tex411 got a reaction from Anume 937 in We are a year out... How is everyone doing?
My surgery was April 2,2012. My last fill was September 27,2012. I have lost 87 pounds. But the past few weeks I'm battling allergies. At least 3 nights a week, I wake up with reflux. I ate at 7:30 and went to bed at midnight. I notice that when I try to drink something I will get the hiccups. Then about 2-3 am I wake up with burping and chest pains. Sometimes I can take some tums but I have to wait at least an hour before I can go back to laying down. Is this normal and should I call the dr?

Your body will only absorb between 20-30g of Protein at a time, so don't waste your time on protein that promises 40 and 50 grams. I buy a shake from costco (Premium Protein) that has 30 grams and is $24 for 18 shakes. There's lots of good ones out there, but I find I like these best. There's my 2 cents!

Sounds like you are achieving great results Bob! Keep up the hard work!
And yes, the scale is only one measure of progress - and likely not the best one! A lower measure of body fat is always better than a lower scale number.
I agree with your PA that you should fill the gap on your meal plan. Your body has gone all night without amino acids so refueling in the morning is very important to protect your lean muscle tissue.
This becomes more of a concern the deeper you go into the journey. When starting off it is less likely to lose lean tissues, however, the closer you are to goal the more of a concern it becomes - as very well explained by Tom Venuto in his recent book "Holy Grail of Body Transformation."
Most banded people experience heaviest restriction in the morning, and this eases as the day wears on. Unfortunately, that early day significant restriction greatly reduces the variety of tolerated foods. That is why I tend to supplement with Protein powders during the first part of the day.
Good luck and keep up the hard work!

I know that when one gives up one addiction (food), another one is likely to surface. At least sex is good cardio, good for the relationship, and not to mention it's lot's of fun!

Im sure my hubby is enjoying it (sometimes ) but seems to need a break (3 days) . I am feeling super sexy even with just 20 some odd pounds gone. I kinda feel Im more into it than he is. Anyone else encounter this, or am I alone yet again?

My stats...started preop on 3/30 with the intention of being banded on 4/12. The surgery was pushed back a week was actually banded on 4/19 (last Thursday). Anyway...weighed in at 234.4 the day I started preop (mind you I'm 4'11")...day of surgery was 217, today 5 days post op I'm 211.8...difference of 22.2 lbs from 3/30. Of course the last few lbs are probably muscle and I have zero energy...but hey I havent lost 22 lbs in forever. Hope to be in onederland in a bit...havent been there in probably about 7 years.

Most surprising thing about that day???? It's my wedding anniversary!!!! Guess I'll have my wedding anniversary and bandiversary on the same day - it'll be easy to remember.

The doc said its not about the weight you lose but the amount of fat that is around the liver. So make sure the fat content you intake is very low. And lots of Protein Shakes to help with recovery. Good Luck!

When I applied for banding the first time 3 years ago, insurance turned me down because I didn't have 3 of their 5 diseases. Even though 4 of the dieseases were in my family. I applied again in July last yast year still with no diseases and was accepted but had to go through nutrient classes for 6 months. I will do this for me and my family. I'm 43 with hubby and 2 teenage boys. I wanted to go hiking with my boys like I use to. I wanted to grow old with my husband. I want to play with my grand kids. These are my top reasons for doing this. Oh and to NOT get even 1 of their 5 diseases. Lol

Volleymom...I agree that you may need a slight unfill. I've also read other's posts about drinking something warm first thing in the morning helps to loosen the band some. I don't know as I'm not that far along post-surgery..but its worth a try. My surgeon also told me to be careful of milk, something about lactose and the band. I don't really remember because the only time I was using milk was with my Protein Shakes so I just switched to unsweetened almond milk. Saying a prayer for ya!

Got my insurance approval, started per-op diet yesterday - 2 Protein Shakes a day and one Soup.< /p>
    Surgery scheduled for 4/18/12
OH, and I committed the ultimate sin yesterday too.
I had my appt, had to run by the office first, so I grabbed coffee and headed out....
Drove for a hour in traffic, got there. Had our one hour group class. ( Someone asked about having Easter dinner - so the instructor said she'd give us ONE meal to have other food, but not to go crazy. Well now, lets think about this... Can we reallly be trusted to not go crazy? Although certainly not everyone, in every case, but as a rule we don't restrict ourselves well, thats how we got into this in the first place. )
Left the class, went to the office - didn't have anything in the way of a shake or soup there, so I waited. Got home, husband had a shake for lunch so he didn't want another one for dinner - kicked around at home, went to the store, bought the stuff to make a big pot of soup. By then the coffee I'd had a 7AM had worn off hours before and I was starving...
So I had TWO big bowls of soup, last night after 8PM.
I know better. All day I kept telling my self that going all day without eating was a mistake. I know all the rules - yet....

So, today was my 3 month bandaversity. I stepped on the scale this am and... I offically weigh less than my DH. I haven't been there since we dated over 7 years ago. It is an awesome feeling! I have lost 43lbs so far. I have also went from a size 24 to a size 16! I just wanted to share my excitement with people who understand.

I honestly can't believe that I am writing this post! After having surgery and getting on this board, I would always see people posting about hitting this huge milestone in their weight loss and I knew that it was a goal of mine, but really didn't know if I'd ever make it. But here I am, 20 months out from surgery and 102.9 pounds gone!! It's been a long haul -- losing some weeks, gaining some weeks, hitting a plateau. But I can say I'm really going in the right direction right now -- working out with a trainer twice a week and just started the Couch to 5k program, eating better, and just got another fill to keep going. I look at the number of pounds gone and still can't believe it. Hope everyone out there keeps going -- it can happen if we let it!! Have a great day everyone -- I know I will!!!

i love spaghetti squash. I use the Morningstar Crumbles, fresh mushrooms and some Ragu...throw in lots of spices and mix it with the squash. I like it so much better then real Pasta. I'm scheduled for my first fill on Monday, so this helps to keep me satisfied with very few calories since 1/2 cup of food is not satisfying me at the moment.
