Yesterday was a great for me and I enjoyed being with my church family celebrating the 4th of July. I was so proud because my choice of foods was healthy and I was not tempted to eat the Desserts. I also noticed that I am able to bend down easier than before my surgery. Wow, I thank .God for this new opportunity. All the discomfort has been worth the effort. I only want to be healthy as in the words of my wonderful and supportive husband.

I went to the "Avenue" day before yesterday checking out the swimsuit sale - for my daughter actually - and I browsed the store to see what else was on sale and I it was mind blowing...everything looked HUGE, I felt like Alice in Wonderland..all the tops looked tent size, the maxi dresses were extremely long - maybe you have to be 6 feet tall to wear them and I'm only 5 feet tall....I tried on one little shrug in an 18 and it was too big...weird I walked out of there and felt a little EMO....after all these years of the Avenue being a favorite store, I realized I will never shop there again. I am happy about it, don't get me wrong...but it was like saying goodbye to an old friend...
Last summer I was almost 280 pounds....now I'm headed for Onederland...this was the best decision I ever made for myself!!! Sleeved 4/6/12.

Ok, so here is the thing...dehydration will make you sick to your stomach and run down. If you are playing softball and sweating that much, you are right. You are in trouble. I am not sure about what your nut has to say, BUT if it were me, I would add in some low fat cheese sticks, some sugar free popsicles, and some watermelon. Even when you don't feel like you can drink, the sf popsicles will give you fluids. Start drinking some low calorie gatorade. I think it will also make you feel better. It did wonders for me and was easier to get down than plain Water. It is very low in calories. You might also get the pedialite pops and freeze them.
I do know what you mean about food just not being very appealing. I feel the same way. Don't be afraid to pull from your early food list like Soups as well. I also make ground turkey with taco seasoning. Then I just portion it out add a bit of shredded cheese. A dab of salsa and bingo. One very flavor packed meal.
Get yourself a small cooler. I got one at Walmart that has a hard plastic insert, but is soft sided. Pack your chicken, egg or tuna salad in it, some cheese sticks, and a low calorie gatorade or a Powerade Zero (less than 1g of carbs). Then dump in some ice. Take that to the game. When you are on the bench waiting to bat, eat a few bits. Next inning, drink some gatorade or powerade. You are no longer like the others that can chug away, so you need to do what is right for you.
Have fun, but take better care of yourself or you won't get to enjoy anything. Hugs and take care.

    Hi April Sleevers!!
    April 24th here!
I'm doing well, lost 43 pounds so far.
I have upped my calories to 800, although I haven't actually ate quite that much! Almost made it there yesterday Since working out so much, I feel a bit run down, so I tried the teeny bit of carbs and more Protein and fluids, it really does work!! I was eating around 500-600 calories daily and it was ok, but keeping it between 600-800 seems to be just right for me.
I make smart choices and do not feel deprived at all, Im just loving the whole eating food again thing!!
If anyone would like to add me as a friend on Myfitnesspal, Im ChargersForever!!

I'd give it a 20 on a scale of 1-10. I gambled with my life and rolled a winner (so far)! I was given less than a year to live because of co-morbidities just about a year ago. I think I may just outlive that prediction if the Lord is willing and the creek don't rise.

That happens to me when I bite off more than I can chew, literally. My advice is slow down. It is the hardest thing for me to do, but I get the same reaction as you when I eat too fast.

That can happen, especially at your stage. Try eating half of that amount, waiting 15-30 minutes and then eating the other half. It's probably too much for your stomach to take at once so let it process it and then finish it later. This is our new self-regulator

    Hello,
I am new to the boards. I am pre-op and still not 100% sure that I want to go through with the surgery. I don't have any weight related health issues right now. However I could stand to lose 100 pounds! Also diabetes runs in my family in fact my mother died at only 36 y/o due to complications from diabetes. I'm almost sure I want to have the surgery but I'm just so curious to see how people feel that have already been there and done that. How would you rate your overall experience from the surgery until now? I find this board to be very helpful during this decision making process.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Neta

I'm one of those people who wished I did it sooner. I had a rough surgery but would do it again in a heart beat. I love being full with such a small amount of food. I eat healthier & I'm already off of hypertension medication. I'm only 5 1/2 weeks post op. I give it a 10 whether I reach goal or not since I'm already on the road to better health : )

If you have tried diet and exercise to lose weight and have not been successful and have decided that you will use Weight Loss Surgery then by all means, go with with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Of the 3 most common - gastric bypass, the lap band, or VSG - the latter is the most succesful and least damaging to your health. I am very happy with how I feel, how and what I can eat, and with my weight loss. I give it an 8. I'll give it a 10 when I reach goal

Yes, I actually tried regular chips, and they went down like nothing - very scary because I know I could have kept eating them and they didn't bother sleevie at all. Must be a "slider" for me! I haven't had fat free ice cream, but a couple bites of low fat ice cream, and that too was not a problem..... Maybe not the thing to tell you.....

