Some of the people who have experienced slips or erosion have done so because their band was not properly maintained. I am not saying all but some went months or years, either being sick too often or never went back for fills or checks and unfortunately things can go wrong if u leave them.
My surgeon said that many of the minor complications related to the band are avoidable so it is very important u feel comfortable with your surgeon so that if theres a problem u feel ok to return to him immediately and not let things go.
i have absolutely no regrets about this surgery, i am a 100% happy with the lapband and if i ever had to have it removed then i would be gratetful for the help it has given me and wave it goodbye still with no regrets ...

My surgeon said most erosions come from people over eating and ther pouch expands so much over time. Like a dog with a chain to tight around its neck it will start growing into the neck.

My patient advocate said that any weight I lost before my first fill was "all me", it is not till the first and second fill that the band begins to work well for you. If you begin to think you are a failure you will continue to fail. Change your mindset to the fact that you are early in the process and need a fill at this time. Which appears to be totally the case. No worries, just be honest with your Dr and he can adjust you accordingly. From what I have heard, where your at is totally normal.

I am 4 weeks post op. Actually going for first fill today... hopefully. I lost 15 pounds during the liquid diet and then just maintained. Normally, I go down a size with a 20 pound weight loss (obviously I've done this several times!..lol) but yesterday I noticied my shorts were loose. Yep, went down a size. Then today the same thing happened. I tried on an even smaller size and although they are a little tight they fit! How can that be? I haven't lost anymore weight. And they are all Lane Bryant as I know some brands runs larger, ect. No complaining but definitely strange!

The night before I started my liquid diet, I ordered pepperoni, sausage and black olive pizzas for dinner. I intended that meal to be my farewell to pizza and I ate almost an entire medium sized pizza myself.
I am six months past my surgery date and nearly 50 lbs lighter. Tonight for dinner, I ordered that same pizza and I savored every delicious bite. However, tonight I was satisified after I almost finished a single slice.
I am in the "green" zone and there is nothing that I cannot eat.

Today is 2 weeks post op for me. I have lost 11 pounds since surgery, 24 pounds since my pre-op diet and 30 pounds since I started on my journey!
Overall I am feeling great. I still have some soreness in my side where my port site is, it seems to get worse with the more I push myself but I guess that is just the muscle healing.

I'm glad that article clicked for you. Marriage to anyone (or anything) is a big question mark no matter how much in love you are at the start. As time goes on, you discover things you never expected or dreamed of. Some of them are hard to take, and some of them are wonderful!

Same here !!! I had my sister over for the whole
week !!!!! And she is super skinny and she can eat anything and not gain a pound. And of course she wanted to go out and eat at the buffets (I live in Las Vegas) and all week was about food... but today I'm back at it again, eating what I'm suppost to eat "healthy" and back at the gym.

My children got more that at halloween too! This is craziness. I gave myself one extra cheat day yesterday but today no cheating!!! I am putting a couple of small pieces in their lunch box each day so they can enjoy it and I don't have to watch them eat it.

I just found out I may be able to move my surgery date up a few weeks which would start my pre-opt diet in one week! I cannot wait to hear, it all depends on my boss. He will let me know at the end of the day. It sure will be a long day! I look everyone's good luck vibes! It would be so nice to know the wait is going to be much shorter!
Crossed fingers, prayers, wishing for good karma!

YES...You need a fill!! The fact you are even discussing it proves you do. You are doing it purely out of will power, discipline, and counting calories as with any other diet.
One of the characteristics of the Green Zone is "Patient Satisfaction" and you are not there yet. Patient satisfaction will happen when everything "clicks", and you stop "Struggling" Listen to what other people say, and you will see how happy and excited they get and they want to tell everyone.
I get PM's from some people telling me how excited they are reaching that point. That's how happy they are!
You are not quite there yet. GET Aggressive!
When it happens, you won't be asking if you are but telling everyone you are.
Also, your Dr. will not give you a fill if your weight loss is good. If you're going to beg him, tell him how HARD it is to continue the way you are. Convince him it is your dieting and not the band, and you don't know how much longer you can hold out.
For me, it took 7 cc's.

It's not that you won't be able to eat certain foods (I was told I could eat anything, and I do find that true usually). But you won't be able to eat nearly as much as you could before. in the weight loss stage, when you're tight, you might not be able to eat, say, sourdough bread and may have problems if you don't chew steak well. However, I wouldn't use being able to eat or not eat foods as a reason to get the lapband. I remember my mom saying to me, "would you be able to give up certain things forever?" And I haven't, but really I would rather lose this weight than eat a bunch of bread. Things I really love like dark chocolate, cake, pie and chips I eat in moderation and am happy.

Ok so surgery was on 3/13/12. Surgery went ok allot more painful than I was expecting, but I have recovered fine. Today I have lost little over 30lbs and hopefully will lose ALOT more lol I start soft foods today and am so ready for something that is not pureed. I have my 6 week follow up appointment in a couple of weeks and am curious to see how that goes. I cannot eat much because it makes me feel allot of pressure just below my chest which I guess is normal. I need some support on my journey and thought this blog might help me relate to some people that have had the surgery. My husband tries to be supportive but don't succeed most of the time lol

I feel exactly the same way as you. I do not have my surgery scheduled yet but I am supposed to be dieting now. They are estimating I should be scheduled early June. My mind is saying that I want this so bad but last night my husband was eating jelly Beans. I know I should not have them and was able to hold back for a few hours. But the bag was on the coffee table and it's like it kept calling me. I finally broke down and ate a few handfuls. My late night eating is usually stuff that wont be helped by the band like ice cream, candy, chocolate etc. I have a double reason not to eat it as my blood sugar is right on the boarder of being high but for some reason I just can't stop. I have also been doing the, better eat this one last time with take out food lately too. I really have been picturing myself skinny and joking with my husband about not buying any new cloths now because I will need to replace all of them soon, but I am so scared that my problem foods can still be eaten with the band.
I really can't fail at this. I have 2 daughters age 7 and 5 and the 5 year old has Autism. My girls really need me and they are the main reason for my decision to have the band. I just hope that if I get a quick loss at the early stages due to liquid diet that will be enough to keep me motivated.

Thank you so much for posting. I have read so many failure posts that I sometimes get scared. I am scheduled to have surgery on 5/22/12. I am very excited and ready to make changes in my life. I really feel a strong desire to fully commit to all the rules and having foods that I may never be able to eat again does not scare me. However, I have never had long term success with weight loss so I fear messing up with the band as well. It is great to read someone else's story that struggled also and then is now doing very well. 60 LB is just amazing in that amount of time. Please continue to post your progress for everyone to see. It is exactly what I needed and wanted to read.

    I keep reading these posts
Saying 15 days out and 16 lbs down or 10 days out 9 lbs down and that you are unhappy with it? That is a lb a day! It is great! Be proud. I have also been told that amy weight loss before the second fill is really all you with little help from the band. Great job everyone!
