Thanks, everyone. I did call my doc today and he OK'd these things for my diet. The chicken broth is nice as it's the one non-sweet thing allowed! Wrapping up Day 7 here and down 16 pounds.

Hi guys! I'm on Day 11 of a 15-day pre-op and I'm down 28 pounds - 6 before the start of the diet and 22 on the diet. I've exceeded my own expectations. Just realized today that I got my BMI down under 50, so now I'm "only" morbidly obese, not SUPER morbidly obese - LOL. I'm at 306 this morning and hoping, praying, to get to "twoderland" before surgery day, next Wednesday. I think I can, I think I can!

Day 2 of the pre-op diet. I actually started it a day early because I have a friend coming to town on Friday, and I wanted to get over the "hump" of the first 3 days that everyone says is the worst. Hope that's true!
I was freaking out yesterday because I thought the shakes tasted disgusting, but I am handling them OK now. Only had 2 yesterday, not the prescribed 3, which I know is not good, so it's 3 a day from here on out.
Boyfriend cooked his own stir-fry last night, and it smelled divine. Even a banana right now seems like a bacon cheeseburger. I will make it. I am an all-or-nothing girl, and I'm gonna rock this.

A patient's satisfaction and experience, as well as their success - however you want to quantify it (and I don't just mean the number on the scale) - all reflect on the doctor and the practice overall. The PA ought to know better than the be discouraging and negative and to upset you. We all know that weight loss is individual and that "results may vary," and that your success also encompasses how you feel emotionally and physically and your personal "non-scale victories" too.
All that said, they also work FOR YOU. You and/or your insurance company are paying big bucks so you can get the utmost in care and compassion. I reiterate what everyone has said: Talk to your doctor. It is your RIGHT to be seen by someone who acts professionally, kindly and who has your best interests in mind. If you feel that way about your doctor, ask to see him for fills. Have the receptionist make a note in your record that you will not see the PA, and confirm before every fill appointment that you'll be seeing the doc (or someone else) but not her.
If you're really feeling brave, now or in the future, you might even ask for an apology. You deserve one.
Don't let her derail you. You're doing great. Stay above "the noise" and keep your chin up.

I lost 26 pounds in 15 days of pre-op. I was on 3 daily Protein shakes only. Doc was impressed. The diet was tough, but totally worth it for safety and ease of surgery - as far as I'm concerned the weight loss is just a bonus.
    Got banded this morning.

Just got back from my appointment with my surgeon...from the moment I walked into the office I received nothing but
praise and compliments from all the office staff on how well I looked...there were 2 Med students there who came out to see what all the talk was about...
After an introduction and a little background story from the Nurse...one Med Student said "You're a runner! I can tell...you can always tell a runner a mile away...it shows!"
Back in Exam room with the Dr., weighed in...gained 1 lb in 6 months...he looked at me with a big smile and said what did you expect? You don't have an oz. of fat on your body...there's nothing left to loose!
Just keep on doing what you're doing...it definitely worked!
There is nothing else I can do for you, unless you think you're having a problem...then call me...
It's been 2 years....I wish I had done this sooner....to be honest, I never felt it would be this successful...sure, I knew I would loose weight...but for the Dr. (and everyone else there) to say
I look fantastic, and that I cannot possibly loose anymore???
It's also a big relief to know that everything I have been doing, everything I eat and drink, all the exercise...has been 100% SPOT ON!
And confirmed to keep right on doing everything the way I am now used to...
Words cannot describe how great I feel right now!!!!
NO MORE DIETS!!! NO MORE WORRYING ABOUT GAINING WEIGHT!
    Just live the new life!!!
To all the newbies out there that may be reading this, I just want to say that THIS THING DOES WORK!!! All THE WAY!

Wishing you success and fulfillment on your journey! I hope you are able to get banded if you decide that's what you want to do.
The surgery is excluded by my insurance as well (discrimination, if you ask me) but luckily I have very supportive parents and we were both in the position where they could pay half, and I could pay half, and we're getting it done that way. My surgery consult was last May, and after all these months, my surgery is on Wednesday!
I'm 29 and can't keep up with my boyfriend or friends. My therapist asked me last week what I want to achieve once the weight is off, and I said, "I don't want to be 'afraid' of physical exertion. I want to come up the subway stairs and not be winded. When I have 15 blocks to walk, I want to not want to take the bus instead. And I want to be able to hike with my brother" (he's an avid outdoorsman).
    All the best to you!

My husband tonight found a SD card laying around and had no idea what was on it. So, of course he naturally placed it in the disc drive and "poof" there was a picture of me I hadn't seen, amongst other pictures we forgot.
The picture was taken on my granddaughters Kindergarten graduation (2011) in June. I wasn't upset and I didn't cry. I just stared at the picture for a long while, remembering how I felt and how uncomfortable I was that day. The shirt was so pretty and barely fit. My black blazer didn't even close/button. I am sure the jeans were tight.
I may have looked happy on the outside, but I know on the inside I was miserable. I looked at how my stomache was bulging out of that pretty shirt and I couldn't even hide it!
Sometimes all it takes is an old former picture of yourself to say "look" how far I have come. I am not that same person anymore. I feel different, I look different. That puts everything into perspective, completely!
Today, that same black blazer is big on me and can fold the one side over to the other side of my body. That pretty blouse is loose, and those jeans are now too big to wear.

That is so sad. I think I would have asked to speak with my doctor, and ask her to repeat in front of them what she just said.
If nothing else, call your doctors office and tell them how you felt.

and any wls has pros and cons (as you well know and have stated the bad) plication a newer surgery and i signed forms waiving anything if it happens. apparently anyone getting any type surgery has to sign forms too. didnt you?
why? because i was advised of all aspects.i am an adult, i made my mind
up to have this surgery to aid the band.
why did i have this (dangerous thing ms msaui)...because i was over 336 pounds..i couldnt walk far and going potty was getting hard...i risked it and i am down 94 pounds in 7 months
this ill conceived and dangerous thing is saving my life

This Girl Is Losing It reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Unofficial Pre-Op Dieting Struggles
I was the same way before surgery. I didn't have any pre-op diet to follow but I was told it might be a good idea to start eating right anyway. I failed. Miserably. Like you, it was like some horrible food demon just took over me and I swear I ate everything in site. In retrospect, I think I felt like being about to be banded, I was going to have to give up everything I loved, so I felt this need to binge out while I still could.
For me, actually getting banded and having to follow the post op diet changed that. In a way, I traded addictions but in a good way. I saw the scale start to slowly go down and I was like "oh ok, this is kinda cool!" Then the more the scale went down, the bigger the high and the more I was driven to keep at it. As clothes got smaller and I got braver trying old favorite foods in smaller portions, I thought "Ok this flat out rocks!!" I finally realized I didn't have to give up anything, just enjoy it moderation, and I'd still lose weight.
The whole thing is a huge learning process, not only about the band, but about ourselves. For as much as my body has changed over the last year, my mind has changed tenfold more.
Be patient with yourself. At least you're trying, and as long as you're trying, you're not failing. It'll get a lot easier once you're banded and not pre-occupied by food due to hunger and deprivation.
