Hi all..just checking in. Banded 2/29/12---feel pretty good, wished I took more time off from work---been hard to return this past Monday but a girl has to earn a pay check. According my home scale I am down 14 pounds...I am going to judge it by next week's visit to the doctor lol. Mushies suck by the way! Come on now, we all agree to a certain extent that we are over all this yucky food lol. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there. The ultimate goal for me is to get off my diabetic meds and improve my health

Thank you so much for the great suggestions. I'm the same way, NEVER used salsa, didn't even like it. The day before it was time for my mushies I went to shop for what I would need and saw some fresh salsa and my mouth started watering LOL. It's pretty dang tastey.

isn't that funny!! I felt the same way, how can mush taste good!?
I add salsa to many of my foods now too, never used to, should have!
you will find that being more creative with your food choices and the spices you use will help keep you on track. hope you will enjoy the new life coming to you!
I often buy a turkey breast to roast, I use low sodium broth to baste it - soooooo
yummy! it is inexpensive and great for my daily Protein numbers. I also have omelettes using one egg plus one egg white. I am lactose intolerant so I can't add cheese anymore but have started adding chopped fresh spinach, onions & garlic for a dyno meal. Salsa is a good addition to it too.

I had my first "mushy" dinner last night. It was amazing. I had some pureed chicken (pureed with some mild salsa, cheese and broth) some mashed potatoes, some apple sauce with cinnamon and some cottage cheese!!! It was only about a spoon full of each but it was so good! I used a saucer size plate and my hubby joked about how from now on it's kid size plates and cups for me LOL.

My new exercise bike arrived at the house today...very excited, as soon it will be too hot and humid to continue walking as I was prior to the surgery. I have not felt up to walking since the surgery, and wanted to wait for the post-op appointment/clearance from the doctor before I returned to that exercise; either way you leave our driveway, you encounter multiple steep hills.
I've lost 20 lbs since beginning the pre-op diet...very exciting to have to search for a smaller size pair of jeans to fit me today. Sort of sad to realize that I have already "shrunk" out of several of my favorite sweaters...but I'll get over that!!
Very encouraged to read of so many of us "February" folks doing so well!

I was already in a zumba class once a week, before surgery 2/29, but I am thinking that, because of all the twisting, it may not be something my doc will want me to do right away. My instructions say to start out with things like walking, swimming or bike riding. I guess it gives that area plenty of healing time by not stressing that area. May be different for some others with their doc orders.
Anyone feel free to add me to your friend list also. :0) I am mostly using this site on my android so haven't seen where I have the option to add. I think it would be great to have a monthy titled thread started for Feb 2012 bandsters so we can follow all the way through and actually be able to go right to that months thread for info, chat, feedback.

it is one lump or many little lumps?? often wounds develop a hard area when they are healing. ive had it with various surgeries myself. if it really does worry you or you develop anything else, get in touch with your dr. im sure its a natural part of healing .. my hard raised areas flattened out and became softer and more normal tissue after a period of time.. it may take some months though.

To my fellow Feb bansters, I have started a Protein drink/shake board in the food and Nutrition section, I would love if you all visited the page and either gained some knowledge or leave some knowledge, so we can grow and have variety in our beverages since some of us can get board pretty easy....
    Have a great night...

God Bless You!!! Why is that anything else is hard to go down but sugar not a problem. I saw yesterday on Today Show (God was talking to me) Kathie Lee had a mound of all sizes of REESES CUPS (Why Those) Sitting in front of her through whole program, I wish I wrote down the quote and statistic that if you refraine from what you desire, each time it will get easier. I did so well in the beginning of my lapband but have fallen off course. Hopefully I am back up a heading right direction. At least now I am craving these shakes, alittle sick of chili though LOL Once you get your next fill you will really lose the weight. It is an awsome ride. I am at my sweetspot so they say, but I am gonna start back at the meetings. I just wish I joined this site in the beginning, because you are really aliitle lost mentally training your body what you can and cannot do. Good Luck to you friend!

