I am a little over a month out and there hasn't been one easy thing yet! This has been the hardest thing I've been through. I've cried, I've been mad, I've even wondered "what did I do." This lifestyle change is very emotional! Everyone is different and each of us have our own story but I'm sure everyone will tell you it's definitely NOT an easy way out!
    Good luck on your journey!

What is the total amount you want to lose? 44 is wonderful! I'm not far behind you. I've had stalls that I thought would never end. Keep up the good work and you will get there. I found a lime Greek yogurt that I really like. It has 13 grams of Protein. I drink an Atkins shake(ready to drink-can't stomach the ones you shake up) every morning, 15 grams. I use reduced fat Ritz, low fat cheese and low fat lunch meat, I eat about five and get roughly 8 grams out of that. My hair is falling out from where I had such a hard time in the beginning. Doing great now though. Almost 50 pounds gone. I can't believe in just a few days I will be halfway to my goal already! This surgery has been a life saver, even though it almost killed me in the beginning...lol!

I have finally reached my first weight goal 199.5, you know under 200 for the first time in 23 years! While I am thrilled to have achieved my medical goals of no more diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea! This one feels just as special! Things have slowed down allot since September but, I know to just stay the course and it will be o.k.
I am happy, healthy and starting to feel GREAT! Happy Friday Everyone! : )

Hello, everyone. My name is Nicole and I just found this forum website from a Google search. This is my first post, my introduction.
I am 32 years old, I am a mom of three (12, 9, 7) and I am engaged to an amazing man. We live in Greensboro, NC. I had my RNY on July 30, 2007 and just this past week was the first I'd experienced any type of problems. I will get into that more here in a little bit.
I had my RNY, as I stated above, in 2007, and I went into the surgery room weighing 257 lbs. My highest recorded weight was 315 lbs, and my lowest was 128 lbs. Right now I am hovering around 160 lbs. Since my RNY I have gone through a 12 year relationship/10 year marriage that was rather abusive, as well as a separation from that marriage, a new (and amazing) relationship, two moves (from PA to VA and then VA to NC), three knee surgeries, an emergency gall bladder removal surgery and just this past week an emergency perforated stomach ulcer surgery.
Like I said above, this last week's incident was the first problem since having my surgery (aside from the occasional "dumping", vomiting, dehydration, etc.) and it was VERY scary. I was admitted to the local hospital, with what I thought was a heart attack because of the symptoms I was displaying, only to find that a ruptured ulcer produced a perforated stomach. I spent 7 days in the hospital, having gotten out just yesterday. My "pouch" was repaired, however I am back on the DYS 1 diet of pureed and soft foods, and I am being set up with a bariatric surgeon and his team (one that works with the surgeons who worked on my stomach last week) in the next 2 weeks because there is a good chance that I will have to have a revision done. I am on some medications right now, to continue the healing process, but the surgeons think that there is going to be no option other than the revision.
Um, let's see ..... I truly have strayed from the "RNY way of life" with all of the craziness and stress that has gone on in my life, but after this past week I know that I have to get back in line. As I said above, in 2010 I had gotten down to 128 lbs (around a size 4) and while I really enjoyed it I just crept back up after the first knee surgery. It's going to be a while before I can get back into the gym, but that's my last worry right now. I just want to get better.
I hope to meet a lot of nice people here, to offer advice and to get advice. Just because I'm 5 years post-op it doesn't mean I know it all, and I never claim to. I am posting two pictures along with this post - the first is my highest and lowest weights (2006 and then 2010) and then myself and my children, back in August, at my current size.
I hope that everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving week and weekend.
    Nicole

So I have been experimenting with some Protein Shake recipes. Bless the hubby who let me use him to as a taste tester. Take 2 scoops of powder & mix up standard shake or do what I do and use a premade shake. Add 1 cup ice. Add 1 tsp sugar free pudding or Jello to flavor. Add a drop of either butter extract or vanilla extract. Blend...so yummy we did Choclate strawberry (w/butter), and Chocoholic with Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup and vanilla extract both 4-4 1/2 stars out of 5 per the hubby :)Will post other combos we liked later.

Today I am 100 lighter than the day my journey started in January of this year. That day I was 389 and so embarrassed of myself and how I got there. Even then I wasn't sure if RNY was for me (embarrassed but still in denial!!) But as it was necessary for me to get healthy I am so grateful for the chance at life it has given me. I am 289lbs today! 100lbs since January 70lbs since surgery.
I still have a ways to go but I am soo happy to be doing this for me:)
    Blessed for this chance

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for joining the forum and for sharing your story! You really are an inspiration to us all! It's soooooo hard while we are going through this but to see and hear your story gives us that little push we need to keep going! I really need to start working out. I have an "addictive" personality so I would probably use exercise as my coping mechanism. I can't wait to see what the future looks like for me. Thank you again for the inspiration!

Well depending on WHO it is you can always walk away. If it's your immediate family that you live with well.....that's harder. Let me just say that when I started this journey I made it a point to keep reminding myself that this is MY journey and no one elses. Not my husband's, son's, co-workers' or neighbors. That I was going to have to live with my decision and other peoples food choices. That's right...their food choices because if they are eating around me, I can't make them stop eating the foods they love or help with their food issues. With that said, it was fortunate that the surgery helped me barely want to eat let alone crave foods that weren't good for me. I was so thankful for that! Later on, as I could eat more and moved through the food stages, it got to me sometimes what people around me were eating and I couldn't or was too afraid to because I felt it had too much sugar or fat in it. There were times I got mad...not at the person eating but, at the lack of being able to eat myself because the choices available were all bad or I was sick of salads! ON a recent trip to Disney, being 3 months out from surgery...it was tough trying to find foods that worked and were healthy. I managed and when I started getting aggrevated with hubby's choices I just reminded myself again that I chose this for myself and I can do this for me and for the reasons I had the surgery. It helped me alot. So while he ate his Burger King at the airport, I walked away to find something healthier for me.
It's not easy, and at times you'll have to walk away too...but you can do it YOU'RE WORTH IT!