Keep on keeping on...it will come off. Someone else said they had to walk three miles a day to bust their stall. I just woke up one day and had lost ten pounds from the day before. Plus, it looks to me like you have lost a lot of weight, so your body is still probably freaking out from the surgery. Try just a straight low-carb diet for a few days and see if that helps. I stay away from sugar, but I have found that seafood sits pretty well. And I have also found if I don't get in my Water, I will stall. Try giving up one thing, like something Splenda laden. I have found that Crystal Lite will stall me if I drink too much...but since my surgery, I love water - with lots of lemon juice...don't know why, because I never liked water.

Well, I have reached my second goal. This morning I was 289.6. So, I am now in the 280's. Yippie!! I also cleaned out my closet this weekend. I donated 3 garbage bags of clothes that I will never wear again. I also found a pair of size 24 shorts and I fit in them!! Ok, so the waist was a bit snug, but still, I could zip them and I could breath. LOL I will however wait another 5 to 10 pounds before I wear them though so that they are truly comfortable. I was wearing a size 32/34, so this was a major vitory for me. Now I am so glad that I saved all my clothes that were too small for me. They are now coming in very handy as I don't have many funds for new or even used clothes from the thrift shop. So, all in all, it was a good week and weekend this past week. Oh, I also found some low calorie Gator Aide that is lower in sugar than the regular stuff. It has been much easier to get down than plain Water and sat well in my sleeve as well. Heart flutters are much better too. I think my electrolytes/potassium where off. I did email my doctor though, so still getting it checked out.
Looking forward to another wonderful week with my sleeve. Best wishes to you all.

Eggs...eggs...eggs....I make bomb diggity scrambled or fried eggs! Ask my son who doesn't like eggs. They taste so-so now. I am 9 months post op and at first I was really sick behind them and stopped eating them. I eat them now but they still don't sit well unless I eat them hot. Granted, we are supposed to chew 30 times I eat them pretty fast. Once in a while I will have potato salad with more egg than potato but mix the bite and they are ok. I cannot eat deviled eggs or hard boiled eggs unless its mixed with another food like a Cobb salad. I cannot eat scrambled eggs if they are cold. Eggs have become hit and miss with me.

Kiki this is definitely a test of patience. When I went for my 5 weeks checkup, there was a man that lost 40lbs in 10 days, when I only lost 20lbs in 5 weeks. What a downer especially when my surgeon tried to down play why people lose different. I know its probably true, but at that time I didn't want to hear it.

I just baked some tilapia for my whole family..it only needed a bit of seasoning, you can even put lemon slices on while baking..its quick and easy. I made some steamed zucchini slices with it and rice for the hubby and son. I could only fit maybe half a filet and two zucchini slices minus the skin, but it was nice to have something that I could eat with my family.

Take your time and give yourself time to heal. Also remember that exercise is not always done on the threadmill or in the gym. Chasing after the kids, cleaning the house, cooking, vacuming, cleaning the kitchen, making the beds, walking up and down the stairs, walking the dog, etc is also exercise.

    Hi Ltarlton,
I know how you feel! I was sleeved on April 10 and the first several weeks were hard with liquids, but that's what you have to do, so that's what I did. Then I got to go to mushies - which was also hard, but again, you do what you've gotta do. Now I'm 7 weeks out.
I used to wake up, planning my food for the day. Hmm..maybe four slices of toast with some hot cocoa, gotta go to target, get a few bags of chips, maybe tostitos and a jar of cheese for a morning snack, etc. Now food is a job. Something I'm annoyed with when it's time to eat. Nothing sounds good and I'm so tired of Protein Shakes. When it is time to eat, I'm annoyed I have to find something to eat and then I end up eating too fast and not feeling great.
My NUT is also super strict. She said we shouldn't even eat flavored yogurt because it has (pause for dramatic music) SUGAR in it. Now I understand our desire to lose weight but I'm thinking a low fat yogurt with a bit of sugar probably isn't what got us in this positon in the first place. (refer to bag of chips reference!)
On a more positive note I have found that each week, food gets easier to tolerate. My first mushie food was hummus from my favorite restaurant. I was so disappointed! It tasted gross, I couldn't have any flat bread, and now, four weeks later, hummus is a great snack. I tend to think "Ok, the surgery is done, let's get back to normal" but I'm afraid normal is going to take a while and some experimentation.
