Did you not get a list of foods from your surgeon for the various post-op stages? My surgeon's guide indicated that things like bread might not be well tolerated for up to a year, but toast might be better than bread. Keeping carbs low has been essential for my weight loss, so I pretty much avoided bread entirely for the first six months. Now I have a half slice of low-carb whole grain bread (25 calories, 2 net carbs for half a slice) for an open-faced sandwich and that's about it. Bread pretty much sits like a rock in my stomach. Same with other white carbs - rice, Pasta, potatoes. They're all on my one-bite-or-avoid-completely list, and I'm 10 months out.
At your stage you're also likely to have trouble with tougher cuts of meat - beef and pork, or anything dry.

My doctor told me to weigh my meats with a scale. Makes sense, I mean when you're buying it from a butcher they use a scale as well, not a measuring cup! Measuring cups are best for Fluid ounces or for "loose" foods like powders, rice, small pastas, chopped veggies, etc.

This may not be the healthiest of advice but if you want to reset your brain but still receive the "pay off" of chemical floods to the brain that your addictions are giving you (dopamine, seratonin, etc.) then run like the dickens on a treadmill or lift something super heavy as fast as you can until you collapse. The chemicals that flood your brain after major workout exertion (like sex) will truly give you a euphoric high just like drugs. Now, addiciton to exercise is a real thing but right now it's the way lesser of several evils and will still provide you with your high so you can gradually ease off of your other substances.

ShapeShifter said, "ensure that what you take into your body is worthy of feeding the goddess in your temple." wow . profound words !
I am a christian so I will translate the phrase to "our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so ensure what you take into your body is worthy."

Girls girls girls~~~ wow I live this everyday!!! my husband is extremely unsupportive, in fact he is sabbatagical (if that's a word) he told my 12 yr. old son there was no way I could lose the weight and further more "mom will ALWAYS be fat" hello!!! I am 8 weeks out on Monday and I have lost 55 pounds and for the first time in 12 yrs....I am under 300 pounds.
I come home and there will be twinkies, ding dongs, chocolate pies, cracker jacks and candy bars (my former favorites), will be piled in my fruit bowl.....ugg now It took me 3 yrs to save enough money for the surgery and I'll tell you all...I AM GONNA DO IT FOR ME!!! I want to be here to watch my grandchildren grow up...the 4 of them deserve that...and the many more to come deserve to know and love and be loved by their gma...
So good for you for taking the initiative to fund the surgery on your own...you will not regret it, I would do it 10000 X over again. I went to Mexicall and Dr. Aceves did my surgery $8750 and I was treated like royalty....was the best surgery experiment I have ever had and no pain...Zip ZERO none!
Good Luck and welcome to the losers bench!

Some people act like an idiot out of fear especially men it seems because they do not know how to handle this emotion as well as we do. I am proud of you for doing this as well as myself. This is our new start and everyone on this forum is behind you and will cheer you on. I feel like this is one big family and we disagree sometimes but we are always there to pick someone up that needs it. Congratulations on us making the best decision of our lives. I am praying for the doubters and people that just do not understand.

So I had been waiting and waiting for my dad to maybe help me out a few months ago with financing my surgery .. i would write him and he would think about it or not write back at all. Giving me some false hope that he might be able to help me out. So finally last month i just took the reins and decided to see if i could do it myself and went and applied at a couple of banks.. low and behold i got approved and am now set for surgery on May third.
Sooo anyhow I had emailed my father back to let him know to never mind i didn't need his help and that i was going to have surgery.. he never replied. He hadn't replied when i had asked him for help the last time either... Then after trying to call him a few times finally getting ahold of him.. i tell him that i'm excited i'm going to have this surgery and he tells me he wouldn't be excited he doesn't see why i would need to go and do something like that. He would never go have surgery from something he can do himself. Telling me he doesn't understand why i can't eat healthy and excercise... you know how tired i am of hearing this from people who just don't understand??? They've never been MORBIDLY OBESE in their lives yet they seem to know what we should be able to do ourselves. I told him if that is all it took i should have been able to do it by now. I just don't get it.. Why must those in our lives who know us best be so closed minded and think they know what we should be able to do based on what they know.
I had to change the subject quick because i could tell it was headed one direction.. which made me think.. all those months that he said maybe he was never going to help me anyways.. so I'm really proud of myself and putting my foot down to do this for me and not let anything get in my way. Thinking of it now i wish i would have done this sooner and not been waiting on him to decide my future.. it just makes me sad to think my dad can't even see the vision i see when i think of having this surgery and the effect it will have on my life. How much of my life has been wasted on wishing and wondering what it'd be like if i could just lose the weight.. it has consumed me mostly and i'm ready to be done with it. So to those of you who have loved ones who just can't see why you are wanting to do this.. Just do it and be proud of yourself.... they will only see the true value of this further down the road. I am so grateful my mother is behind me along with my hubby..
Thanks for listening to my vent.. feels great to have it off my chest!!

