jennlhp got a reaction from A Sleeve4me in Sleeved 8/24
So was the surgery terrible? I'm looking for reassurance (hopefully). I'm so scared. And to top it off, a poor woman posted a horror story on my wall, so I'm even more freaked out now.

My fears were overwhelming before my surgery, But then I thought about the regret of staying at my current weight (or even worse, continually gaining). If you are anything like me, the weight issues were much more than just some extra baggage. It was also affecting my overall health.
Since my surgery, the weight loss has been a gift. It's only been 2 months and many of my medical issues are now reversing themselves (already). And it's only going to get better.
Everyone has a different story. Mine is that I had to choose between being physically unable to live a normal life and eventually be wheelchair bound, or get my life back in control and do something about it.
This was the best decision I could have made.
Keeping good thoughts for you... good luck.

I was sleeved 8/17. It really was easier than I thought it could ever be. Keep up on your pain meds, follow dr's orders, and you will have an awesome chances of having a super easy surgery! Be calm and know you're making the best choice for YOU!

well I'm only 7 days post op today but I still
would do it again. I had a lot of nausea on day 1-2. no real pain just muscle soreness. I've lost 15lbs my first week.

Yes. First few weeks I instantly regretted my decision because I mourned food. 6 mod post op, best thing I've ever done. You're giving yourself the opportunity of a whole new life. Embrace it!

I am 1 week out down 17 pounds since surgery. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Don't worry complications dont happen often put your faith in your doctor he knows what he is doing you have more of a chance dying from complications with your health and being heavy than with this surgery so the benifits outweigh the risks :-) you will do fine mama.

Totally normal and everyone goes through it. One thing I found that helped me through it was listing all the things I hated about being overweight (a very long list!) and all the reasons I wanted to get to a healthier weight and the things that would be great about being a healthy weight, like being able to shop for regular sizes, keeping up with my kids, being ALIVE to see my kids graduate highschool, college, get married, have grandchildren, etc. You get the idea. Whenever I would have second thoughts or get really nervous I would review my list. The list was also really helpful post-op during the first week when I was struggling a bit and wondering why I did this to myself.
I also spent a lot of time looking at before and after photos of people who had the surgery. Not only was it inspiring, it helped to get me excited about it.
The surgery is surprisingly easy for most. If you are worried about how your life will change afterward, I can honestly say that I do not miss eating what I want nearly as much as I LOVE the transformation of my body, my confidence, my energy and more.... and that is only two months in!

jennlhp reacted to Michele T in Date Set! Now Im Freaking Out! Help!
Best advice. Stay in today. Make a list of all the things you'll need before and after surgery. Take care of any big projects around your home. We recently repainted and I worked really hard to get the house back together before surgery because I did not want to hurt myself doing things I shouldn't be doing afterwards. Don't over buy too much of anything because you may not need and your taste buds may change. Breathe, stay in the moment and relish this new beginning right around the corner.
    CONGRATS!

Don't be. I am sure you thought a lot before come with decision to do this surgery. so the date only give us the light at the end of the tunnel.
when my doctor gave me the date at my first appointment I freak out too. but now I regret that I didn't ask for earlier date
    P.S. btw I am a mother of 3 kids as well ( 7 and 3,3)

Jenn, that's great, you are that much closer to a new life. Think positive and use this time to buy what you will need after surgery. It's so much better to have it all there when you need it. Buy some great reading material and never forget that the healing period after surgery is temporary and for that period of time devote yourself to giving yourself and your body what it needs. Best of luck to you

@otrsleever. I don't think she meant "normal" like being able to consume large amounts of food anymore. Im thinking she means like not having pain, or getting headaches, or having nausea, etc. You probably read ino her question more than she was asking.

Well I am at 5 1/2 months out and doing great!! No problems so far, no vomiting so far!! scale is moving at the pace I wanted so as to not have too much loose skin! I have a little bit but I am old - lol - well not really old, just turned 51 Thursday!! Feeling so fabulous, almost like I am 35 again!! I would do this again and have no regrets other than of course I didn't do it 10 years ago!
My favorite part of my whole journey is that I have kicked all diabetes and blood pressure meds and no longer use a sleep apnea device!! My diabetes A1C has been 5.7% the last two checks!!
I am not a work out freak but I do exercise everyday by walking. Sometimes I am frolicking (lol) in the ocean or swimming in a pool or even roller skating!!
I thank God everyday for this procedure!!
I know I don't post much on here anymore, occasionally I stop in, but that doesn't mean I don't care, just busy with life! If you have questions feel free to personal message me and I will chat with you!
God bless you all and check out my before and after album in my profile under Gallery if you want!!

Thanks! I'm 95% sure I'm moving forward with it. Tomorrow my surgeon is letting me meet with his monthly support group to ask many people who've had it any questions. It will be the best thing for me in the long run. I just wish it was tomorrow so I don't have more time to think and read this site.....LOL!
