Hello Everyone,

I just recently got a surgery date for June 13,2012 for the gastric sleeve, I am so excited!! Very thankful my insurance will cover it. I have my pre-op appt next week. I have wrestled with my weight since high school I weighed 160-180 lbs. Then gained more weight after birth of my two sons and have steadily gained over the years.Working in nursing causes you to have some of the worst eating habits in the world, eating very fast and on the go. I have tried all types of diets and would get some small amount of weight loss 20-30 lbs only to regain it back. I decided after researching the sleeve that it seemed to be the best option for me. My family doesn't agree that wls is the best approach. In fact, if I would just eat a small portion and PUSH myself away from the table then I should lose weight at least that is their thought. I have always been a big boned gal and have been healthy , except two years ago started having trouble with high blood pressure so started on b/p med which then included two more meds- diuretic and potassium supplement. I have never been much on taking pills except for Advil which I cant seem to live without for my aching knees. Then last month I was recently diagnosed as a diabetic and placed on Metformin once a day, unfortunately I was only able to take the medicine for about 3 weeks, severe GI upset. I don't want to have to take insulin injections or have complications from diabetes. I wrote down all the pros and cons of the vsg and ultimately I don't want to continue to live like I have been with diabetes, hypertension, and joint pain. BUT I'M REALLY SCARED AS THE SURGERY DATE APPROACHES, I keep telling myself this is permanent ! I guess I'm afraid because I have failed so many times at other weight loss attempts, I have a killer sweet tooth and love those homemade comfort foods. I know I did this to myself and need to change, that is a painful realization. I started making some changes a few months ago like giving up sodas and candy, and trying to cook healthier meals at home. So far my husband and kids are enjoying what's on the menu. I just wonder after having the surgery does your sweet tooth diminish? Do you still have cravings for certain foods? I would really enjoy anyone's input on preparing to have surgery or anything else.
