Woke up this morning feeling much, much better. ( and I didn't feel horrible to begin with ). I am amazed at the difference. I have only taken 1/2 dose of pain medication both nights before bed so I was sure to sleep comfortably. My gas is subsiding. Who would have thought I would be so excited to burp and fart? Lmao! But when I fart or burp I sure feel good. I was able to drink some Protein drink this morning and Water as well.
I will certainly keep everyone updated. I hope my posts are helpful to someone. :-)

Well ladies and gentlemen I had my surgery Monday morning at 10 AM. Monday was most certainly a blur as i was on pain medication and in and out of sleep most of the day and night. I was pretty nauseous from the anesthesia, Otherwise I wasn't in that much pain.
The gas does suck but it's not killing me as most people have felt. Tuesday I got up and walked around a lot and went to the bathroom a lot. I had my x-ray and my leak test late morning time. The results of those did not come back until late afternoon. I passed everything with flying colors. My nurses were fantastic the entire time I was there and I was very grateful that the day nurse I had actually had this done back in October. She was instrumental in letting me know how I was going to feel.
I was released last night from hospital around 6 PM and was driven home by my mother. My husband made sure to get my pain medication my gas medication filled last night right away. Around midnight I did take some liquid hydrocodone to help me sleep. I have not taken any pain medicine since.
I am not having any problems sleeping on my side like a lot of people had indicated they did. I really can lay anyway I want pretty comfortably. I walked a lot today and showered. I have been constantly drinking Water with a little bit of Protein shake in between without any issues.
Right now I'm looking forward to having all the anesthesia out of my system so I can feel a bit better. My incision sites are not bothering me and nothing really hurts enough to put me to tears. Over all I would say this has been fairly easy in comparison to some of the stories that I have read in this forum.
I look forward to getting better and better each day and starting this journey. My pangs I am feeling right now are either hunger or gas I'm not sure but probably gas. Good luck to all the new people who've just been through surgery and good luck to all the people who are about to go through surgery. Have a positive attitude and it will all be good.

Are you asking why you were "allowed" to take the big sips but now you're not?
If so, it's because the bigger sips allow the test to be done effectively - which is what you want - to see if there are leaks. However, the small sips are to protect your staple line and prevent a leak from developing.

If you can gulp it won't hurt you It's just that 90% of us gulp and feel intense pain so we are told not to do it. My doc said drink whatever feels comfortable for you. For me it took months to be able to drink even a larger swig. For others they can do it from the start.

I'm in Scotland, UK - and the waiting lists are crazy - they kept saying that they had other priorities, and other areas had to be done first - they only had slots for X amount per financial year.. I have to say though, that despite the wait - it has been worth it. You won't regret your decision!

"how long after surgery did you wake up?"
holy moly girlfriend - i'm still not awake sorry kiddo, couldn't resist!!!
my surgery lasted about 90 minutes
was in room after a couple of hours in recovery
very groggy for a few hours, slept, did get up to walk - very important, helps get rid of gas you possibly/probably might have.
i see you have WLS on 12/10/12 - only about one week to go!!!! I know your nervous, scared, all normal feelings - its ok, but.............
take it slow after WLS - you have gone through major tummy surgery - be calm, rest, things will gradually happen and get better
you will start to drink more and more, and continue/start your long wonderful journey into sleeveland
everyone reacts to anesthesia differently (you'll learn all sleevers act differently to weight loss, time period to weight amount and lots of other things
the one thing we all have in common is that we are all different
after WLS you will be starting your brand new life of health and happiness
btw - you had a c-section, had some pain - look at the great life time results you have - you'll get those wonderful results with the sleeve too as long as you follow the sleeve 101 handbook
also, i see you have diabetes, many people get rid of or improve their diabetes status - wish you the best with that
since WLS 12/15/11 no more diabetes meds/insulin for me (high blood pressure and CPAP gone too)
    WooHoo
    good luck with WLS
    speedy recovery
    see you around the block

I quit soda at the beginning of October cold turkey! Probably not the smartest thing to do considering my miserable headaches and 'tude I had! Just ask my husband. Haha! But I'm sure flag I did it and I lost SIX pounds the two weeks after quitting. The impending surgery is very exciting! Good luck to you. ????

