I'm am scheduled for surgery with Dr Esquivel on feb 24, actually me and my mm are going together, Avignon surgery back to back. We're out of Austin but driving to San Antonio for surgery at turning point center....
The experience has been great so far, love the staff at Austin office and paul has been great. Had an EGD with Esquivel 2 weeks ago and found him calming, caring, and reassuring.

    Hi everyone!!!
I've been so out of the loop, my husband had back surgery about 3 weeks ago, so I've been super busy taking care of him...
Hope everyone has been doing well!
I lost 23 lbs total, but have been stuck at same weight for the last 10 days... To be honest though , I have not been getting any exercise in next week I plan on beginning a couch to 5 k plan and want to run a 5k by end of June ...
I just had my 2nd fill and am up to 5.6 cc in my 10cc band
Finally, saw a nutritionist who recommended My Fit Foods as a way to stay on track with healthy portion controlled meals... I'm doing the 3 day challenge right now, and if all goes well, I'll try out the 21 day challenge... Hoping to get off this plateau and lose another 10lbs by memorial day!!!

I started mushies on Thursday , to be honest , I actually felt a lot better! I think getting some solid Protein in was helpful... I had scrambled egg whites, cottage cheese, hummus, and tuna salad
Still eating everything in very small portions, sometimes can't finish all, but overall feeling really good

So sorry for your situation. What a heartbreak! Unfortunately, a lawyer won't help in this cases, since that info is readily available to you as an insured. You could have called to check if your plan covered WLS.
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to either doctor or insurance company. Can you self pay or finance?
The sucky thing is there are quite a few companies that opt,out of covering WLS of any kind in their employee health care regardless of comorbidities and health issues. If your company opts out, than there is nothing any insurance carrier or doctor can do to help you get coverage.

Hi Sophia , I started at 232, was 224 day of surgery , weighed myself today and was 219!! Yay! So 13 lbs down from my heaviest! You and I seem to be doing similar! Let's keep it up!!
Have you started exercising yet? Beyond the little recommended walks? I was thinking of starting to do 1/2 mile to mile walks in the morning starting tomorrow , then jazzercise once I can start mushies

I think i went about 5 days post op the surgery and meds alone do cause some digestive movement problems. You are only consuming liquids so u wont get much movement either till u start on more substantial food. Walking and Water seem to clear the problems for most , but u may very well need to phone the docs and ask before it goes on any longer

i keep on track by following my own advice that i would give someone else asking me the same question
    Do's
Make losing this weight the priority in your life.
Make the scales your friend not your enemy.
Be determined that you will not get sidetracked from getting to your goal.
Try to get as much Protein from fresh food as you can, fish, chicken and turkey are good, some vegetables are too like frozen peas, then milk products like 0 fat yoghurt, 0 fat cottage cheese and skimmed milk.
    Become your own expert.
Learn from mistakes, like what food sticks and what food you can eat.
Do as much exercise as you can, find what works for you then stick to it, every day without fail, push yourself a little further each week.
Burn more calories than you eat.
Follow your nutritionist’s/dietician’s and surgeon's advice.
Use your own common sense, everything in moderation works well.
Make a sharp knife and a teaspoon your essential items.
Eat what your body needs not what your mind tells you
    Dont's.
Eat as little processed food as possible.
Dont eat anything that is white ( bread, Pasta, rice etc) too high carbs and calories.
Dont test the band to see the limits of what you can and cant eat.
Dont buy food that will tempt you, if its not in the home u cant eat it .
Dont try to cheat, the only person who will pay for it is you.
    Dont let yourself down.
Dont eat junk food as a treat, find another treat !
Dont get stressed or impatient, things may take longer than u want.
Dont make life difficult for yourself, have food in the freezer that you can eat, plan meals ahead of time.
Dont eat with your mind or eyes, eat what your body needs.
    Good luck

    Hi there and welcome!!!
I was just banded yesterday - we seem to be similar height/BMI etc... and fairly close in age. Congrats on starting the journey to the new you! I'm having trouble today telling the difference between gas pains and hunger pains.... I'm sipping Water, tea, and had a SF popsicle today. Tried some chicken broth but could not stomach it at all. Made me gag after just 2 small sips.... I actually am already looking forward to Protein shakes, but can't have my first one til day 7 - bummer!!!
Keep in touch, and good luck with your weight loss!

