SLEEVE VS BYPASS this is a personal decision in the beginning I was scared of having my intestines rearranged. Now I’m left with no choice!!! Even with my issues and recent complications I still don’t regret my sleeve. I never knew LIFE would happen the way it did AND didn’t know I’d be affected by GERD so terribly. I’ve wanted to be able to do this for a while and I thank God Bariatric Pal is STILL here 4 years later after my sleeve providing a community of release. Judgement or not it’s good to get it out! I hate a lot of text so I’ll try to get straight to the point lol HW-324 SW-312 LW-224 CW-250.3 Gastric Sleeve 11-6-2012 After my sleeve I was able to lose 100lbs in 10 months….Nov of 2013 my dad passed away from a sudden heart attack the day after his 60th birthday and at that time I fell into a SAD bad depression and instantly went from 224 to 236 and stayed there. I then had a divorce and my older sister passed away 9 months after my father to a heart attack as well. COMPLETELY DEVASTATED I was now at 258, I still decided I had to take my life back and I got back on track getting back down to 236. Fast fwd to 2014- July of 2015 a new relationship (got WAY 2 comfortable) and I ended up pregnant. Sadly having a miscarriage last year which has brought me to where I am now. After we lost the baby I was having horrible excruciating heart burn but no surgeon would give me a chance because I moved from Connecticut to South Florida they didn’t wanna mess with it. I finally found a surgeon who sent me for an UPPER G.I. on 11/8/16 to see that my sleeve is slightly twisted up top adding to the GERD and heartburn pain and he described it as “very big” and said almost looks like a normal stomach. The pain I feel is in my chest but also under my left breast and it is SHARP and ive avoided and cut out ALL trigger foods. Even with Water. It hurts.badly. I now have Cigna insurance whom requires nothing but a medically necessary letter and mental evaluation for revision surgery sleeve to bypass approval BUT I am still seeing a dietitian monthly and my last appointment is Dec 8th. We are submitting to insurance this Friday. HAD to get this out because seeing those xrays I knew something was wrong, I STILL DO NOT REGRET MY SLEEVE. I am thankful for this journey and how far I’ve come. And I know with the bypass I will be out of pain, my twisted sleeve will be fixed and I have confidence ill hit my goal!!! Anyone else looking into revision December of 2016? I have to share because NOT EVERYONE is vocal about their journey but I have nothing to hide. Im already bariatric For life!! People have been evil and critical but I choose to dismiss them because I will never be 324 again and that I have to be thankful for!

Im in a similar situation. I have not had surgery yet, as i will have my 2nd consult soon. I have gerd, have had it for years and when the surgeon and I discussed it he said, " well if you get reflux you always can convert to bypass". I was,a bit frustated with that comment and, I said, "No, at 58 years old im only doing this once". He said 1/3 of sleeve patients will still have gerd, and he has been seeing sleeve patients 3 to 4 years out with severe gerd and going the revision route because its very bad and happens daily. Had slight heartburn before my sleeve but nothing like this....I had an upper g.i. on Tuesday to find out the Fluid comes right back up and my sleeve has a slight twist in it I had a miscarriage last year and my gerd is now out of control. Submitting for bypass revision Nov 19th. I hope u feel better. I've taken allllll the medicines possible. I even went with natural remedies. Baking soda and apple cider vinegar to help. My new surgeon says I have Twisted sleeve slightly up top and massive heartburn. Upper g.i. Showed my sleeve to be very large and Fluid coming back up but luckily not all the way into the esophagus. I take omeperozole and I also use diluted apple cider vinegar, baking soda and alkta seltzer chewables. All the relief is only temporary and it's depressing the pain I'm in literally but don't let anyone discourage you because everyones body is completely different. Im just saying out of the 4 years post op last year it got the most intense when i got pregnant and had a miscarriage and has never been the same since. I love mine, I even use it for an alarm, it vibrates to wake me up. During the day, if I have less than 250 steps in an hour, it will vibrate to remind me to move. I work in an office and sometimes I do forget. My goal is 10,000 a day. I bought my Alta at Target. It was $129.00 and it's blue. That's the price I found too on Amazon. I will definitely love the reminder to move. I also have a desk job and get so involved sometimes then realize I've haven't moved for hours!! I have my upper g.i for Nov 8th but I called the hospital today looking for a sooner date. It's been a serious battle. I lost 100lbs and gained back 30 in the past 2 years between the death of my father and sister 9 months apart and a miscarriage and divorce life happened. But I never gave up I still workout and eat as clean as possible ugh I just know there's light at the end of the tunnel and I have to be grateful for the progress I've made and for Bariatric pal still being here 4 years later . My gerd is out of control and I'm 4 years sleeve post op. My r n y revision will be Nov or Dec this year. Even with fasting Water alone for 3 days the gerd is still there and it's too much medicine barely helps anymore !!! Sent from my Z981 using the BariatricPal App

I am from Connecticut but was sleeved 11.5.13 hw 324 current weight 238 I reached 224 and i just moved to pembroke pines florida. Should be at goal but I fell off track after my dad passed 3 months ago. Still working out and going strong tho I'm determined to reach goal!!!
