Happy Snaps From The Surgeon

Happy Snaps From The Surgeon
My dr gave my 3 big a4 glossy prints of pictures he took while he was operating. The first was of my new stomach with the bougie still in, the second was of the part of my stomach he removed, that he had filled with saline to show me how big it was, and the third was of my new stomach all sewn nice and tight into its new home with surrounding tissue. He was really very proud as he was explaining them to me. I felt reassured that he took so much pride in his work that he wanted to share it with me. I really liked the pics and have kept them. All the nurses had a look at them. Gave me a bit of an insight into how it all happens. It's not often I'm happy to have my photo taken, but these I didn't mind. Anybody else got happy snaps after surgery?

Can You Believe This? Another Reason I Can't Wait For The Sleeve!
My 2nd last day of work before surgery I was stopped by a woman I didn't know who said "oh, I thought you had the baby?!" to which I replied "I was never pregnant" with a very offended look on my face. I ran to tell all my colleagues how rude she was, it gives me the best excuse to come back to work skinnier and to lose more weight without raising suspicion. No1 at work knows about my surgery. When I go back, if anybody asked about the weight loss I'll just ask if I still look pregnant.

5 Day Post Op 23 Pounds Weigh Loss
I've gone from 204 to 180 in 7 days. Im not worried, I'm cheering!!!! I'm doing everything they say to do, so long as you keep your water up and do the protein thing, embrace it.

Am I Alone!?!?!
My surgery was 13 August too, I avoided watching tv for a few days as I was scared I'd want the food advertised, I found quickly that my mind was saying "that looks nice" and that's it. I didn't want it, I'm having to force myself to take the protein shakes and soups. I just don't want them. No mourning here.

Youngster Bandster??
I've just turned 25 and am 5ft 4, weighing 210lb. I'm having surgery next month. My mum is very over weight but won't do anything about it. I see how much she struggles with life at the moment, but she didn't get to that size until she was in her late 40's. She lived a great life and then got big. I missed the great life bit and just got big. Hoping to live a bit more after the surgery.

Possibly Dumb Question
I do have a coffee shop quite close to the school that I can stop at if I need to. 2 days After my appendectomy last year, my ex dragged me around Ikea for 3 hours. He thought he would need to call an ambulance by the end of it. I know not to push myself that hard again.

Possibly Dumb Question
My surgeon advised me not to dive for a few days after surgery, at least until I'm off tge pain meds. I currently walk my daughter 1 mile, 1.6km to school each morning, then I obviously walk another 1.6km home on my own. Walking is good for relieving gas pains. Mummies recover from surgery better while children are at school and not at home wanting things (proven fact). I won't be allowed to drive her to school that first week post op. Surgery is on Monday, home on Tuesday, do you think Wednesday is unrealistic to be walking that far? Walking at a 6year olds pace is only just faster than walking backwards so I won't be traveling at any real speed, I'm just worried about the distance. Any suggestions?

Banned With Children.
I'm wondering the same thing. I have a 6 year old that I will need to get to and from school and generally tend to. She is actually tge reason I'm getting this done. I'm tired of being out of breath just from reading stories aloud.

Should I Change Surgeon Only Weeks Before Surgery Date?
My dr was the opposite. I was leaning much further towards the sleeve, which he said he would be happy to do if thats what I wanted (he does approx 40% sleeves to 60% bands) but told me all the positives of the band and said how much better it would be for me. I trusted him and his recommendation. It comes down to trust. He felt that even though I qualified for the sleeve, it was too drastic for a 25 year old who wants to have more children.

Vacationing With People Who Don't Know
I know it's a lie. I know you shouldn't lie to your friends, but dammit, this is what I would do and you can do whatever you like with it. Before the next big cook up, like, right before, spend 15 minutes in the bathroom and go and lie down after. Tell them that you must have had a reaction to the rich food + the sun and the travel and you're just feeling run down. You just fix yourself something to eat and eat with them but don't eat what they're eating. You want to relax and enjoy your holiday and you're just not feeling very hungry at the moment. This is what I would do. I hope you find some tactics that work for you.

