  1. I'm treadmilling it or walking around the lake that has a 1 mile track around it. That worked for me before my surgery, hoping that continues. I am even looking into buying a used treadmill that I can use at home. Cheaper than the gym in the long run, and I think I'd do it longer or more than once a day if it was more convenient.
  2. Welcome Jenbass! How has your post surgery life been so far? I was banded on 5/29, so you are ahead of me!
  3. carolina girl, congrats and welcome to the beginning of the rest of your life. I too had been thinking about you. Even checked your blog today to see if you posted there. Glad you got to stay in the hospital overnight. That had to help. Regarding the shoulder pain, my nurse practitioner said to avoid drinking cold drinks, as that seems to make it worse. For me, it was very true. dlitefull, where your name is in the upper left corner, click on the down arrow, click on my ticker and follow the directions.
  4. I was banded on 5/29 and today I have been bored and restless. I started mushies yesterday, so I think the added Protein is indeed helping. I had a LOT of gas difficulties, so I was a bit slower to get back on my feet than most. I still tire easy, so I'm glad I don't have to go back until Monday. Hopefully by then I will be pretty much back to normal. The surgeon's office told me one week off work, so I think I got it in my head that recovery would be easy. Duh, we had surgery.. SURGERY, and added a bit of hardware to our bodies. I'm glad I was able to take an additional week. Since this procedure involved the stomach and our future eating, I am being darn sure not to overdo or push things.
  5. WTG! I think the NSV are more important than the scale! Congrats
  6. I think part of the post op diet, liquid, mushy, real food... is to teach your new stomach how to process food all over again and to help teach you how to eat with the new band. I just moved to mushies and I really didn't want to nor was I craving real food, but I know I have to eat sometimes. The May group I am in has an accountability thread, in which they post what they ate for the day. When I seen the small amounts of food that was filling them up, I decided to try. Its amazing that if you listen to your body just how little you really need to feel satisfied. Just like when you went to mushy. I would suggest calling your dietician and telling her of your concerns and follow her guidelines, rather than waiting another four weeks. Keep us posted!
  7. Thanks for the encouragement that maybe sometime in the future, pizza can return to my plate. In the meantime, our old standby of what I call open faced pizza will have to do. Cook meat, add sauce and toppings and when they are soft put cheese in pan, cover until cheese melts. I am concerned though.. no mushrooms? eeks, think i like those more than pizza!
  8. I do slimfast mostly, however, the Atkins strawberry is pretty good. I am going to try cottage cheese today even though I didn't care much for it in the past. It is still a good protein choice and mushy enough too. I think more protein will help me from being too weak, which I still am.
  9. . I guess becoming a vitamin guru comes with WLS? Biotin here I come, anything to help my hair!
  10. The complications thread is the worst case scenarios and most of us, though we may feel like it especially in the beginning, do not fit into that category. Please stick to the encouraging and supportive threads will you will find support and maybe some helpful hints. Its better to go in search of peace and support than the horrible "what ifs".
  11. bamabander.. i hope you will let me share your new mantra.. It IS just food after all. It is not going to kill us to not have the few things we won't be able to eat! We WILL be healthy! We WILL overcome! food will NOT rule us any longer! (And think of the money we will save too! woohoo)
  12. I'm soooooooooo excited, even though physically only feeling marginally better. I have gas. Period. The gas from my surgery even. I can drink without worrying that its the drinking that is causing the gas pains. I know that the band and port are both okay. MDFinch, they started me on milk of magnesia to help with the gas and to keep things moving okay. I have been reading about the constipation you and daisy had and was worried that would be my next issue to deal with. I drank 1/2 bottle of water on the way home (granted it is a 1-1/2 hours drive). I am having some cream soup as I write this. I'm on bedrest for the next few days and won't be going back to work until next week, but my mind is relieved and there is light at the end of the tunnel now. I figure over the next few days I may finally be able to hit my liquids goal! Thanks for all the encouragement. I would have never made it without ya'll. I even told the doctor's office about what a great support I have found here. You guys rock!
  13. Congrats on your non scale victory!! Are you totally in love with your measuring tape? I had heard that it is much nicer than a scale..I don't have a scale here at home and not sure I intend to get one. I'm am excited that I get to see the doc today for post op visit. I get to weigh in and see where I am at. Hopefully, will get to change my ticker today!!! keep fingers crossed. after one week of no food and two weeks pre op diet, i better have lost something! hehehe p.s. also excited that maybe he will help me with my gas issue. it was so bad yesterday that my insides feel bruised from all the gas pressure...
  14. Good luck with your surgery!
  15. 8 oz a day for 2-3 WEEKS???? oh my... what happened when you drank too much?

  17. The support group is at Dr. Sid's office in Champaign. It is the first Thursday of every month 6-7:15 and is run by the nurse practitioner. I think I may skip it though, since I see the doctor today and I have found so much support here on LBT. Thanks everybody for all your encouraging words and posts!
  18. I remember looking at the post op diet and thinking no solid food for four weeks?? Like you, I was going to try eating asap! Then I had the band put on.... everything, i mean everything changed. I don't even care to eat mushy! Of course, I'm only on Day 7, but seven days of liquids are not enough. Think I will wait awhile before trying mushy. Also, like you, I wasn't excited either as I started my pre op diet. People kept asking me, but I think I was in mourning for all the foods I'd never get to eat again. I will probably mourn pizza until the day my husband makes me crustless pizza and I can eat it. A couple of days before surgery and two weeks of success on the pre op diet allowed me to get excited about the new chapter of my life that would begin after surgery. Stay focused on your goal and the reasons you decided to pursue banding. Read up on other people's post op issues so if they happen to you they wont freak you out as bad as they did me. Luckily, I found this site and it has helped a lot knowing other people went through the things I'm going through now. Keep posting and don't give up. We are here for you each step of the way!
  19. Day 5 and eating cottage cheese?? WOW! I don't get mushy foods until Day 7, and even then I'm not sure I want them. May stick to liquids until I can get them down without the gas pains taking me down.
  20. I will definitely make this when i get to progress to soft foods! Thank you for posting it back. I bet canned chicken would work good in this recipe too!
  21. My dr recommended a chewable multivitamin and a chewable calcium supplement. I take the chewable Flintstones Complete multivitamins but haven't started the calcium supplement yet. I feel like a kid again, kindof how I think I will feel when I get to my goal weight!
  22. I dont know how the sleeve works versus the band, but I would think by now, if you were going to have an issue you would have had it. its been 20 minutes since you posted, so you gotta be good to go by now! Glad you are feeling so good! I never thought about munching and cooking. I will have to look out for that old habit too!
  23. I think your tummy will tell you if you need to call the doctor or not. I would definitely push fluids though to make sure the roast beef gets through the band and swelling okay. We had surgery the same day, so I'm no expert!
  24. Congrats on starting your journey. I have just recently been banded and have found this website and the people here so helpful and supportive. I hope you do too!
