Pre-Op Diet Woes & Wows!
Im sorry girl. If you do break down, it's okay. I did and probably will again since I am only halfway through the diet. Lol! I literally feel like my body is rejecting these protein shakes (mood swings, constipation, hunger pains). Once you get emotional, you start wondering "is having the band going to be like this?!" "how will i get through this?". But I actually think this is the hardest part because we need the highest degree of self control, with zero restriction. This is a huuuge change for your body and your hormones are probably all over the place as a result. Have you called your nutritionist or bariatric nurse? They are a good support. We are also here for you whenever you need to vent. Together we will get through this. - Natalie

What Do They Ask At The Psych Eval?
- 6 Month Supervised Diet - Frustrated And Annoyed!
Ok, it sounds like you are following their instructions and being healthy. There is definitely no reason that should make you gain 7lbs. Have you changed any medications recently? I would ask the nutritionist of you are getting in enough calories. if you don't feel the weight loss counselor is sensitive to your needs, is there any way you can switch to a different one? Remember, these people work for YOU and should never make you feel like an idiot! The last thing you need through this journey is the extra stress. Wish you all the best- May Surgery Day Stories
Here is a great place to share your surgery day experience so those getting banded later in the month will know what to expect. Come here after your surgery and let us know how it went.- 6 Month Supervised Diet - Frustrated And Annoyed!
Wow. I'm sorry the doctor is hassling you like that. Some of them really have no bedside manner. it sounds like you either gained, or the scales are different. DO NOT attempt to lose weight eating only 300-600 calories a day. That is dangerous and could mess up your metabolism, causing you to actually gain. My nutritionist was big on not trying to eat like I had the band, before I actually get it. She wanted me having normal portions and calories. For next month I recommend that you and your wife log everything that you are eating in a journal and show it to your nutritionist. Don't be afraid to ask questions or get help with meal planning. What are you doing for exercise?- Medical Necessity
I have BCBS MN as well and was approved in 2 weeks.- What Do They Ask At The Psych Eval?
The computer questions are very easy to answer and I was laughing as I was going through it, because even a "crazy" person would know which way to correctly answer the questions to pass. lol. Just be honest and you will be fine! Then for the interview they go over your test results and ask a few basic questions about self esteem, emotional eating, how you may feel after the band, why you think you are overweight, and how it has effected you.- Bmi Too High...
Wow, a 15lb loss is awesome! Whatever root you choose I know you will do great.- Suggestions For Liquid Diet??
Yes.. It's like a thicker gatorade as opposed to a creamy consistency. Nice way to mix it up if you get sick of shakes!- Bmi Too High...
I know that must be discouraging but you can totally do this. I started out at 326 but lost 36 lbs during my 6 month diet. It is hard but a nutritionist can help you make a plan and stay accountable each month. What I did was cut out pop entirely and start preparing my own meals instead of going out for dinner every night as I used to. I also joined a gym (was always too embarrassed in the past but forced myself) and worked out 5-6 days a week. If financially possible get a trainer. I think exercise is what will make a HUGE impact in a short amount of time, especially if you have not been active in the past. We are all rooting for you!!! You got this!- Suggestions For Liquid Diet??
I recommend: Isopure - alpine punch Oh Yeah - chocolate Pure Protein - chocolate Muscle Milk Light - Caffe Latte You should be able to find all those at Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. They taste pretty good.- Good Bye Old Friend Caramel Macchiato....................
Muscle Milk light in Cafe Latte reminds me a bit of the white chocolate mochas I used to be addicted to. you may like it!- Pre Op Diet
I am on a 10 day liquid diet. Day 1-9 : 5-6 8oz. protein drinks a day. In addition to that I can have sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles, broths, powerade zero, and water. Day 10 : Clear liquids only. Something I am learning is that sometimes one bottle of a protein drink is counts as 2 "meals" since it is 20oz!- Newbie:))
Welcome! It is normal to be a little scared but you have come to the right place. Every insurance company has different requirements for you to qualify for surgery but they can give you a general idea at the info session you are attending. Do you have any health problems as a result of your weight (high blood pressure, sleep apnea, things of that nature)?- 11 Days Left!
Hi Amber. Welcome. I am 22 waiting to be banded on May 8 so I know how you feel. It will be a difficult but exciting journey! Congrats- Pre-Surgery Freakout!!
What is more risky? The risk of complications from banding surgery or the health risks associated with continued obesity? This is a very safe surgery and you CAN do this!! I am about 8 days away... I have freak out moments sometimes. I am scared to fail. I am sad I will never be able to eat as much as I used to... Because honestly I LOVE food. But I know this will be worth it in the end and that there is much more to life than obsessing over food. It helps me to come on here and read success stories. I also pray if I get stressed out. You will be fine.- Liquid Diet
That's a good idea. I had a couple people ask me to lunch and dinners this weekend. My sister has been a good support though. She says she will not be eating food around me for these 10 days and has been trying the Protein shakes.- May 7Th!!!!
Thank you. Congrats to you all. wish you all the best!- Pre-Op Diets
My pre-op liquid diet is 10 days. I am supposed to have a minimum of 5-6 8oz servings of protein a day. I have been having Isopure, Oh Yeah, and Pure Protein shakes. In addition to the protein I can have broth, low cal gatorade, sugar free jello and sugar free Popsicles. On 10 day I can have clear liquids only.- Driving After Surgery
I have not been banded myself yet so I can't speak from personal experience, but I wouldn't recommend that. You will still be on liquids or puréed foods at that point and it would be more difficult if you are staying out of town with family who doesn't know you were banded. I am going on vacation a month after my surgery and my surgeon said it is wise to wait at least 2-3 weeks after banding to travel. I don't know your exact situation though. It wouldn't hurt to talk to your surgeon and see what he advises. If you do go, have a great time - 6 Month Supervised Diet - Frustrated And Annoyed!