Meals For 1
I know exactly how you feel. I live on my own with my 6 year old who is practically malnourished she eats so little (not really, but I never once forced her to clean her plate and she stops eating when she's full) so I'm pretty much just cooking for myself. My butcher does "singles" packs. It's a couple of steaks, a couple of sausages, some diced meat, some ground meat and some chicken pieces. You can choose if you want lamb beef or pork and if you want him to trim all the fat off. It's good for some variety. I'll make a small casserol, marinade the steak to make it ultra tender, make spag Bol, and curried sausages or something like that. You only make a small meal and there is little waste and you're not eating the same frozen meal 5 nights in a row.

Sharp Pains!
I am being banded in just under a month, but had my appendix out less than a year ago using the same laproscopic technique. I remember feeling the worst pain, not from where my appendix was, but from my belly button, and although the pain went away, it was the only area of discomfort for some time. All the other scars have faded and gone but that one is still bright and raised and when it's cold it gets mega itchy. I'm hoping the lap band surgeon can use the same area so I don't have 2 scars, but at leSt I'm prepared for what it will feel like.

When You Get To Your Goal Weight, How Do You Plan To Reward Your Self??

Liquid Diet Pre And Post Surgery
For your health, safety and wellbeing before and after surgery, I pray that your dr is correct. Not just with diet but with after care, choice of anesthetist, placement of the actual band, etc. I know this doesn't answer your original question, but if your dr has given you any reason at all to doubt their ability, listen to your gut. Find a dr who you have faith in. Your life, and quality of it, is worth more than loyalty.

When You Get To Your Goal Weight, How Do You Plan To Reward Your Self??
I'm in Australia and my daughter's dance school is planning a US trip to dance at Disneyland over the Christmas holidays 2013/2014. I'm going to be skinny and go on every single ride with her, not need a seatbelt extension on the plane and be comfortable for the 14 hour flight. Can't wait.

Steri Stips Allergy
As anybody else suffered an obscene allergy to steri strips? When I had my appendix out I had 3 small incisions that were sealed with them and all became so sore, red and inflamed within 24 hours. I'd like to say it blistered but it was moss like welts as they weren't fluid filled. Most horrible itchy pain ever. I'm hoping the dr can use traditional sutures instead of the dressings. Has anybody else had a reaction or been closed with something otter than the strips? I'm assuming that suturing is the only alternative but I'm learning so much here I could be wrong.

When Were You Ready?
In feb this year I bought a boxer x border collie puppy to motivate me to exercise and lose weight. I knew I had to because my work uniform was getting too tight and I refused to ask for a larger size (stuborness, embarrassment and denial). I walked that puppy 5km every single day for 4 months without losing a single pound. I realized that I am quite fit and can now jog with her, but my weight problem was not associated with a lack of exercise, it was to do with food. I find it hard to walk that distance, not because I'm out of breath, but because my ankles and knees ache. My feet swell up. My back hurts. IM CARRYING TOO MANY DARN KILOGRAMS!!! I got the dog as a motivational tool. That didn't work, so I'm trying another tool. Anybody want a puppy??? I'm joking. I can't wait to be able to run on cycle with her running next to me and me able to keep up with her.

Healthy Versions Of "bad" Foods
I just made the spaghetti with turkey instead of beef, AMAZING!!! my daughter couldn't even tell the difference. I put a couple of tablespoons of red wine in, do you think that would be detrimental once I'm banded?

Vacationing With People Who Don't Know
If in doubt, you can always fall back on irritable bowel syndrome. A flare up can mean that you have to stay away from certain foods or you'll be on the loo for hours, will explain stomach cramps (if you're still a little tender), and people don't ask many questions about it. Let them know you have a funny tummy and are keeping a close eye on what you eat so you don't spoil your holiday.

Healthy Versions Of "bad" Foods
For a while I've been tweaking recipes to be a little healthier for example french toast with wholemeal bread, egg whites and skim milk with cinnamon. A little low fat cooking spray in the pan is the only naughty ingredient. What are your new versions of old favorites?