    Hello my fellow sleevers,
I had my surgery on Mach 29th. I'm still getting used to all the changes but so far im very happy with my decision! This last week I had went to my nieces school concert and I was able to fit in the seat without getting stuck, it was a wonderful feeling. But what was even a greater accomplishment for me was when I put on my "only" pair of jeans that fit before my surgery (and even then they were so tight they looked like skinny jeans), are loose and keep falling off. I also fit into 7 more pair of jeans that I had hiding away! I just love clothes so I'm so excited to be able to fit into ones I've only been able to wear once and go shopping for new ones!
Thanks to all of you for your support, positivity, wisdom & humor in all your posts! It's helped me through a lot of my days. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
    Xoxo Ashley

I have to say that I am very blessed to have such a supportive husband. He only praises me instead of bringing me down. He is also military. He is in the army and has a beautiful body and can eat anything he wants. My only beef with him is that he eats so damn loudly and I can't stand to hear him eating stuff I can't. Lolol some days I just want to take his food away. Other than that, he is the best husband in the world.

Ok... I cannot stop with the Dark chocolate Raisinettes. The fat girl inside my head is taking over.
Also, on the DH subject, mine says that he gets mad at me for putting too much food on my plate and not eating it. He doesn't get that it's as much of a mental process as a physical one. Get over yourself!

Don't panic, your only 9 days out of surgery? Way to early to worry about it! Your body has just undergone major changes - it will need time to adapt. Right now, your calorie consumption is way low, so it is entirely possible that your body is in survival mode and trying to protect its fat stores. Many times in the last year when I have increased calorie intake, I get past a weigh loss plateau and start to shed again.
Also, it is getting warmer and your body may be trying to store up Water against dehydration - so you may just be seeing Water weight.
    Good Luck!

I've noticed that my DH is also eating my portions of meals. It's like he's eating for both of us! He did this when I was pregnant with our boys years ago. I mentioned this with him and he too laughed it off. So frustrating. I don't want to turn into the food police, but something's gotta give. Sheesh.

I'm with you on the husband gripe too. Every night this week it's been Pasta or burgers for dinner. I can't do either, but both smell so amazing, then he'll have a big ole bowl of ice cream for dessert. I swear that he's overeating now, like he's eating the food I can't. I'm actually worried that he's going to eat himself to the point I was at pre surgery. I've mentioned my concerns to him numerous times, and he laughs it off.

I say dump the alcohol and food and go back to the Sex....It burns alot of calories and is an enjoyable gratifing exercise. Then go back to eating small portions and make sure you get your Protein first...then your fruits and veggies. But stay away from the booze as was said earlier straight sugar and that causes weight gain like non other. Make sure you get your liquids in and start making your yougurt smoothies again, the boyfriend will love them and they are good for you both!
Good Luck in your continued weight loss, I know you can do it!

I have a back injury, so I decided to soak in a hot, steamy bubble bath at about 4:30am this morning. As I was sitting in the tub, I realized that I had PLENTY of room! Also that my thighs are waaay smaller! Sooo...after lots of splashing around, I did something I hadn't done in years: I stood up from the bathtub without worrying that I'd get stuck! Lol! This NSV put the icing on my Wednesday!

Ali, first... you have NOT failed miserably!!!! You've done an amazing job and I don't think you should let this tough time you're going through diminish that... Next, admitting you have a problem is the first step.. I would definitely look into some support groups/meetings that are free as a starting point...
Finally, talk you your BF... what's not revealed can't be healed!!! You need a lot of love and support right now... He can't understand unless you tell him what's going on...be fair to him...
My love, prayers and best wishes go out to you girl.. You can do this!!
