"The Institute of Medicine recommends that adults get a minimum of 0.8 grams of Protein for every kilogram of body weight per day to keep from slowly breaking down their own tissues [39]. That's about 8 grams of Protein for every 20 pounds of body weight."http://www.dsfacts.com/protein.html
Very interesting, this put me at a need for 120 grams
I was checking out a fellow members post about weight stall, http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html, incredibly informative and found this protien information.
They also talk about carbs, http://www.dsfacts.com/carbohydrates.html, if your curious

I actually asked why I had to do a 6month diet and I was told ... some insurance companies want to make sure that you are dedicated and also ...the main reason.... a lot of people want to get surgery right away and if they have to wait 6months they'll either say I'm just going to do it on my own or become self.pay. I was told it doesn't matter if I lose weight. Its just an insurance requirement and that's it

I was worried about weight gain on my six month pre-op as well. I gained five pounds. The NP in my surgeons office told me not to worry about it since those extra pounds will come off in the weeks before surgery (2 weeks low carb + 4 days clear liquids). She was right. I'm down six pounds with only two more days till surgery.
Sending good vibes & positive thoughts your way. YOU CAN DO IT!!

I lost 2 pounds on my 3 month medically supervised diet, and I didn't really try to lose those 2. I've lost over 100 pounds twice in my lifetime, so the ability to diet and exercise has never been the problem. The problem is maintaining after I hit goal. I could never do it without the sleeve, so I didn't worry about any pre-op weight loss. Now, I can diet and exercise without starving, and once I hit goal, I don't have to worry about gaining the same 100+ pounds back. You'll be fine. If you've never lost weight on your own before, I would recommend at least tracking your food in MFP and starting some form of a fitness routine, so you won't be so overwhelmed all at once with all of the changes. Good Luck!

I had to do a doctor diet, too before surgery. I ignored it and did what I always did...tried to eat healthy, exercise, and didn't beat myself up if I gave in to cravings at times. I lost about 7 pounds, and my surgery was approved. Forget that you're on that diet, but try adopting some of the behaviors you'll need for post-op. I think that's the best thing you can do for yourself, besides stop beating yourself up. It will be ok.

I did the same thing. I bought candy I don't like that way I won't be tempted. I like all the chocolatey, peanut buttery crap. I bought fruity stuff to hand out, kids aren't picky.
