lollyfidy1965 got a reaction from dar1983 in Major Nsv!
So...I tried on jeans 2 weeks ago, and found that I was down from a size 26 to a size 22. I had a couple old pairs of size 24's, so I decided to order some size 20's, and just wear the baggy 24's until I could get into the new 20's.
Well....those new 20's arrived today....AND THEY FIT!!! I don't just mean I could manage to get them zipped...I mean I could breathe and sit in them!! They look amazing! Its been more than 15 years since I could fit into a pair of size 20 pants...and, so help me G-d, I will NEVER see anything larger EVER AGAIN!!!
    WOOHOO!!

Like another poster, I've been completely open regarding the process, putting everything...from the first visit with my surgeon, to changes to my diet/exercise pre-surgery, to progress made since my surgery...out on Facebook. My friends and family have been amazingly supportive, and I've learned, by sharing my own story, that several of my close friends had some form of WLS themselves, but weren't comfortable about sharing their story until they learned I'd done the same. I've found most people are very curious about the procedure, and the diet stages afterwards. And everyone is amazed at the weight loss!! I guess I feel like its my opportunity to help educate people regarding WLS...in the hopes of eliminating some of the stigma that still seems to be attached to it. This is not an "easy way out," and I didn't get surgery because I was "too lazy to do it the old fashioned way." I eat less (WAY less), and work harder (at the gym) than I have in my entire life....its definitely HARD work, to have WLS, and be successful afterwards!!!

I've gotten to the point where I'm so tired of explaining my weight loss to people that I just say, "Diet and exercise," or "My gym membership is really paying off!" Then it's fun to watch them gnash their teeth.
I've also told people I don't like, "My genetic resequencing is finally kicking in!" It confuses them into speechlessness most of the time. Or, "I was asked to try an experimental new weightloss drug called Yuradoofus."

Liquid Tylenol is the only thing I am allowed to take. I can tell you, prior to surgery, Tylenol wouldn't have touched my lower back pain. Since surgery, I've had low back pain twice, and just 3 tsp (yes...tsp...not TBSP!) took care of the pain for me. You might try it before you give up on it...you might be as surprised as I was! Best of luck!

If you're doing high protein/low carb, you should go into, and stay in, ketosis...burning fat for energy, as long as you keep your carbs below 30g/day, give or take. I've been in ketosis for 9 weeks now, without dropping out once....and its working beautifully.

    lollyfidy1965 got a reaction from shan1201 in 3 Days Post-Op And Feeling Regret :'(
I had my surgery on June 19th. On the morning of the 10th, they took me down for a swallow test...and found that my sleeve was so inflamed it was completely closed...nothing would go through. I went back to my room, where they put an NG tube back in (to suck out any acid/fluids that worked their way out of my sleeve), and I was NPO for 4 1/2 more days. Thank God I experienced no hunger, or I would've gone mad!! LOL I experienced horrible nausea for 4 days, and the acid reflux was terrible...even though the NG tube sucked it all out. I stopped using any pain meds after 3 days. They finally removed the NG tube after 4 1/2 days, and allowed me to try sips of Water overnight. With Water conquered, I was allowed Clear Liquids the following morning...chicken and beef broth...which went down with no problems. On the 25th I was released to go home, on "full liquids".
When I went home, I was given a script for liquid Zantac (remember the bad acid in the hospital??). I took it religiously, but still started experiencing breakthrough acid about 4 weeks after being home. An added Prevacid has kept the acid under control. Unfortunately, when they added the Prevacid, they bumped me back to "full liquids", after having been on "soft/pureed" foods for a week. 3 additional weeks of "full liquids" ended yesterday, so I'm slowly reintroducing some soft foods again.
Even with these challenges, I'm so incredibly grateful for the change I've been given...to get my life, and my relationship with food, under control!! I felt like crap the first week, and was exhausted the first month after coming home, but I'm finally feeling really good...most days, at least. What's my point?? Hang in there...I promise it WILL get better!! Follow your doctor's instructions to the letter, be as active as you can be, and don't let low-energy days get the better of you, psychologically. You've made an amazing decision, to get healthier, and get healthier you will!! Best of luck!

