kspye got a reaction from PEvette in New Band To Sleever Here
Hi I jsut got my band to sleeve revision on May 29th. Recovery is good so far and I'm looking foward to going on this journey with other band to sleevers. I only lost 25 lbs with the band so I'm worried the sleeve won't work either but I'm following the plan well so far so hopefully i'll get to goal. I didn't have any problems with the band, it jus didn't control my apetite. My doctor said they sleeve would help with hunger so I'm hoping he's right. So far I've had no hunger bit its only been a few days since surgery.
I also noticed the side effect that i'm not "hot" all the time anymore. I saw that someone else posted about this and its true! I love this side effect, especially since its summer in Texas for me!
I look foward to getting to meet ya'll :-)

My Surgery may 14th starting weight 272. I had a 3 week stall but I weighed today and 23 down. So hopefully I've broke my stall.

~450 the first week, ~550 the second week...and then aiming for 600-800 going forward. Per my surgeon and nutritionist.

600-800. I don't mean to count, but I use sparkpeople.com to track my Protein and it goes with the territory. Also, it is good to know so that if you stall you can figure out what adjustments need to be made.

I, literally, eat my feelings. No other way to say it. food is my ultimate companion for boredom, stress, fear...you name it. But that use is so compelling...so strong...and so habitual, I knew I needed restriction (for a period of time) to break the cycle. Now, with the help of a therapist, I'm focusing on finding new habits and coping skills that "normal" people use for those feelings. I knew it was a problem, but the surgery really showed me how bad it was...when I get through the moments of mourning food and being pissed I can't have what I want, I can step back and get some satisfaction that it just proves I needed this to break the cycle. At least that's what I'm telling myself (and my therapist )! So the first six months for me are about weight loss and learning to use the sleeve, sure...but it's REALLY about a small window of opportunity to change the role food plays in my life and find healthier ways to work out whatever crap I've gone going on. So, I totally and completely get it!

Big time for me. The worse part for me was the first day that I was home alone all day because my husband went back to work after taking the week of surgery off to be with me. I was just a wreck the day he went to work, I didn't know what to do with myself.
I have also been having days where I just don't want to eat/drink anything (other than water) because I have been kind of feeling pissed off at food, sounds kind of silly I know, but it had been my "best friend" and my pain medication for over 20 years and now I can't have the same relationship. I know that there are others here that will get what I am trying to say, I don't know how to put it in words. Never really realized how much I used food to self medicate until I started this whole process and therapy. The thing I turned to is the thing that was killing me, but my head still tries to tell me I need it.

It does have to do with psychological adjustments, but your body is going through a lot of physiological stress too. It is trying to re-regulate after surgery and adipose tissue tends to hide pockets of hormones. As you lose weight, these hormones are rather randomly released back into your body. The combination of the two can have some very strange effects!

I had a band and lost 80 pounds with it. I had to have emergency surgery to get it removed because of a slip in December 2010. I put on about 30 pounds by the following November and could not get approved through my insurance. The excuse insurance gave for the denial was that I did not weigh enough; they were treating me as if I was new to bariatric surgery. After a 2nd level appeal, I was granted approval finally in May 2012. I look forward to my sleeve on July 17th!

My band was removed June 2011 and my revision is 6-27. I was 213 and down to 134. Now I am 170. I hate it. Can't lose despite following a very strict 1200 cal diet. Can't wait to be on the losing team. Congrats to all revision people!!

Kspye, congrats and good luck with the sleeve. I am trying to remember and keep in mind that the sleeve is only a tool. How I use the tool is up to me. I still need behavior modification and work on getting my Protein in first and foremost, then my vegetables, my Water and then complex carbs to for energy.
Sleeves can be stretched and like people with Gastric Bypass, they can gain weight, there is so many different variables in making the sleeve work for you. Not drinking with your meal, staying away from carbonation (including wine coolers, beers, pop, tonic Water, champagne) all things, staying away from juices.
As the days get closer to the sleeve, more the nervous I am getting, but I am chanting to myself, the sleeve is only a tool, the way I use the tool determines if I succeed.
Best of luck to you.

Congrats on your revision! Not "running hot" all the time is a real change for me too! I'm going to have to crochet myself some shawls pretty soon just to stay warm!

Kspye, congrats!! I hope u recovery quickly. I had the Band removed in Feb - hated all 4 years of it & had the Sleeve 4/24/12. Although it has not been easy I would do it all over again. I love the Sleeve!!! I'm not losing weight fast but I've already lost more with the sleeve than I did with the Band & I'm only 5 1/2 weeks post op!!! It's definitely a learning experience so be patient, do everything your nutritionist & doctors say & u will do well. Best wishes!!

I was sleeved April 25. I never thought my pain would go away. Even 1 week ago today it still hurt to laugh, cough& sneeze. It even hurt to sit up straight to drive. I could only sleep on my back. The good news is this week all week I have felt great! I can laugh, sneeze,& cough with no pain!! I can also sleep on both sides!!
Trust me it does get better. I never thought i was going to feel better again. But I feel great now! Good luck!!

kspye got a reaction from beverlykm in New Here And Just Sleeved
nice to meet yall--i'm so glad to meet other band to sleevers! I'm still on liquids but it does feel a little different, more natural if that makes sense. My appetite is gone so hopefully that will stay. My band did nothing to contol hunger so i'm hoping my sleeve will.

kspye got a reaction from Luwanna in Hurting....when Does It End?
Hi I was banded the 29th too! I'm also in alot of pain. If I take my pain meds every 4 hours like prescribed (my doctor prescribed loratab or something like that), the pain is managable but I keep trying to NOT take my meds and then I'm in serious pain.
Getting up and sitting down are the hardest for me too. If I could just lay here all day it wouldn't be as bad but I have two kids who want constant attention and that's hard. I want to stop the pain meds asap because they make me groggy.
good to meet you on here--there's a couple of us sleeved on May 29th :-)

I was just sleeved on Tuesday, May 29th. I am just a couple of days out, but boy oh boy do I hurt. I feel like I have been beat in my abdomen, then set on fire! It is bearable most of the time, but getting up from sitting position or sitting from a standing position is excruciating. I have also had a couple of coughing fits that REALLY hurt, as did the ride home from the hospital today on our crappy Tennessee highways. How long til the majority of this pain subsides? food is the least of my worries. I just want to feel crappy. Please share.

Hey ladies- I'm bandless and sleeved! Everything went well with surgery but it took him 5 hrs instead of 3 because of all of the scar tissue. He did have to put in a drain which I want to have taken out so badly. The doc kept me one night longer because it was a longer surgery than anticipated. I'm hoping to go home tonight!
Hunger hasn't been an issue. Just thirsty all the time. Anyways that's all for now
