now on a weight loss plan and has lost 85 lbs through dieting and exercise.. I am so proud of her and I pray it last. But now and again we consult on nutrition but I still do not give her advice.

I've felt it myself.....wanting to open a conversation with someone I see & tell them "I understand", etc. Before WLS was even a spark in my mind, I think I would have rejected someone coming out of the clear blue with that brand of dialogue. There is a time and a place, and "cold calling" isn't it.
My time and place was when my next-door neighbor told me that she had a bypass. We were just chit chatting about whatever when she said it, and I was shocked; had NO idea that this woman was ever obese. She didn't tell me as a way to motivate me to do it. She was simply sharing a part of her life. I asked her a ton of questions, and that's what starting ME thinking seriously about it. It took close to a year after that for me to actually go through with it, but that spark ignited something inside of me, and moved me toward taking that step. But, if that comment came from some stranger off the street, I may have been offended. I think, if we're having a casual conversation with someone already, and they mention that they had surgery, that's fine. But out of the clear blue......someone telling you that they understand what you're going through......when they have no idea who you are, is just wrong. IMHO, of course.