Hi! I've been lurking for a couple of days and finally decided to post. My surgery was 02/22 so I am 4 days post-op. I've been doing great physically, other than some gas on the first day and soreness around my port. I hate hospitals so I was quick to get out of there right after surgery and have taken time off to recover at my grandmother's house. This morning (about 2 hours ago) I had my first Protein Shake and I am super full. I think I have never been so excited about a Protein shake.
My head is all over the place. No regrets whatsoever. Just a lot of time to analyze my relationship with food and how it must change. I feel like I've gone through this before, 6 months ago when, after 16 years, I quit smoking. I've had to re-define myself in every old/new situation I am in. And while I was going through the toughest part of that process I would think: this is the first friday night of my adult life without a cigarette.
Today I have to do the same: This is the first saturday of my whole life without eating unhealthy fatty comfort foods.
My family and friends have been very supportive and I am very thankful for that. Everyone had the same first reaction, which from what I've read here is pretty common: "you're not big enough". But they all understood when I told them that I didn't want to wait until I was. I'd always been "chubby" and then graduated to overweight after college, obese was next. 4 days ago I stood on the scale before my surgery and weighed in at 202 lbs (height: 5'5). I am 28 yrs. old, and am ready to make the changes necessary now to lead a long healthy life. I already didn't give a damn for much too long, booze, drugs, whatever. I knew the band was right for me just by turning around and looking at my family, their obesity and comorbid diseases convinced me. People think this is the "easy way" to do it, I disagree...this takes a whole lot of conviction.
I've always hated that my character is judged so severely because of my weight, that people are allowed to label me as lazy, lacking in will power, etc. because of a combination between genetic disposition and a complex addiction to food. So today my main issue is what to say when after I've succeeded (I know I will) I'm asked how I did it. This might seem a little..."ugh" but I'm actually in a position where my honesty can reach thousands, where if I reply with the truth and say "I was banded and I followed through" and not pretend I just did another diet and more exercise, some of the taboo of WLS for at least some people, might be lifted. I'm not famous, just considerably well known within my business and have been honest about every other aspect of myself, including my sexual orientation. Why would I be so ashamed about this that I would lie? Why would I be ashamed about actually doing something positive about my health?
Anyway, sorry about the long rant. Congratulations to everyone banded this month! I hope we all keep sharing our progress, doubts, motivations, etc. here and supporting each other. We should all be very proud of ourselves and take this bold move not only as an opportunity to be thin, look better, or be healthier physically but also as a chance of a lifetime to redefine ourselves.
    Stay strong!

Now it's clam chowder, lobster bisque, cream of Tomato, cream of mushroom, potato soups of all kinds... lost 144lbs on that my friends! I can eat other things but it's just easier with the soups. Feel great and everyone is saying that I'm thin now! Everything in my life has changed for the better. Congratulations to those of you just banded...hang in there. It will get much better soon. Hi Alexis:
Congratulations on your decision. First let me address the "easy way out" line. I would have those family members watch the online seminars for this procedure and make sure they know what you're going to have to go through. This is not an easy way out...it is a tool. Its a tool just like excercise or Weight Watchers or the phentermine. It just happens to be a surgical one. You will still have to watch what you eat, measure your foods, excercise and follow doctor's orders. Okay...now that I have that off my chest (and I apologize if it seemed rude)....
I was back at work about 6 days after my surgery. I am 4 weeks post-op and still am careful about certain things. My incisions have healed on the outside, but every now and then, I still feel a twinge here and there that I attribute to the abdominal muscles/nerves healing. As for excercise, after the first week/ 1 1/2 weeks, my doctor told me I could do light excercise and that if it hurt, to stop. However, your doctor may want you to do something different.
This a journey. Some days will suck (like the few after the surgery when all that gas they pump into you makes you feel bloated) but there should be more good days...like the first time you step on the scale and see a HUGE hunka pounds gone...or putting on a pair of jeans that fit...or when out of the blue someone looks at you and says "wow, you look great!" There's the day that you realize you've done more in the excercise department than you ever thought you would...or when you realize that you're actually full from a 1/2 cup of food. What ever day it happens to be, I personally think its worth it. It has been for me so far. and...you have other bandsters here to support you and answer your questions and to cheer along with you.
God bless you and keep us posted on your journey!
