Day 21 Post Op: Appetite, Hydration, Movement

Thanks for the support ladies! My husband can also lose weight without thinking about it. i actually took his surgery date because i was afraid that if i saw him in pain i wouldn't go through with it! he didn't have to do a pre-op and has lost 30 pounds since the end of january! he is so excited to have his surgery!

    No Easy Way Out

great post! i have been doing an internship with substance abuse addicts for the past 6 months and realized i had so much in common with them in my relationship with food. i was shocked and amazed. i am one of those bandies who has been shouting from the mountaintops about my wls and have found that most people do think it is an easy way out...although i am barely 3 weeks banded i am here to say that i have never worked so hard for something in my life!
  13. last day of internship! yippee!!!

To Eat Or Not To Eat

this is a great question...i wonder about this myself...the literature i was given pre-surgery said to eat 6 small meals to keep the metabolism going, but i am eating about two...yesterday was really hard for me and i ate under 600 calories...i hope some older bandsters will chime in...time is surely flying by!i can't believe its been almost 3 weeks...

    Consuming My Thoughts!

i too am consumed with thoughts of my band, food portions, exercise and what ifs...i am also still at home! i am hoping that when i return to work it will get better, but i am also thinking about how the band will affect my life when i get back into the thick of things!

    Lapband And Diabetes

I am diabetic and was banded on 2-15-12. i was not able to take my meds 1000mg of metformin and 5 mg of glipizide the day before surgery. after surgery my fasting sugar was 72...since then my sugars have always been in range between 84 and 118. i called my doc and she told me to completely discontinue the glipizide and take 500mg of metformin if my fasting sugar was 138 and above. she also told me to check my sugars more diligently as i was only checking sporadically pre-op. i am now testing about twice a day once fasting and once after a meal...they have continued to remain in range since surgery so i am no longer on meds at this point. good luck to you and follow the orders of your heath care professionals...i can't wait to see my new A1C:) diabetes is so tricky...

I Am Going To Do This

congrats to you on your decision to take this journey. i was also approved by my insurance for this surgery which i successfully had performed on 2-15. it was a process and there were times when i felt lost as well, but it all pays off in the end. i had a to have a year of weight history from my primary care physician, a psyche eval, 3 months of nutrition and exercise testing with a pre and post fitness eval, and my husband who will be banded on 3-13 also had to have a sleep apnea test. i was an easy approval as i have diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea. my insurance company fully pays for all of my diabetes meds and supplies and sleep apnea equipment so i am sure they were glad to approve my surgery! good luck to you on your journey and please keep us posted.

    Waiting On The Big Day

welcome to the site! i'm sure you'll find lots of love here!!! my husband will be banded on that day as well:) just remember the band is a tool and i think you will be fine...i am by no means an expert as i was just banded two weeks ago, but i am determined to make this work...many of us are/were scared to have this procedure, but i think we are more scared of what will happen to us if we don't do something about our weight...a year ago i was one of those people that thought i would never go to such drastic measures to lose weight, but look at me now...good luck to you and keep us posted.
