  1. So glad everything went well! Get to walking and congratulations!
  2. I haven't had the surgery yet but I know I have to do this. So far I don't have too many health issues but I know its just a matter of time. My daughter has MS and even though she's doing pretty well right now, I know I need to be as healthy as possible so that I can stick around long enough if she does eventually need more help. Losing the weight is for both me and my child.
  3. Congratulations on getting your date. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything to start now. Good luck!
  4. I don't think Shoe_Vixen was trying to make anyone feel bad about not telling people. She started her post with the word personally so that's how I took her post - as her personal opinion. I've started to share my plans with family because, frankly I'm excited and tend to get obsessive about things like this. It's definitely a personal choice who you tell or even if you choose to share with no one.
  5. I'm doing the same thing. I've been able to shave a month of when I originally started because my PCP is willing to fill out the necessary form using my physical in January as the start of my diet. He was sleeved last year so he's really supportive. A lot of people get frustrated about this requirement but I think if you look at it as a ramp up period to make the necessary adjustments (not drinking while eating, upping protein, cutting out caffeine, carbs and sugar, etc.), you'll be much better prepared than if you could go in tomorrow and have the surgery. Fortunately, we're all in this together. Hang in there and the time will fly!
  6. There's a great thread that's stickied on the part of the forum. It has a lot of posts about what to bring and not bring. There's also a Word doc you can print off. Good stuff!
  7. Welcome, everyone! This board will offer you a wealth of information and support. Good luck on your journey.
  8. Its funny how people feel they are entitled to weigh in on such a personal decision. If you were having heart bypass surgery, they probably wouldn't question it for a second. Even my sister, who's incredibly supportive, said I've lost weight in the past so why couldn't I just try to diet again. But she's coming around thankfully.
  9. Thanks! I really would like to get these done in the summer as I've been taking classes and don't want the recovery process to interfere with that.
  10. Good luck to both of you! Let us know how you're doing afterwards.
  11. Congratulations on getting your date!
  12. This may sound like an odd question but will doctors perform surgeries fairly close together? Until this year, the only operations I've had as an adult were c-sections. My gallbladder was removed in February and that met my maximum out of pocket expense on my insurance. So, I'm trying to fit in as many things as possible since they won't cost me any more money. I'm already in the middle of meeting insurance requirements in order to get the sleeve. I've also started the process of getting my deviated septum repaired (ah, to breathe again!) I'd like to get them both done in the next few months (June/July/August). Has anyone here had multiple procedures done in that kind of time frame? Were you advised to wait for a specific amount of time before going under again? I did very well in both my gallbladder surgery and endoscopy/colonoscopy (except for stopping breathing a few times!) other than violent nausea from the pain meds.
  13. Welcome! We're neighbors, since I live in Garland. I know you can't have polish on your fingers because that's one of the ways they check to make sure you're getting enough oxygen. Not sure about on your toes. Maybe get a French pedicure? Carbonated drinks are anything that has bubbles - soft drinks, fizzy Water, beer, tonic water, etc. Gatorade, Propel, juices, etc. are safe as far as carbonation is concerned. Good luck and keep us posted!
  14. Man, I wish my sister's insurance covered this so we could do it together as well. Is your sister also on the board? Good luck to both of you tomorrow.
  15. Congratulations!
  16. Yes, you can buy them online directly from Premier's website. I believe they sell them in an 18 count count, whereas Sam's Club and Costco carries 12 count. I've got a day pass for Sam's Club and I plan on picking up some of these to try since a lot of people here rave about them.
  17. I did a Google search of Max Protein and this is the site that came up: http://www.seinutrition.com/products/MAX-PROTEIN.html
  18. About Time uses stevia to sweeten their powders. They have very few ingredients and don't have the artificial taste that a lot of other powders have. That's the brand I'm planning on buying (even though I know tastes can change post op). I would recommend just getting the basic flavors (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and/or unflavored) and doctor them up how you like. I've tried several special flavors and they're pretty mild. I think you're better off with core flavors and then using sf syrups, extracts and powders to amp up the taste.
  19. A word of caution - Even though the Nectar line is fruit flavored, it has a milky appearance when it's mixed with water. It also tends to foam so it can be a bit off putting. I think it's probably best diluted with more water than is indicated on the package and doctored with something to boost the fruit flavor. I think I'm going to try the grapefruit one over crushed ice.
  20. Blech, I feel your pain! I had to do the bowel prep for my colonoscopy. It was the worst part of a procedure that involved putting camera in my keester! I hope you have personal wipes or pain relief Neosporin. Take care and good luck with your surgery.
  21. The combination of surgery, protein and lack of adequate water is probably to blame. Miralax or Milk of Magnesia should help.
  22. I can so relate to this. Two years ago I went to an event at a car dealership and they posted a video of it on their site. I was horrified about how fat I looked! I knew what I weighed but I didn't see myself as I truly was. I guess it's how our minds protect us. But I do think it's important (at least for me) to see me how I really am. It's definitely a process. I hope to one day soon be shocked in a good way about how I look!
  23. Google the world according to eggface. Her blog is on Blog Spot so its easy to find.
