Wtloss got a reaction from Rubygirl in Looking for friends my age going through the same.
Cherish wow your wt loss is amazing. Good for you!
Donna try to not get too nervous I did, but honestly it was such an easy experience. Nothing compared to carrying around excess wt. I am 60 and had lapband surgery in 2012 big mistake! It slipped resulting in another surgery to remove the band and then a year later the VSG 11/10/2014. Total of 3 surgeries but the sleeve was the easiest! Only sick day one after that I could hardly tell I had surgery. My wt loss has been slow but I hear this is common when you are a revision from band to sleeve combined with my age. Anyway I am losing not gaining which would be happening if I didn't have the surgery. We can't compare ourselves with people who are much younger they seem to lose much faster.
This website is great because we surround ourselves with friends who have the same goals and many of the same issues with food. It's helpful to see you are not alone. It's encourage me to get out and walk, make better choices etc. best wishes to you you will do great. I lost 11 lbs on preop and 15 lbs post op but lots of inches. I haven't weight this weight in many, many years! I have 30-35 lbs to goal????. It only going to get better for you. It's hard work and takes being organized and dedicated but it's so worth it. Take time now while you are waiting for surgery to read all you can. Make meal plans, read labels. I started using egg whites, 1 egg and add some egg whites rather then 2 eggs, chicken sausage that's low in fat. Eating low carbs seems to be the trick at our age. I can't have a lot of carbs if I want to lose. Start making changes now. No grazing. Eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks. Cut the sugar. cheese sticks are good for Snacks and easy to throw in your purse if you are heading out the door.
    You will Rock this!

Yes it was very easy for me. Just vomiting day one then I felt great. No pain just discomfort. No pain meds after first day. I did stay 2 days only because my doctor hadn't discharged me. I was ready to go home the next day. I love not having the band. It was uncomfortable for me then it slipped and I wasn't successful with it. The sleeve has been great but my weight loss is slow

@alfie. I had my band removed and I was sleeved this past Monday. It feels so great to not have that port in me, it was uncomfortable and stuck out. I feel fantastic no pain. Not nearly as painful as the band. I don't quite understand it because it seems so much more invasive.

I just had a revision 10 days ago and I feel great. Down 17 lbs since preop. I haven't had any pain only some vomiting the day of surgery. The next day I was great. Already I feel much better than with the band. I am 60 for those of us older folks it wasn't bad. I hope to live out the rest of my years healthy.

Low BMIer here as well! 1/10/15 is my surgery date and I can't wait! Super excited to be hopping off the "I've tried every diet, pill, gimmick, exercised my butt off, cried my self to sleep, self loathing and self hatred" roller coaster and getting on with living! Can't wait, Can't wait!! And anyone that is having second thoughts....go try on some clothes, stand in front of the mirror, or have someone take a picture of you FULL FRONTAL no hiding behind anyone! That should remove all doubt!! LOL!!!!????????

Wtloss got a reaction from Paloma68 in Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?
I started with BMI of 33. The day of surgery my BMI was 31. I am 4 wks post op today and I only lost 7.8 lbs since surgery. I am a very slow loser, but I am following my diet plan. BMI is now 30.
I was very discourage especially when reading how much others have lost, but I keep encouraging myself to follow he plan and it will work. Today I finally dropped another pound. I hope I am on a roll now. If I wasn't on this journey I know I would be at least 10-15 lbs heavier with the holidays etc. 7.8 lbs lost is better then gaining????. Thanks for everyone's support reading others struggles helps put this journey in perspective.

    @Laydee
Thank you for you words of wisdom. You are right to focus on our instructions and getting well. We should Celebrate each day we have. I know I have lost inches because I am in cloths I wore when I first had the band. My concern is this happened with the band I lost some weight and then it stopped. I am hoping this experience goes better.
@ thank you for the menu sample. It's very helpful. I am going to set my phone timer for when to eat so I don't graze throughout the day.
Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions we are all on the same journey to get healthy and live life to the fullest.
Let's go and make our dreams reality!

And still have as much restriction as I did 2 years ago
I reached normal BMI in 10 months. I'm 5'8" and I've been 145 pounds or under for over 18 months
I just cooked a 4 ounce steak and made 2 heaping spoonfuls of cole slaw. Half of both is still on my plate and I can't take another bite
Now of course I can wait an hour and graze to finish it but instead I'm saving it for dinner

Alfie I almost backed out I was so worried about doing something so drastic at my age. We are the same age. I went to my support group and was encourage and literally at the last moment I went through with it. I stayed on the pre-op just in case I decided it was a go. I didn't feel well the first night. Very nauseated but it went away by the second day. The day I came home I have severe diarrhea but that is almost gone now. Get some coconut Water my Nurse coordinator wanted me to drink it because of all the electrolytes. I work from home and went right back to work. I am not tired I feel so good my husband keeps saying you're doing so much better this time. I literally have no pain. No pain meds. I did have my band removed and then months later the sleeve. The pain you may experience is more from the port removal. I wish you the best. You will do well. What state are you in? I am in CA.

To correct the rule breaking is easy. Get committed and put your head back in the game. Go back to basics... start tracking your food and measuring your portions. Decide on a calorie count which works for you and dont go over it. Its really that simple.
For me to lose and average 2 lbs per week I did 1000 calories a day and limited myself to 3 oz of Protein, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 startch at every meal. Discuss what works for you with your Dr or NUT and start with the next meal... Then do it for the next one and you will be on your way.

I fly all the time for work, no issues! I carry pure Protein, Protein Bars in my purse, nuts. I purchase Greek yogurt at the airports. Some of them carry the Fage yogurt. It's cost more than at the store, but then I think about all the junk food I used to spend money on. I am worth it!
