well, 1. because you have no choice now and 2. because this is typical. I lost 22 pounds my first 6 weeks and 10 lbs was from the first week. I was sleeved April 24th and just hit the 75lbs mark. I have plateaued, I have been frustrated and I have been where you are. But the weight comes off. I am not happy with the pace, but it has its bright sides. No loose skin, my hair has not fallen out, I was able to save some money for new clothes over the long interim. Hang in there and take it easy on yourself. Your body is in starvation mode right now. It will be a while (like 2 weeks) before it adjusts and lets the weight go.

Let's just face it WLS is a very personal decision. If you tell someone something they are gonna give their opinion. You know what they say, "Opinions are like assholes everyone has one and they all smell!" Even if you don't ask for their opinion they will still feel the need to give it because that is what friends do. So you will ultimately have friends that support you and friends that don't. If you guys are friends you should be able to tell her you respect her position, but you are going forth with your decision. If she is your true friend she will still be your friend after the surgery. You just need to know you may have to find support elsewhere. I am sure we have all been in relationships and we do not agree with something the person does or doesn't do. However, a real friend will still be there even if they think the person is making a mistake.
I opted not to tell my friends because I don't want to hear all the opinions and advice. I think I have beat myself up enough about my situation and my decision. This is not an easy process and not one to take lightly. It is an emotional roller coaster.

I withheld telling anyone until like one week before I went to get the surgery. I also had a hiatal hernia that was getting fixed so I just basically told everyone that I was going for that. As expected, I heard from my fat friends, "Well, I am going to do it the hard way and not skip out on the easy route" (P.S. they are still fat.) People LOVE you to be miserable because they can feel better in your presence. Your friend is threatened by your imminent success.
Side note, I went in at 287 on April 24th, am now 225 so the weight does not just fall off and the skin doe snot sag if you work out. (I do like 40 minutes a day).

Some people love having someone fatter than them in their life...makes them look good. Your "friend" sounds jealous and petty. Lose her.

so I lost 7 lbs this week after not losing more than 1 1/2 for two weeks. The Protein and Water is working and even if this is not seen again for another two weeks, this is a success. No more complaining. Not posting to brag (hate that) posting because a lot of others go through the same stagnation and it is impossible to see hope.

I have not had my surgery yet....so I can't speak to what you are going through and I am pretty sure an "aawwww, hand in there" is not what you want to hear...... Did you do a psychological eval before your surgery? I did mine not too long ago and the one thing I remember was some advice she gave me that went something like this.
You are going to voluntarily put yourself through a major life upheaval including physical discomfort and emotional distress and give up something (overeating) that you have depended on for years. It will be a long process to adjust to your new life, and during that process you are going to have several periods where you deeply regret what you have done. You need to prepare for that, expect it, and embrace it as a part of the process that you have to go through to get to a better you. When you hit that period you should tell yourself 1. I knew this was coming, 2. It is normal and necessary as part of a life change for me and, (most importantly) 3. It will pass.
I don't mean to speak out of turn because I haven't had my surgery, but I wrote this down to encourage myself if I feel the way you do after surgery......If this helps you at all great...if not--please forgive.....

I was sleeved on 4/23/12. As of today, I'm down 26 lbs. I don't do so good with drinking, but I'm working on that. I get my Protein from food, whether it's enough...I don't know. I eat meat, cheese, applesauce, fresh fruit everyday. As for the heartburn, my doc said to take Prevacid 2x a day. I never miss it. I'm doing pretty good with my Vitamins. This week I did a bit of exercise. I have no idea what the next month's weight loss will be like. No vomiting to date. Hang in there. Don't give up!

I am a month out on Monday and I have lost 6 pounds so I am sooo with you. But if you do a search on Google (and here too) about vertical sleeve weight loss stalls you will see that lots of people have had this stall experience in the first month to 6 weeks. Which I thought was really strange also because you figure a plateau will come later right? But I lost pounds the first week and nothing since. The other people I have read bout though.. EVERY one had a good outcome. One woman lost NO weight after surgery for 6 weeks (I would jump out a window LOL) and then all of a sudden it started coming off and she was very successful. We just have to be patient and realize that it will get better.
About the reflux, are you taking something? I had reflux before my surgery and the surgeon gave me a liquid medication called Ranitidine (spelling might be off) and I have been ok with it.
Good luck Pink!! Keep us posted.

Try not to be so down on yourself(I know, easier said than done)... we all have slows. It will come off,if you follow drs orders.
Not everyone loses at the same rate. If you can't exercise yet, WALK... Walking is what helped me the
most and still does! It will get better. Try tracking all your meals on myfitnesspal.com That's what Iuse.It helps me keep on track... Good luck

I don't think anyone asked but are you taking something for the acid reflux? If so and it isn't helping, call your Dr and ask for something different or if you can increase it.
Also, you are rocking with 17 lbs down! Did anyone mention the week 3 stall? Sounds like you have hit it - don't despair, keep on doing what you are doing, working hard to get your fluids in, and you will break through it! It's your body's way of catching up!
Did you take any measurements before surgery? If so, do them often while you aren't losing weight - you might find the inches are disappearing! If you didn't, take them NOW and often on your journey!
And the whole depressed thing? When you are burning fat, it is releasing stored hormones - the first several months can be very emotional because of this!!
    Hope that helps!

I too am just a month out from surgery. I have lost 32 pound since my March 28th pre-op. Since surgery, after the first week after surgery, I too feel like the loss is crawling. I was having a pity party myself and my mom (banded in 09) reminded me it's not a sprint, its a marathon. The doctor warned my mom that there would be some post-op depression issues and questioning why I did what I did. A life long problem of mine is that I always question whether I am good enough or doing good enough. I think we all face the issues surrounding why is this so slow, BUT when you think about it, when's the last time you lost that much weight in that short of a time period?
We can do this!! One day at a time.
