Do you think the risk of complications is higher in mexico? For those who went or considerered it, was personal safety in mexico a concern?

Will Surgery Make Me Uninsurable?

Will Surgery Make Me Uninsurable?
I'm considering having surgery in Mexico... I'm self employed and carry our family's insurance policy. I'm finding that most individual plans don't cover weight loss surgery... so I have to self pay. I can afford Mexico rates no problem but not US a 3x that. ha ha. I'm wondering though if having the surgery will now be seen as a "preexisting condition" that will make me uninsurable in the future? anyone have experience with this?

Which Dr. Did You Pick. Why? Why Not The Others?
I have to self pay (no insurance coverage for this) and obviously Mexico is more doable for the budget. The guy in my area seems fine/nice but I think has only done about 100 surgeries too... there seem to be about 5-6 "popular" doctors in Mexico.. so I'm curious-- what was the deciding factor/s for you in the one you picked. It likely wasn't location or personality because you would be traveling regardless and probably didn't meet the doctor...) I hear great things about so many... so i'd love to hear why you picked who you did... was there something that made you rule out someone else? (i.e. bad feedback, something negative/) Thanks!

No Insurance Coverage: How To Pay For It...

No Insurance Coverage: How To Pay For It...
Hey All... assuming i'd go US... and have no insurance coverage (i'm self insured... so no coverage.. in fact there is an exclusion)--- what are options for paying for this if I only have about 4-5K saved up....

New And Lots Of ?'s
Selena.. that is great! How long from when you made the initial consult were you able to have surgery? Like if i started the ball rolling now, could i have surgery in late Aug? how long until you were moving about etc... recovery? Was it painful traveling home? (for me it would be a 4 hour flight)

New And Lots Of ?'s
Hey All! Im new here. This is something i've researched and thought about for a LONG time... I had my 2nd (and final) child in 2003 and was on bed rest with both kids-- gaining 100+ lbs. I've struggled so much to get it off and have about 125 to lose. ugh. My friend had sleeve done in jan and is doing just amazing.. she has inspired me. My husband is on board We have GoldenRule / United insurance with a high deductible (i think 6-8K) and I can afford to pay that out of pocket BUT I can't afford more than about 10K. I'm attending a seminar tommorow so some of these questions may be answered there, but in an ideal world, i'd have surgery the last week of August. (timing for work/time off etc..) So my questions: 1. What is the "typical" timeline if you are going US. i.e. how long typically from first consult to surgery? 2. How does that differ if you go Mexico? My husband is pretty leary of Mexico, but it seems so much less hassle (minus the travel) and definitely less expensive. is there a tradeoff in terms of care etc? I'd have my husband travel with me. But would have to make sure he is comfortable with the process there too. Dr. Garcia is $4700 right now... i don't want to rush the process, but I don't want to wait a year or more either.. you know? Anyone have insight? pros/cons over mexico vs. us?
