My big day was July 2nd! I feel great and it's only day 4. Best decision I've ever made in my life already down 7lbs.

Well here goes... my name is Robin and my surgery date is scheduled for July 10th.
I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks they're smaller than they are. I see photos and wonder who that person is, surely that can't be me! I've struggled with my weight my entire life and can't count how many times I've lost the same 50 lbs.
I'm really looking forward to feeling good about my body again. I'm a little worried about the loose skin, too. My doctor's office requires a lot of pre-op classes and it was discussed it in one of those that if you do 30 minutes of weight training at least 3 days a week and 30 minutes of cardio 6 days a week that it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm really trying to have faith in that holding true for me, but it's so hard!
I hope everyone's surgery goes well. Just keep thinking how much healthier and happier we're going to be 6 months from now!

OP I read your first post but have not read through all responses, so I hopethis is still relevant.
When I had my lapband surgery in 2006 I was very open about it, but I asked my husband not to mention it to his family or his co-workers (most of whom I know). I just told him it was my story to tell, not his. Guess who he told. His why -- he was so proud of me for taking such a big step toward a better quality of life that he completely forgot.
I also told my mom the same thing. Don't tell the family (I'm not close with most of my family) and... just don't tell anyone. My mom is a horrible gossip. Horrible. So I show up for a family event a few months later and one of my aunts, who I particularly cannot stand, asks, "So how's the rubber band thing your mom told me about?" Then I go to get my hair done and she has told my stylist. She "didn't think telling family would be a big deal" and told my stylist (my mom gets her hair done at the same place) because she knew someone who was thinking about getting it. Like that makes sense.
I was more angry with my mom than DH but in both cases I felt that my trust/confidence had been betrayed.
I told DH this time around - not a peep. And so far he hasn't. I told my mother not a peep as well, and she says, "What am I supposed to tell people if they ask?" "Tell them they'll have to ask me."
It's hurtful, but it sounds like you have some other issues that might be exacerbating it. I'm reading a lot of built up tension and animosity in your message. I would make it clear to him that he has hurt you and why. His reasoning doesn't matter. He will own his mistake, or he won't. But he needs to understand that it has emotional consequences.

Both of you MGM & Gramaof4 are amazing women to have held it together for so long without the support of your husbands! You are both going to do great with this surgery & have extremely happy lives no matter what happens. Of Course I want everuthing to work out for you but sometimes it just doesn't work. My mother has been divorced twice! Both of them were jerks!
Patrick- Your wife is extremely lucky to have you! You gave great advice to these ladies!'
And for those of you that are having a coronary about people having a laugh, get over it, these ladies have no problems with anyone having a good time, nobody was making fun of anyone's situations.

Try being fat and the same height as most guys.
It's always seemed to me (dating/dateability-wise) that it's better to be fat and short (awww, she's so cute) than to be fat and tall.
And it has always seemed that fat guys have an easier time of it than fat women. I see my fat guy friends getting a lot more activity than my fat girl friends.
Reasons schmeasons. And yes, those are generalizations. But that doesn't mean they can't be accurate from my perspective.

MGM....Love ya chickie...new friends can be very supportive especially when they understand and have been or are wearing the same shoes, as uncomfortable as they may be.
I love my husband, but I NEED for him to love me fat or thin...not just thin... and not just on his terms....
I have not taken offense to ANYTHING anyone has written, in fact almost the exact opposite...everytime from here on out, when my hubby does something to disrespect me...I am going to think of a wild Grizzly Bear....LOL Thanks Patric...I will tell you the first real good belly laugh I have had in a flipping long time...OMG it was so funny I had to share with my friends who watch me and my sadness with how my hubby treats me.
So Thank You for a well Needed laugh...

If i were you id walk the other way and blatantly ignore the people in your life with the negativity...block them on facebook...does it really matter in the grand scheme of things what they think or say?....as dumb as they sound...their opinion isnt wirth ****...and **** isnt worth worrying over.
Distance yourself from all naysayers till your a couple months out...surround yourself with supportive people.
You're the wife you hold the power in the relationship... tell him if he wants to see his family he can do so by himself without you. When he gets home do not discuss anything they said...literally pretend tgey dont exist to you.
If he doesnt like it stop doing things like making dinner for him or other things...or go stay with a friend till after surgery..tell him if he really wants you to come back he better learn to appreciate and accept your decisions and be more supportive.
Just remember you are in control of the situation.

Jlewis229 reacted to clk in Taste Buds Completely Changed After Surgery!
It's normal, so work it to your advantage!
Some tastes do come back but most of my aversions have stuck with me. I used to LOVE fries or greasy chips and can't stand more than one or two now. It's nice to kick that habit. I used to crave french fries and it led me into the drive thru cycle more than once.
My time off dairy (lactose intolerance) left me with a dislike of heavy, creamy sauces and cream Soups. I can eat them now, they just aren't as satisfying as they were prior to surgery.
I had a Protein shake I bought a two pound tub of because I loved it pre-op, but it tasted awful to me after surgery.
I'm a cook and a serious baker and for the longest time food held absolutely no appeal for me. It wasn't until sometime around one year out that I had my first meal where I sat back and said, "Wow, that was good." It comes back, but that huge break where I didn't care for food really taught me how to handle my portions and how to eat in moderation. I'm grateful my tool gave me that extra perk. I'm better adjusted in maintenance because of this. I can bake six dozen Cookies or five loaves of bread in a day and have them in the house without feeling like it's a constant temptation. It's just food, and I can eat a little if I want, but it doesn't control me the way it used to.
Best of luck and swift healing! It gets easier.

Ok so I read this post and it just really bothered me!
"Wow. I don't think your size has anything to do with finding love. It's the love and respect for yourself that makes people love you. You could be a size 2 and if you don't know how to love and honor yourself, you'll still be alone."
This is not all that true! Let's Face it, most people are attracted first by the way you look! They don't know your personality by looking at you! They don't decide to give you their phone # after seeing your personality lol
I think this is true of a LTR but dating, etc I just think it has very little merit. Fat people have a much harder time dating PERIOD!

I'm surprised anyone is with the carbs that are in them. IMO 20g carbs is high but while writing this, the point is to lose fat around the liver and not weight, so I guess since they are no or low far it makes since!

you are correct in the size is close. it takes 25.4mm to make 2.54 cm which equals an inch. It is the staple line that matters and how close it is to the bougie.
