I can't wait til the day I can go to a movie theater and not have to wedge in sideways! I can't wait to have any choice of Halloween costume I want (sexy French maid?) instead of having to be a pumpkin or witch. What is it you can't wait for?

Well, I have to disagree here. I am 9.5 months out and I do have a small bite or two of sweets. In fact, I eat a cookie or half a cookie and a half glass of milk about 4 oz at about 3 evenings a week. I said A cookie, not Many Cookies. The way I see it is that I am not on a diet, I am changing my lifestyle. I want my new lifestyle to include goodies in moderation. Depriving yourself totally of every goodie is setting yourself up for failure. When you eat carrots and Water until you lose all your weight, what happens when you start to slowly introduce the treats again? You baloon back up. Realistically, we are not going to NEVER have a treat again as long as we live so why set it up like that?
I am not saying we can just eat everything we want. I am saying that if you eat Protein first, snack on high Protein foods, you can have a small treat and it wont affect your lifestyle and when you are at goal, it will be super easy to maintain because you already incorperated those treats in, in moderation of course, and you have not felt deprived during your journey and you will just carry on through maintenance and the rest of your life, healthy and happy.
So, I say, after you move through your stages into solid food, if you want to taste a bite of a goodie, go ahead and try it. If its bread, you wont eat more than one bite anyway, its too filing and it makes pressure in your chest that is uncomfortable. You will not be overdoing it on bread, I can tell you that. But to deprive yourself totally, I think is a bad idea in the end. People who lead a healthy lifestyle have things in moderation. That is the key. Jmho.

Forensikchic, You just explained my philosophy on cheetos perfectly! I know they aren't "good" nutrition-wise, but I love them. I have a few here and there and then go on with my life. If I never allowed myself to have them, I'd crave them constantly! At least that's my thinking.

u do realize that ur building muscle and it weighs more than the fat ur burning, right? Stop agonizing over the scale and look at how ur clothes are fitting, etc. u can be losing inches and the scale may not have moved. I am to do nothing other than walking until after 6 weeks, then light workouts, building from there. A 2 hr workout seems like u may be overdoing it a tad

If anybody can speak from experience, I have tested the limits of my little best pal. Try eating pork stew a little too fast or just that one bite too much and you will be reminded rather promptly that you have been greedy. After 30 minutes of walking it off you will have rediscovered the respect.
I am four years out, and yes I can eat more than I could in the first two years. It does take a full 18 months to heal completely... a much overlooked fact.
HOWEVER - I still know when to stop. My kids know that when I hiccough I put my fork down. They all say "OH... Mommy is full".
SO remember, trust your tool and respect it or it will open up a can of whoop ass on you when you push it.

You don't have a pouch; you have a sleeve. That sleeve is created by removing most of the stomach and what is left is mostly muscle, so it's pretty tough once it's healed. Try to eat less than what it takes to make you full, and it sounds like you are doing that. Be cautious, but don't obsess about it. You'll definitely know if you overeat...and you won't want to do it again!
    Good luck!!

food has been your friend, your outlet for so long that food is where you turn. This is why we need to see a counselor or therapist. They help us to let go of the codependent relationship we have with food. Personally, I already see a counselor and I take Abilify, and I havent even had my surgery yet. But I know that I have to learn to hold my sky up. You too can learn that food cannot be ur comfort anymore. I'm not saying you need meds bc I take them, but you do need guidance and a therapist and nutritionist will provide that for u. This site is a great resource, but you need to go a step further and talk to a professional. We will always be here if u need to vent and if you need to, contact youp pcp and she/he will help you