Also the Protein Shake I love gives you options of getting it free. I have tried them all this one I am excited about. because of all the support, feedback from others, and recipes available to you. I now do two shakes a day and want to go to three because I love it so much. One thing it has done is curved my sugar craving. After I lost 150 pounds I was really being bad and eatting nothing but sugar (chocolate reeses). I was bored and lost on everything else I had consumed in the past. Somedays that is all I ate was chocolate, I was sabotaging myself. It was truly scaring me into becoming diabetic. Now since I have found this shake I don't crave the sugar like I did, I crave the shake, probably the caramel sugarfree Syrup makes it taste like I'm being bad. You can get that in your coffee aisles and will work in any shake. I just love this particular Protein because the flavor and all th Vitamins and support. There are so many different recipes I found to make your protein intake more enjoyable. I am a person though when I like something I stick to that one flavor till I get sick of it, but there are 100's of recipes available. I have the poduct on my website, if interested. If anybody needs some recipes just let me know, I know 100's. I am a women of habit, so I also eat nothing but chili, I will make a big pot of Soup and freeze in little containers, and pull them out when I need them. Through my experience you will find what works best for you, and when you find something you want to tell everybody. I am just trying to get these last 40 pounds off and it has really been a challenge for me. Hopfully I am back on track. If you go to the meetings (which I plan on doing) you also get so many ideas with what works with others.

Oh My I am 2 years out lost 150 pounds and have been the same weight for a year. I have found a Protein Shake I literally crave. The support you get and the differnt ways you can make it are numerous. Literally taste like sweet cream so that gives you so many different recipes. You get ton of support with other people drinking it. My favorite is a little caramel sugarfree Syrup, Decaf instant coffee, alittle cocoa, silk or skim milk and 2 scoops of Vi shape mix. This is a new product out that is becoming very popular, I have tried them all.Oh yeah It has 12 grams of Protein, but the Vitamins in it a galore. You can find it on my website, I truly Love the stuff. There are so many out there I don't like the over chemically tasting ones. I do love this one and hopefully it will push into lossing my last 40 pounds

I was so excite to see new flavors to choose from (like in the New whey) but when I checked he nutriantion label it lists collagen and my doctor said to stay away from those. I'm not banded until March 19 but start my pre-op Monday. I didn't think to ask why collagen was bad. I will see him on thursday and ask him, but I justed wanted others to know, that it may not fit into everyones diet.....I'm sad now. I thought grape might be fun. I'll let you know what he says.

Absolutely! I bought it from http://www.supplementwarehouse.com/brand.asp?brand=221
It's $32 now (on sale when I bought it), but that's still a good chunk less than the $59 on the manufacturer's site. Also, supplementwarehouse lets you pick a bunch of free stuff to add to you order at no cost. I got a shaker, a bunch of Protein bars, a pill holder (mon-sunday), and a couple other things that I don't remember.
So before you place your order, make sure you browse through all of the freebies. They're quality product and what is better than FREE?

    Hello Every one,
I am Sophia and I have just recently started my band journey. I was banded on Feb 24th 2012!! I am happy to say I am doing very well, and I am headed back to work after a week of being off.
One thing I have noticed in a lot of the forums is that people are having a hard time getting the amount of Protein required and recommended by their doctor. I have been very blessed, following in a couple different peoples foot steps, so I have a heads up on variety, this way we don't get board, get as much Protein as you possibly can in one drink, and did I mention variety. I don't know about you but I can only stand so much chocolate, vanilla, and strawberrie mixes.... also the thickness of some of those Protein drinks...can we say gag..lol
I am going to start a list of the ones I have started using, along with a web sight so you can see what they look like, these should be able to be purchased at a local Vitamin shop near you.

My goal here is to give you some knowledge on what delicious Protein Drinks are out there and to help you decide where to go next on your protein journey. Please feel free to add different recipes below that you may love...ie, my nurse love to mix the protein blitz with a scoop of her Protein Powder (orange flavored) so she has a 50g or higher protein drink! mmmmm

    Sophia,
Thanks for starting this topic. I am still at the pre-surgery stage, but I have been drinking 1-2 Protein shakes a day to try to get used to them and to try to lose weight before surgery. This information is going to be very helpful.
