Anyone have surgery day story to share? Here is mine:

5/8 - I went into Methodist Hospital at 8:05am, surgery scheduled for 10:00am. My mom was with me. I checked in and they gave me a blood test at the lab. Next I went upstairs to prep. It started to become real so i prayed and took lots of deep breaths. They made me take all clothes and undies off, put on gown, socks, hat. I peed in a cup (pregnancy test), answered lots of questions, finger prick, got an IV put in and got a heparin short in tummy. I am very afraid of needles but the lady giving IV got it first time and was quick. The heparin shot hurt a lot because it burns for 20 seconds. My mom was allowed to come up after that. We prayed together. Met with surgeon, anesthesiologist for last min questions and signed consent form. My mom took a picture of me with the surgeon. Lol.

They then rolled me down the hallway into the OR. Once I got in they stuck silver sticky things to me. I don't even remember them having me countdown. Next thing I remember i was waking up in recovery.

This is when the pain was the worst. I was too tired to open my eyes, but kept saying "it hurts, it hurts. Oh god it hurts". Lol. It was deep and sharp. The stretcher rolling over bumps on the floor was awful. I was taken into my hospital room. My pain level was an 8. They quickly got pain meds in my IV which brought it to probably a 5 or 6. The IV meds only last 1-2hrs so I kept waking up w/ pain at a 7 or 8.. However, once I was able to swallow i could take liquid pain meds which lasted 4-5 hours. Felt good! My throat and mouth was dry. My voice was raspy and dry, but that got better after more Water.

They had me practice getting out of bed, walking around a little to get gas moving. I also sat upright in a chair. My parents, sister and minister visited. I sipped some Water but had no desire for juice or broth. I stayed overnight. I felt very intense nausea the day after, whenever i moved. So getting the GI scan sucked. You have to stand upright and then the x ray table leans backwards til you are laying flat. I had to stop halfway because I felt I was going to vomit, but after couple tries got it done.

I rested for a few hours, then they gave me the Ok to go home. I feel so much better every day! The nurses and doctors were so caring and attentive. I really appreciated the quality of care I got.

If anyone has questions feel free to ask.

So Daisy you didn't mention taking barium, if you did how much did you have to swallow? How far did they tell you to walk? How much Water can you consume now?

Oops! Yes, I had to take 6 sips of barium Fluid. They wanted pics from 3 different angles, then repeated it in 10 minutes. It didn't taste that bad.

The first couple of times I walked almost all the way down the hallway and back but it was tiring and nauseating. By the end of my hospital stay they had me walking about 4 hallways slowly but easily.

They say I can have 4-8oz of Water per hour. I'm napping a lot but when I wake up, pour myself 4oz of juice and sip on it

5/11/12

Tossed and turned all night, fought with my bf most of the night for not telling me he flew in okay. (Terrified of flying).

Finally slept for maybe 3 hours. Woke up before my alarm and was ready by 530. Woke my mom up at 545, she shouldve been up. Then left the house for 6am. Got to the hosptial right on time at 630 and changed into my gown, nothing but socks and gown -_-.

By 745 my tests had been run my IV was in and I was being wheeled off to the I guess pre operating room. Waiting room I suppose, where I waited for my pregnancy test results to come in..told the anesthesialogist my cycle hadnt come back around since January. This is normal but precaution precaution. I met another anesthesia person and she told me I'd be taking a trip to Hawaii and everyone that went on her trips came back. She put something in my IV and I wanted so bad to ask " What if I'm still nervous?" But by this point I wasn't anymore. By about 830 I was being wheeled off to the operating room. I changed beds and they took my original one away and I was off to Hawaii.

Once I awoke it looked to be about 11 30ish. I heard then say my surgery took 1 hour 45 minutes, they had repaired a hiatal hernia and I was A okay.

Quick note: I was very nervous to be seen naked by however many people, but I was out like a lamp before the gown even moved!

Eventually I was returned to my original room where a girl and her parents were on the other side, did'nt like them any! Mom had left for a few, when she came back a nurse gave me a shot of Dilaudid and the doctor had come to see me. By 1230 I was able to change my clothes and get outta there.

I feel like I slept for two days straight. I was prescribed Percocet, which made me very tired. I was in and out, mostly out all of Friday. I eventually made it from my moms bed to my living room. My room was upstairs, far too far from the bathroom to go up there. And thats where I have been camped since Friday night.

Made a few videos since surgery, found my scale, down 9 lbs. And I'm typing this from work. I've been a bit sore and I'm having a hard time getting rid of the gas but overall I'm just fine! Did my make-up today and everything

Well I survived! I was so nervous and anxious I didn't sleep for about 3 days, but I was officially banded on the 16th. It went very smoothly. I arrived at the surgery center about 7:30 am. I got weighed in at 212.2 lbs, they hooked up my IV and I waited. Finally at about 8:30 the anesthesiologist came in, slipped me a little some thing and before we reached the door I was out! I have absolutely no recollection of any of the events that followed! AWESOMENESS! I woke up about 10 and was home by noon! I have been a little sore, the gas has been the worst part. Other than that doing really well. I am now allowed Protein Shakes, Water, tea, sf Jello, sf Popsicles, and broth for the next 14 days. Hope everyone is doing well! Good luck to those still waiting!

@bbbanded Happy for you being safe and ready to tackle the world. I was wondering the same thing you said about being naked with so many people in the room. I guess we are just another Lapband patient taking the last persons place to them. So they have seen it all.

Surgery this morning. We got to the hospital about 8:30 this morning. They started getting me prepped for surgery right away. I went in to the OR about 11:15 or so. And was home by 3 pm. My husband and mother were at the hospital with me. I even walk out of the hospital on my own. The gas pain is the worst in my upper chest area. It hurt to take in a deep breath. I have been up and walking around with very little difficulties.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
