Thanx for posting this. I'm having my op next Friday 12th and it's really helpful to know what might happen. Now I won't get anxious if I get the same thing.

that's great, keep up the good work,. had my surgery on 9/19/12 and ever since then I've been up and down with energy, was having sleep problems but that is getting better (thank god).
Feeling hungry though, hopefully it's only PMS bc i should be getting my period in a week or before :-(

Casein Protein? It's slow release. Also, during PMS your body needs extra calories (I read this in Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Strength)
As much as possible I would try to take everything in stride. Use a different type protein. They're supposed to stick with you longer; or are you still on clear liquids?
Slipping and sliding and getting back on track is going to be part of the journey, I guess. If you will accept that you are not superhuman and that being forgiving to yourself is going to be important, maybe you could shift your mental effort into self-forgiveness. I think that would be more productive than feeling terrible.
I'm not speaking from experience so possibly none of this will help. I haven't been to my cycle yet. But do be kind to yourself. About that part, I am sure.

I'm sorry about your grandmother but I'm so happy for you otherwise. Looking at your pic you started about where I'm starting and I'm really happy to see the sleeve working for you - even if it is in a shock collar kinda way which sometimes is what we need. I haven't been sleeved yet but I hope that when I am, I can be as successful as you.

I completely respect and understand where you're coming from. I workout doing organized sports- and most importantly I swim and play water polo, which are the #1 reccomended thing for all VSG and WLS patients to do because it's the easiest on the joints and best for recovery. I highly reccomend water aerobics to anyone wanting to get into working out, without overdoing it. All the gyms in the local area have a variety of aquatics classes for everyone of every shape and ability that increases the blood flow and gets yous moving. Walking I found is easier schedule wise for a lot of people, and like you said 3- 20 min walks is just as good as a 60 minute workout.... BUT IT'S STILL 60 minutes! The goal is to get your heart rate between 110 and 120 (which varies from person to person depending on health and weight etc).
And I was cleared for soft foods at week 3, I just went ahead and incorporated proteins (no other solids) such as chicken and steak in small amounts because I wasn't coming close to my needed calorie or protein intake. I do not encourage anyone to break their doctors orders, I however choose to incorporate protein 5 days early, I was cleared for full foods at 4 weeks.
I've always been proactive and aggressive when it comes to my weight. In fact I've been a serious athlete all my life, including when I was a soldier in the Army. Because of PCOS and insulin issue I've been losing my weight battle for years, but not from a lack of trying. I've always been in good shape, but my body just couldn't get in sync, which is why I became a VSG candidate as a light weight with a metabolic disorder. Everyone has there own journey, but I'm a firm believer that VSG is not a miracle cure, it is a tool. You have to use good common sense, listen to your body, eat healthy, but you must still workout. It's good for your skin, weight loss, and over all health. Don't go overboard, but changing your workout habits is just as important as changing your eating habbits post surgery.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I know it's heartbreaking. My grandmother died last year at the age of 95. She's in good hands now.

About 15 minutes after I posted this blog this morning I got the call that my grandmother passes away. My grandmother was the first person to hold me when I came into this world. On Sunday I had the previlege of holding her hand and telling her how much I loved her. At 9am est this morning she passed away quietly holding my grandfathers hand. She held out long enough to make it to their 60 year anniversary. She was just that damn good. Heaven's got another angel today. There just won't be another dame like her. While my heart is breaking, I'm so glad I could be with her this past week. I'm certainly jealous of the angels in heaven.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. You have definitely had a terrible week. Pray your month will get better. At least you are staying movitated and continuing to lose weight . I was sleeved 8/17 as well but have been in a stall for past couple of weeks. Scale wont budge but im feeling better. I have my good days and my bad regarding energy levels. Any way keep us posted on your progress.

4th day and feel more in control today, not as hungry and am not thinking about food. Had a very stressful day, my 80 year old mom is ill and had to call a doc and be there, but did'nt turn to food, another small hurdle over. I have my close friends praying for me and can tell that they are praying enabling me to stick to this very low cal diet. my bs went really low yesterday and i knew about it, but managed to eat before i went totally strange, lol. Each day is a day nearer, so glad i am not alone in this, :-)

So just adding in my two cents (nicely written blog entry I might add) that I have 1 rule when it comes to discussing weight loss with other people. THEY MUST approach the topic first. PERIOD. I will never offer my information, my experience, or journey with VSG unless someone ASKS ME how I did it, OR they start about how unhappy or miserable they are and don't know what to do- then I tell them, encourage them, and inform them. Walking up to someone, writting someone about such a personal topic without them asking for it is no different then walking up to someone with a same sex partner and expressing your religious or personal beliefs on them. If unwarranted- keep it to yourself. If asked for- then freely give. That's where I find the fault in all this.

I'm glad you found something that you like. As the GNC guy said, casein is a slow release protein and with our new system, protein absorption is one of our challenges. Confirm with the nutritionist on your medical team, but I would suggest you have this before bedtime, so it can be in your system while you sleep.
When you first wake and after your exercise, your body really needs a quicker source of protein to prevent the body from cannibalising itself. Whey is suggested for that.
