I gained twenty between the icu and surgery center it's one week and it's still not all gone

I can't walk alone because the Valium is turning me into a zombie. Aside from dr appts I can't leave the house for at least six weeks. I am now officially a drug addled hermit, locked up in room six (we live in an old hotel). 100 years ago it was a women's hospital. They locked them up in the rooms and fed them opium. My how things have not changed!

Laying in bed for a week makes your butt hurt!

I'll race you to see who gets over their complications sooner! At least we will have something to do lol.

I have a different take on this since having surgery last week. I wasn't going to tell anyone but my immediate family but in the end I did tell my closest friends and now will tell everyone as I basically have no choice. I felt I couldn't lie to my friends and now that I an basically bed ridden for six weeks due to complications, I'd rather just tell the truth.

My preop was just to stay below 40 g carbs a day...which works out to steak and eight glasses of wine (more if it's a dry brute champ) . Kinda reminded me of the red wine and jelly belly diet.....no fat . heh heh.

Lmao...the day before surgery I was on a beach drinking champs and munching on cheese (which was actually on my preop diet). I like the way you think!

Bethany I have different issues but swelling is one of them. Today they gave me Valium and liquid ibuprofen because they feel the benefits will out weigh the risks. I was able to eat a few ounces of yoghurt today and got in six ounces of water for the first time. You might ask about it.

I was in the ER last nightt for the same thing only I was cleared (my side effects of misery and pain are related to internal bleeding). I'm glad they found your problem as they can be life threatening. How long does this fuss up your recovery?

Liz....I was told champs would be ok after six months to a year. Not a lot, but it's not 100% no no in your future . (I collect wine....this mattered to me lol)

I had internal bleeding along the staple line. So now I have an abdominal cavity full of lose blood .

After a cat scan and MRI I am being sent home to recuperate in my bed....for likely at least six weeks! The spasms will continue until the blood has worked itself out of my body. I have a huge bag of pain killers, muscle relaxers and anti inflammatory Meds. There is about a 1 in 400 chance of this happening in the surgery apparently. I would agree that thisnt to scared anyone away, but to warn you that even the easy clients like myself can have complications so be prepared! And for gods sake don't have this happen to you!

Honestly, I'm one week out and have spent two days in icu and been to the ER twice. I am in constant pain and can not take care of my son (6). I had internal bleeding with the surgery and had to have blood transfusions. Last night as they were scanning me for blood clots I told my husband that I feel so irresponsible for having done this to myself. I am low bmi with no complicating factors. Everyone kept saying that I would be the poster child for the long term benefits of the sleeve. What happened to me is not uncommon. When I was in the icu there was another woman from a diff surgery center with the same issues as me. I'm checking back into the hospital today...honestly, I am not sure I will ever be able to say it was worth it. . If there is one thing you can take from my story, please be more prepared than you think you need to be. If I didn't have a strong network of help around me I don't know what this would have done to my baby boy.

When does the gas pain stop? I know mine is supposed to be worse because of the internal bleeding but sheesh.....I ended up in the ER last night because the pain was mimicking a stroke! Is anyone feeling better yet? I'm literally unable to be with my family and can't care for my son at six days out!

Ok honey....I am 5' tall and have maintained 110 for years (not the last ten) and I never never never fit into a sample size even when I could wear a size 2! At that weight I am a 0/2 in high end designer cloths and a 4/6 in things like the gap etc. so, I never really look at size much because I know that even at my norm size is a number from a factory, not a real figure to hang your hat on. But....if you really want to meet that goal I can guarantee you can do it, but it won't be cheap. Go to a store that sells "not your daughters jeans". If you are in a 14 now you should try on a ten or smaller...no I'm not kidding . They are actually a great investment because they fit very flattering and you will meet your magic size .

I just came home from a bad surgery experience and have gained 18lbs in 4 days. My mom helped me up the stairs and told me I was beautiful and she was proud of how strong I am. I think she's gonna need to adopt you honey .

Tonight I can't sleep because of chest pain and gas. I'm scared to death I have a leak issue . I guess I need to take the Pepcid and see if that helps. Gad what have I done to myself .

How much water and protein are y'all getting in? I'm at 23 oz today which is a total failure but I feel like I've worked my arse off! I might have gotten 20g of protein (included in my liquids btw). 64 and 60? Geeze I don't know how that's going to happen!

Just be prepared. Excluding high risk patients ten percent of patients have complications. My last nurse had taken care of a gal much like me the week before from the same clinic and another from a different doctor at their hospital. The pain was literally more than I've ever experienced and I have a very high threshold, but that aside, if I didn't have a huge network of help I dont know where I would be today. I am five days out and can it care for my six year old son, nor myself frankly. My husband stayed with me so he had five nights of hotel and eating out. He had to move meetings etc, which he can do because he's the boss, but not everyone has that luxury. I have a nanny who dropped everything to take care of my son the extra 72 hours I was away so that his life wouldn't be too disrupted and my mother has been spending days with me so my husband can work. Prepare for that scenario and you should be fine, but remember that there is a ten percent or more chance that your surgery might be harder to recover from and you'll be in much better shape afterwards. I wish someone had told me this .
