I agree, I can't tell if I'm hungry or my new tummy is pissed off. I think it actually gave me the finger the other day! I thought days 4 and 5 I was starving. But really I wasn't hungry - just trying to get used to the new feelings and signals. I can't wait to be able to go to soft liquid stage - yogurt, creamed Soups and pudding - that should be on Monday. but taking it slow is the key here I think.
Also, no BM yet - REALLY! I was sleeved on Monday. Dr. told me to get Miralax - so I drank that and still nothing. I can take it again tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. I never thought I would be so happy as the time I get to use the potty. TMI
I definitely did too much today. I bent over to get something in a low cabinet and I really felt the "pull" in my abdomen - like I was very aware of the staples. good luck everyone

I'm glad I found this thread. I to was sleeved on the 14th and am experiencing a lot of hunger. I'm just chalking it up to being only on liquids. The liquids seem to go down very easily...almost too easily. I've read one you progress to puréed a no soft foods, the "full" feeling will kick in. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this

I was sleeved the same day as you. I'm having hunger issues too. I know some is head hunger but some is real. As said above when your on liquids it's hard to tell restriction. I noticed when I eat thicker Soups I feel a bit more full. Praying for good restriction once I get to mushies next week!

I actually made something similar last night for dinner. 8 ounces Simply Smart milk with one scoop of chocolate whey Protein and one TBSP natural PB, 3 ice cubes..whirled in blender. No splenda for me, I find it too sweet sometimes in these drinks.< /p>

11 days post-op...went to Taco Bell today so I could eat with my husband. I ordered a chicken soft taco and a pintos and cheese. I ate the chicken out of the taco with a little sauce on it and about ten small bites of the Beans. So far so good. This is my first adventure eating outside the house. Makes me feel a little bit normal again.

My father dropped me off at an airport when I was 5 and I never saw him again. My stepfather tried, but was a physically abusive jerk to me, while his brother molested me. During my life I have turned food into a friend, a lover, a comfortor because the peole in my life sucked. I compare my eating to a heroin addict, at first its great and everything tastes so good, but soon you just maintain adn eventually that little high that I got when I put the first bite into my mouth wasn't there anymore. I would crave tastes that I didn't even know or remember what they were, just that I wanted some. I have spent some of the most horrible times of my life in the comfort of a fast food bag. Now I have problems walking, breathing and I can't tie my shoes. I was going to die and the only thing I could think about was...nobody will be able to lift the casket so I should be cremated. Then I called BMI and started the process. I am starting to feel better and starting to do nice things for myself that I never felt I deserved in the past. I like myself..for the first time. By going through this process I have given me back to me.

I got my surgery yesterday the 14th. Since we're both so new let's stay in touch and support one another? I'm also an emotional eater and I think you're absolutely right, we won't miss food once the weight starts falling off. I've been really hungry or it could be thirst but it feels like hunger. What are you sipping on? I'm sipping Water, Isopure, and broth so far. I'll be glad when this hungry feeling goes away...

Hey ladies I could use the support also. I was sleeeved on the 14th. Rough couple of days to start with but I'm finally feeling somewhat human again. I had horrible nausea and pain the first two days. Now I'm home and my incision pain is still pretty bad, lots of pulling and feels like I got stabbed. But I'm able to have full liquids now. Just having first Protein Shake and I feel more normal today. Also was able to finally find a comfy position and sleep a full night last night! It's getting easier day by day. Would love the support of some people who are going through the same stuff!

    Hey Ladies,
Diamond, welcome and it would be nice to have you, let's stay in touch and support one another as well. Maia, why do they have you in the hospital so long? I'm so sorry to hear your in pain! You shouldn't be, they should be loading you up with meds until your comfortable. They can also give you something for the nausea and to help you sleep. When do you get to go home honey? I hope soon. We're here for you! My biggest issue is gas, too much of it and it's a challenge to get it out. I'm still hungry but I'm sticking to Clear Liquids, wish me luck...

Most stores that sell maternity clothes should have the bands. You can also look on motherhood.com they have plus size maternity clothes so I'm sure they have larger belly bands as well.

