When I was a little girl, I was never over weight. My parents are oth over-weight and put my siblings and me into sports all year round to keep us active. During my adolescence I was always athletic, but a bit "overweight" according to doctors.I I never developed good eating habits and my over-eating and constant junk-food diet never ended. It was apaprent that when Igraduated form college, I was noticibly over wieght and I would yo-yo up and down throughout my twenties.

My weight started to get out of control in my very early thirties. I reached an all-time high of 265 pounds and I was sick of it. I went with a friend who was looking at doing a weight loss surgery to support him through this process, and htough, "hmmm...I actually qualfy for this surgery!" I liked the idea of the lap band, it's totally reversible and a "tool," that stays with one forever. Still, the hard work was up to me. I met with doctors, nutritionists, and on August 1, 2008 I had my lap band surgery.

It took two years, but I lost 110 pounds. I worked with my band and "listened" to it.When it "told" me I was full, I'd stop eating. Those two years were tough, the beginning especially. There were times when I went to bed "head hungry," but soon I leanred to tell the difference between actual hunger and head hunger.

In the meantime, my marriage was struggling. My self-esteem was at an all time low. One thing people do not discuss is that relationships often change and fail after this process. All of a sudden, I was turning heads, feeling good, and knew I deserved better for myself. MY husband wasn't (and isn't) a terrible man, but like most of us, he has his flaws. When I started living a healthy lifestyle, he didn't want to make the same changes. I couldn't and wouldn't allow myself to carry on living in the manner in which he wanted, so we had to part ways. I had to put myself first and that made things really hard.