Omg!!! It's only 50 days until my surgery in Puerto Vallarta, MX. It seems like forever, yet so close!!! I am so excited, yet crazy anxious....trying to start getting myself together. I have stopped drinking dr. Pepper as of last week. Dealing with sugar and caffeine withdrawal , but glad to be doing it to be able to have surgery. I just wanna do this right this time. I wanna lose it and keep it off. I know it won't be easy, but I am so ready for it.

My surgery has been scheduled for January 30th. The doctors office originally wanted me to have surgery on December 17th but I wanted to wait until the new year for insurance purposes. Now my deductible will be paid in full for the rest of the year. I'm very excited and have told the few people I feel comfortable telling for now. Can't wait to read all the success stories. Good luck!

All along my ultimate goal was to wear skinny jeans (and not look like a stuffed sausage) with a pair of tall boots. One could dream, right? Well, I bought the tall boots a few weeks ago thinking and hoping that soon I would find a pair of jeans that might just fit inside them.
Tonight I decided to give it a go. I took a size 14 and a size 12 back (with the boots in hand). Size 14...way too big. Size 12...still too big! What in the world?!
Who walked out with a size 10 pair of skinny jeans that look amazing in my tall boots?!? That would be MEEEE!!!!
There is no food on this earth that tastes as good as this victory!!!

Had surgery this morning. Please excuse any typos as this is being typed under the influence of morphine. So, the incision pain? Barely anything. Only a little sore when changing positions. But the gas???? Oh holy crap!!!! MISERABLE!!!!! I considered myself prepared for it by reading so many threads about it. I grossly underestimated the pain (for me anyway). Advice to future sleevers.... walk, walk, walk. It really does help. Now I'm off for a nap!!!

ashiashley reacted to bakawaka in Pre-Op Liquid Diet Experiences, Suggestions, Tips
For anyone who might find it helpful, here are some tips I have on the pre-op liquid diet, which I am following for one month.
    (1) My favorite product is Bariatric Advantage shakes, which have to be mixed in a blender at home. I'm permitted to put fruit into them and my favorite is a banana. I use fat-free/low-fat soy milk or almond milk instead of skim milk or Water. It does help to add some ice. The fruit can be frozen. I have a Vitamix blender, which can handle anything put into it. Sometimes I mix in soft tofu. A blender is going to be an important part of a post-op life, so I recommend investing in a very good blender that will not burn out quickly. There are alternatives to Vitamix (but i cannot remember the names).
    (2) I cannot take a blender to work. So I use ENSURE and/or GNC Total Lean shakes. When I am traveling, I find it easier to find ENSURE in a drug store. SlimFast is another alternative.
    (3) When I drink a Protein Shake by itself, I am hungry after about 2 1/2 hours. So I drink another! I am permitted up to 6 per day. I never let myself feel hungry - that way I don't crave food solid food.< /p>
    (4) Inbetween shakes, I find chicken bouillion in a cup - hot - to drink - to be helpful in managing hunger. It is great to have something savory instead of all of the sweet Protein Shakes.< /p>
    (5) I did order the vegetable Soup from Bariatric Advantage and use that inbetween Protein shakes.
    (6) I use FitnessPal to track calories. I try to stay at 1300-1500 calories per day. I am not interested in rapid weight loss pre-op. The goal is to shrink the liver. I am losing a bit of weight. But I prefer to lose it slowly.
    (7) I have to drink a lot of water. The protein shakes make me very thirsty.
    (8) The first three days I had headaches - now they are gone. I have 17 more days of this liquid diet, then surgery. Of course, then I start ANOTHER liquid diet.
    (9) I view the pre-op liquid diet as good preparation for a new lifestyle - changing my relationship with food. Not every moment is fun. But I am convinced that the discipline of the diet is a good preparation for a new post-surgery relationship with food.
I plan to use protein shakes occasionally for convenience for the rest of my life - particularly for Breakfast.< /p>
I am not an employee of any company that produces or is affiliated with any weight-loss products, protein shakes, tofu companies, Vitamin manufacturers, blender manufacturers, food production, etc. I'm simply a consumer of these items.