Nope your not nuts. I was sleeved on Monday and since Thursday I swear I was starving to death! LOL. Now today it is "different" we really aren't hungry, I think we have been so predisposed to eating at the first sign of emptiness in our tummies and to snack whenever we wanted, that we are confusing the two. I tortured myself Thurs and Friday by watching FoodNetwork all day long. I figured I would try to desensitize myself by overloading. I'm trying to wrap my head around it being "ok" for everyone else to be able to eat and for me to be able to cook for them - but I forgo it all.
We did it at bad time of year, I think, but better now than later. Listen to your body not your head and then it will all make sense. Good luck!

Im getting the sleeve, it seem sless invasive and your intestines arent messed with. I have a friend who did bypass and she has to take so many pills, vits, she also just had a baby 2 weeks ago and she was only 5.6 lbs which is pretty small.. dr said it was because of the bypass.
I say sleeve, good luck in your decison

Lots of reasons for me but I'll list my most important ones =)
    1) My sister in law, friend and cousin all had the gastric bypass and they have all had not only complications (some more severe than others) and they have all gained back a minimum of 60 lbs each!!
    2) Dumping syndrome.. not interested in this process at all!
    3) Malabsorption problems
    4) Did not want my intestines rerouted.
Now for the reasons I chose the sleeve..
    1) I have not found anyone in any forum or otherwise that has gained weight back.
    2) Most lose the weight goals in 12 months.
    3) low complication rate vs any other surgery
    4) Sleeve was performed prior to the GB for super morbidly obese in order to get them to a safe weight for the GB surgery. Research!
    5) Almost all surgeons I have talked to, read about or listened to on various sites all agree that the sleeve is the best option for wls currently
Like I said there are so many more reasons but these were some of the big ones for me!
Good luck with your decision and your journey, whichever journey you choose! =) Make sure you listen to your heart, body and surgeon (lol) and do what is best for you. Don't let other peoples reasons decide for you!

There's really not much advice to give other than really, truly look into the pros and cons of each procedure (short and long term) and then be COMPLETELY honest with yourself when you evaluate the appropriateness of each procedure compared to your desired lifestyle, level of commitment, and desired results. You really need to decide on what will work best with AND for you.
In my case, like I posted earlier, I'm willing to take up the slack that my body won't automatically give me, in order to avoid some of the more unfortunate aspects of RNY. If I honestly could not pick up that slack and needed a "free pass" then the sleeve would not have been a good choice for me (still wouldn't have gone with RNY though, pretty sure I'd pick DS over it)

One thing I would HIGHLY recommend you research is the issues with malabsorption with the GP. In short, after about 12 to 18 months, the body typically resets itself and while it might only actually absorb half the calories you are consuming for that first 12 to 18 months, steadily your body will adjust and absorb more calories until you are almost where you were prior to surgery. So, if you were used to eating say 1,500 to 2,000 calories after surgery, your body is likely going to only absorb half of that in the beginning. Eventually, your body will adjust and it will start seeing all or nearly all of those calories leading to weight gain because you won't realize what is happening with your body. This is most often what leads to re-gain for those that have the GP.
Also, understand that you are signing up for frequent labwork for LIFE to be sure your body is getting the necessary Vitamins it needs to keep you from having other health issues. Just imagine if you had this surgery, started regaining weight and left with the side effects of having to take a laundry list of Vitamins just to stay healthy. No thank you!
Just try to research the best you can. Ultimately you have to feel comfortable with your own choice. Just sharing some of the thoughts that went into how I made my decision for the sleeve. I have absolutely no regrets except that I didn't do it sooner!

    I chose VSG because:
I had less weight to lose and I thought it would be sufficient.
I wanted to be able to take arthritis medications.
I thought I wouldn't need to take as many Vitamins (turned out I was wrong - my program through Kaiser has me take the same Vitamins as someone who had the bypass. I'm OK with that now anyway.)
I was afraid of the intestinal rerouting.
I originally thought VSG was an external sleeve that was placed around the stomach to prevent it from expanding. But even after I learned what it really was, after reading this forum and other information about the procedure, I felt confident choosing it.
BTW, I do know people who have gained weight after having VSG and some that have not been able to get to goal. So I wouldn't say I chose it because I thought weight loss was better or more permanent with VSG than with RNY.

My personal pick is the sleeve. My reason is because it seems less complicated then the bypass. With the sleeve the doctor is only touching your stomach. The bypass they are playing with your intestines too which for some reason scares me.