300 calories a serving seems awful high to me. You can get ready-to-drink Muscle Milk "lite"....its only 100 calories in an 8 ounce serving (it comes in chocolate or vanilla), or ready-to-drink Muscle Milk "regular formula"...its 131 calories in an 8 ounce serving, or 180 in an 11 ounce bottle (the "regular" comes in more flavors...chocolate, vanilla, banana creme, Cookies and cream, etc). You might try switching to one of the RTD varieties, to decrease the number of calories you take in, when you have a shake. Best of luck!

My loss has come in fits and starts. I'll sit on the same number for several days, then drop 2 pounds a day or 4 or 5 days in a row. I think that quick loss throws my body for a loop, and the "stalls" are its way of catching up to its new self. I work hard not to get discouraged, but I sure do feel better on the 2-pound-down days!!

I know it's hard to do, but, you need to quit smoking asap. I, was a pack a day smoker and quit two months before my surgery date. Hardest thing to go thru. But, my life meant more to me than the cigarettes and food. Smoking hinders proper healing, puts you at higher risks of blood clots, and developing pneumonia, etc.. i was sleeved 7/30 and as of today, smokefree for 2 months, 1 week and 2 days. I'm dealing with craving a cigarette, or craving food, or both. It is hard, but I refuse to be a slave to cigarettes and food ever again! Came through surgery just fine, aside from the typical post op stuff most of us deal with, it doesn't seem like I had major surgery! You can do it, you really can!!!

I have had no significant issues since my surgery, 7 weeks ago. I take care to follow my surgeon's instructions to the letter, and pay very close attention to my nutritionist's guidelines. I work hard at the gym, 3 or 4 hours a day, and take all my meds/supplements. Maybe I'm just lucky....

My suggestion....order broiled fish, and a soft(mashable) veggie, if they have one. Don't be afraid to just get the fish....and don't be embarrassed to take a pass on the Pasta, or anything else that's bad for you!! You've made a huge decision to have surgery, and to take control of food.....this is just an opportunity to do just that. Be in control of the situation, do what you need to do...FOR YOU...and don't worry what anyone else thinks about it! Best of luck!

I regret buying new clothes for a trip literally weeks before my first doctor's appointment!! Now, 7 weeks post-op, and all those beautiful clothes have gone into a donation box, because I was swimming in them! (Never mind I hadn't really contemplated having surgery prior to buying those clothes....I still regret it!! LOL)
I felt a little better about it yesterday...I went shopping and bought 2X blouses, instead of the 5X ones I gave away!! Its all good!

Aspartame (in anything) gives me horrible Migraines, so I avoid it like the plague. You might try 4C packets...they're sweetened with Splenda, and all the flavors I've had, so far, have tasted really good to me. Best of luck!

I went through everything in my closet 2 weeks ago, and filled up 4 kitchen garbage bags with clothes to donate!! I'm down to 3 pairs of jeans (that are now too baggy to be comfortable, but they have an elastic waist, so they don't fall off LOL), and about 7 blouses (that really could go into another garbage bag, but a girl has to have SOMETHING to wear!). All of my gym pants are falling off...even with an elastic waist. Time to invest in some big safety pins!!

Get yourself a good diet tracking journal (I use Diet Minder, and love it), and use it religiously!! Not only can you use it to know how you're doing, you can use it to plan ahead (I plan my days food and drink the evening before, that way I know I'll get enough of everything before the morning even starts...no guess work...I just follow the plan for the day). Best of luck!

lollyfidy1965 got a reaction from Sharon's last chance in Am I Drinking Too Much 6Th Day Post-Op?
I questioned the juice, as well. I'm only allowed a maximum of 4 oz of a non-sugar added juice, and that only if diluted to 16 oz. Even with no sugar added, its way high in carbs (and those carbs are empty "fruit sugar" carbs). If you're wanting fruit flavored drinks, I would suggest switching to something like Fruit20, or another flavored, non-carbonated, Water. Other than that, there isn't a "maximum" amount of fluids you can drink...at least not that I know of....as long as you're also getting enough Protein (my rule is 75-85 grams of Protein per day).
    Best of luck!
