bluegirly reacted to WheelCrazy in Will someone just move in with me!?
Ohh what I would do to have someone move in with me - cook or prepare me healthy band friendly meals - slap the fork out of my hand when it has too big of a bite on it - berate me till I chew my food to death......then I do believe I would be successful!! Otherwise, I really suck at this!!

First of all, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what that is like. But I would suggest you see your surgeon asap to discuss where you should go from here. If you are having a hard time getting back into the swing of things, you might just need a reminder of why you were banded in the first place. But speaking as someone who has been battling depression my whole life, PLEASE consider seeing a counselor. They might be able to help you get back on track with your weight loss and deal with your loss. Come to the forum for a pep-talk anytime!

bluegirly reacted to Sojourner in ? about getting the stomach flu
As per my surgeon, if you have a stomach virus, and you are going to vomit, there is really no way to stop it from happening. In my experience, anti-nausea medications will not stay down if you have a stomach virus.
I did come down with such a virus after being exposed to my son and caring for my 2 young grandsons last Fall. I vomited several times (tmi), and the following day went in for a partial unfill. I stayed with a liquid diet for several days and had no residual ill effects from the episode.
It is best to avoid vomiting if you are able, but sometimes it is not possible. Lower your chances of contracting the virus by washing your hands often and keeping them away from your face.

Oh my goodness, my heart breaks for you. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. ((hugs))
I have no great words of wisdom, I can only say you need to give yourself time to grieve. While you do, try to remember why you got the band in the first place and use that for a place to start over.
You can do this. We believe in you.

bluegirly reacted to GuyMontag in Wth did i do this for?
I'd like to say it gets easier, but it's surgery and the band is a pain in the ass. You may get used to it and you may not. If you want it out then get it out. I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. You gotta do what's right for you.

bluegirly reacted to catfish87 in Holidays :-/
Bear with me...as I tend to get longwinded. But this is how I deal with "them", now 4 years postop.
I just got done visiting the company nurse...yearly physical routine stuff, and there was a new nurse today, whom I'd never seen before.
She, LIKE ME, has "issues" with her weight if you will. And as shes writing stuff down...she goes, " I can't help but ask, how have you lost so much weight? I see you're down like over 130 lbs or so over the last several years".
And I thought.....do I go into this as though she really wants to know...or is she just being polite? She seemed interested... (this exact topic came up on here a couple days ago..with varied responses) I told her my "story"....exercise, eating less....and lapband surgery. She proceeds to look astonished.... "I've NEVER known ANYBODY that worked for." She knew this person or that person over the years that "it" didn't work for. Almost as though she didn't believe me.....at first.
I told her, FOR ME, it wasn't always easy...learning to live with my band. Me adjusting as much as the band.
So on to your question...
I've mentioned several times, if someone watched me eat now, they would probably not even know I had surgery....because I eat normally. But I think my definition of normal is different now. Thats why "IT" works. Don't stress the holidays...parties...funerals....vacations....etc. Those are normal, everyday things. Just like living with your band. Enjoy!

I think this post has gotten a little out of control. We are all fighting the same battle and we should all be respectful of everyone on this board. This forum can be an invaluable source of information but the final word should always come from your own surgeon. Instead of making attacks on each other, we should all be motivating and encouraging each other. Non-banded people may have the best intentions, but bandsters can really relate to exactly what you are going through. Please let's act like the adults we all are, and use each other to lean on instead of argue with.

Awesome!! And GOOD FOR YOU for not giving in, even though you were really into him. If he is only going to treat you right because you look a certain way, then he is not worth it!!!!! Put your energy into someone who is going to love you INSIDE and out!!!!

50 pounds is a huge deal! Try to stay positive! And we ALL need support....don't beat yourself up for needing your family. Some people on this board don't have families who support them, so WE have to support them! You are a step ahead for having people in your life who love you and want you to be healthy. Keep up the great work!

bluegirly reacted to Frederic in someone motivate me
When starting to exercise the thing to focus on is building a habit. Ignore anybody (including yourself) who says it's not worth exercising if you can't workout for at least X minutes. I started with 5 minutes of walking post surgery. 5 minutes was easy I could do that just walking around my house before getting in the shower. I did that for 5 days.
Then I walked 6 minutes for 6 days. That was easy it was just an extra minute.
The 7 minutes for 7 days.
I now run over 2 miles in the morning I've been running 28 minutes every morning for the last 24 days. In 4 more days I'll set my goal to be 29 minutes for the next 29 days. It's easy to add just 1 more minute especially if you pace how quickly you ramp up.
In the past my problem was it was easy to convince myself I don't have time for a 30 minute workout but by focusing on the habit my schedule has just naturally shifted a little but at a time. My showers are quicker, I get dressed faster, and I wake up just a few minutes earlier than I did a year ago.

I use my treadmill every morning. I watch all my trashy reality programs that my husband refuses to watch with me at night. It makes the time fly by and I actually look forward to exercising.
