I love the show and love seeing how the people end up. I do think Jillian is a bully, a lot of the time. I know I wouldn't want her to be my trainer.
Rachel did go over board to win the money. But then she was a swimmer, so maybe this weight is normal for her younger self.

i have the lap band/plication and have lost 156 pounds...so any WLS can and does work.....i feel the person is responsible for whatever they choose to work.....

Good luck with your new journey. I don't recall which WLS you're having. I got the band right before I was 62. The best thing I ever did. I wish I knew about it many years ago.

Edward, my husband and I were sleeved 2 months ago (10 years of looking at scary WLS). He was 320 lbs with diabetes, HBP, sleep apnea, heart stent, back problems. He was very afraid because of his health. He is 65. I was scared he would die if he did not have the surgery. Two months since surgery now, he is down to 273 (post op and pre op), and we are better mentally and physically. Wish we could have had surgery 10 years back but he wanted them t perfect it before he let them operate on him. God Bless. The longer you wait the worse it gets. Read and read more on this site, you will learn everythng!

My oldest brother once went to a meeting/talk about dealing with old age parents. The speaker said that to keep the mind going, math helps. My mother would take 3 packages of the same item and in her head would tell which size to buy. It was like it happened over night. She fell and then went back home and that was over 4 years ago. She took care of and spoiled my brother who is mentally challenged. He is now our problem. He is mentally around 12, which when you see others, that is great. When he was 8 months he got the measles and it destroyed 1/2 his brain.
I hope I am never like this when I get that age.

my mother use to say when she was around 85 that she, my father and brother should go on a bus and let the bus go over the cliff. My SIL added her father (he is now 96)to the list and my husband added his mother (90) to the list. It is funny but not funny.

I wonder if this might change as the baby boomers who are experiencing these terrible end of life scenarios for their parents ultimately become like their parents. If at 50 or 60ish, you see what the folks are going thru, would you likely look to make sure this doesn't happen to you?
I don't know if this means making sure someone will follow your wishes, or if we start to legislate ways to end life before the quality is all gone. Interesting topic but so sorry it's happening to you personally Arlene.

I have had the same thought -- but then I think about the people who would have to risk their lives just to recover the vehicle from the bottom of the cliff
I don't want to be morbid, but you might find interesting the story of Martin Manley. I applaud his philosophy and what he did is certainly very...well, thought provoking. Here's an article about him: http://news.msn.com/us/martin-manley-details-suicide-sets-off-treasure-hunt
Even now after all these months, his website gets so many hits that you can't usually get to it. But there is a mirror site that was set up (the link is in the article but here it is too: http://www.zeroshare.info/ )
It's really fascinating...and like I said, thought -provoking. He's kind of a hero I think. Not sure if I agree 100% with every thing he said/ did....but what he did he thoroughly thought out and was extremely practical about and ... wow.
Please don't anyone jump on me if you disagree with the subject of the article/website. I am merely sharing access to information.
    And much love.

My mother is the same way. It is sad. I ask my Dad how he keeps doing it day after day. He said because he remembers when...when she was beautiful, when she would smile etc., and this will be a short time until they will both be whole again.

Tough topic to address, but my brother has voiced something similar. My dad passed away at 87 this past May from colon cancer that spread to his lungs. He was quite the tough cookie & pretty much "healthy" up until the very end.
Dad used to take care of mom (take her to Dr appointments all the time (even if she didn't need to go), made her take her meds, etc..). Mom is 85 & has dementia. She recognizes everyone but is just very forgetful & is constantly losing stuff. She doesn't cook, feels she can live on coffee & cookies, or Ensure. She's quite frail but can still get around the house (albeit very slowly). She lives alone now but has a home health care aide that stays with her 5 days a week, 4 hours a day. Her helper is amazing & we adore her. I also help take care of mom. Stop by almost daily, do her shopping & sometimes even cook. I think I'm the only way that can "make" her eat, though very minimally.
After almost 60 years of marriage, mom misses dad terribly (as do we) & doesn't feel like going on some times. She barely eats, only if "I" make something & make her eat. She doesn't want to move into a home either. She barely wants to go outside of the house, so she just exists in the home, waling around day in / day out moving things around over & over again to the point that we are constantly looking for things for her.
My brother & I promised her (and dad) that we would keep her in her home as long as possible because she felt strongly, and quite frankly, they (government) just take all her money & all proceeds from the sale of her home to take care of her. We find that very frustrating because she loses everything.
I digress. My brother feels she is miserable & doesn't want to go on so why should she? It's a very personal, very difficult topic. Why can't we all pass peacefully at, let's say, 90? A good age, hopefully well-lived, and well-loved.

You're doing great and look super. Kim K was on JKL last night. her ass is massive and who ever dresses her needs to be fired. Her ass was too large and gross for her body hugging outfit with the belly hanging out.

I feel so lucky to have my band -- that it was available to me. Sometimes I feel like bands are being phased out, that sleeves and other surgeries have less followup care and more profit. I feel like I may have gotten my band just in time. Well, except for the wishing I had done it a long time ago. But I didn't know about WLS and I needed to have my BMI up enough for insurance to pay. That was all so complicated and I'm grateful it's all behind me. The one day at a time with the band is very manageable now. Here's to a new day of healthy eating.....

It is already being tested in the US. I saw this back in October when I was researching surgeons. At first I thought it would be great but then I read no not for sustained weight loss! However, what it will be used for is to help people who are too overweight for weight loss surgery to lose their weight safely in order to undergo the surgery that they need. Also, used for people who may only have 20 lbs to lose! Not everyone is a candidate for WLS...some people are still very overweight but don't fit the correct BMI! I had to hit 233 lbs before I was eligible for the band and for insurance to cover it! It does not have to be removed at the end of 3 months. It is what's based on what your dr tells you. Yes, I think it's a little bit stupid but surgery isnt for everyone.

Doesn't sound like either of these devices, the tongue patch or the balloon, do anything to teach good eating habits so when they are removed won't the people regain any weight loss?
Sounds like the only thing guaranteed to be permanently loss is money.

You did great and I am so the same way. The gym where I go, I haven't been in over 2 months, bad me, I go around 1-2 pm and the place is empty. I do the bike and some machines only. My bad knees and back can't do treadmills or elliptical.
My son said at the gym to wear heavy clothes with a hoodie on so you sweat. I don't do that but have seen many people doing it.
    Enjoy yourself.
One question to everyone-why do gym have walls and walls of mirrors????

Happy New Year and good luck. We all choose WLS because we all have an eating problem. Each one of has it a little different than the other person. Last week my MIL asked how I got fat because I am a very plain eater, no salad dressing, no extras, never had mayo, mustard etc. I loved fried foods. I could eat a large pizza everyday. I gave up fried foods except for maybe 1-3 fries from my husband's plate. I loved bagels and lox or french toast for breakfast, now just protein shakes. I only have crusty breads in restaurants.
I have made a lot of great changes and still do. I am far from perfect but over eating gets stuck and I hate the feeling. I have never thrown up, which is wonderful.
Maybe see your dietitian before surgery or talk to someone in the WL field about your family eatings.

Congratulations on your journey. After 1 1/2 years of having the band, I still see fat me. My clothes are no longer plus size but I see huge me.
I was watching the Biggest Loser last night, it was make over night. Amazing when you clean up people and get them out of work out clothes how great they looked.
Keep up the great work. Maybe you can talk to someone at the doctor's office about still seeing the heavier version of you.
