  1. " I don't mean to poke fun when you are in a fragile state, but you have to get some bonus points for the most creative spelling of diarrhea EVAH! " I was just thinking the same thing.
  2. I was able to drive two days after my surgery. I went back to work one week later. I had no problems at all.
  3. Hi. Please don't listen to any negative comments. I can't tell you how this surgery has improved my life. I had a great marriage before my surgery but now - 4 months after - its fantastic. My husband is constantly telling me how great I look. Clothes shopping is fun now. And food is way better! Why? Because I'm eating much more frequently. And I'm alot more selective in my food choices. I eat what I want and I'm not on a diet anymore. You are making the right decision. Your aunt may mean well-but she's wrong. Good luck!! We're all here for you.
  4. Hi. I'd be interested in hearing more about your surgery in Coata Rico. How did you hear of your surgeon? Do you have before and after pics on the forum? And one final question, what's his name?? Thanks so much.

  6. Everyone starts out scared until they do their research and become more educated about the procedure, their surgeon and what's to be expected before, during and after the surgery. I was sleeved on Jan 18th and I'm thrilled with my results so far. I was a self-pay and flew to Mexico to have the surgery. I read this forum and others for weeks prior to the big day. I watched a YOUTUBE video and saw an actual procedure. Even though I used a different surgeon I went on dr Alvarez's website a lot because he posts YOUTUBE videos on a monthly basis and answers every question his patients ask him online. I am eating regular food and have lost 36 lbs so far. I never had any problems at all after my surgery. No pain whatsoever. I started out at 230 lbs and was wearing size 18 pants. I'm down to a 14 now and the difference in the way I look and feel is amazing. And I'm just at the beginning. There are so many terrific benefits that come along with shedding pounds you won't fully appreciate the list until it happens to you. No one can make this decision for you but you. But I'm here to tell you that you are very lucky to be so young and able to have this wonderful life-changing experience. I am 58 and wish I had heard of it sooner. I spent countless years as a fat woman in unfashiionable clothes stuffing cake down my throat instead of enjoying life as a thin heathy person. One of the myths of this surgery is that people think they have to give up food forever. The reality is- because you can't fit in as much food as you did pre-sleeve, you wind up eating more frequently. I feel like I'm eating all day. I am not on a diet anymore and if I feel like eating a few bites of cake I eat it. I'm conscious of carbs but I don't dwell on them like I did in the past. So the bottom line is - educate yourself and then decide. If this isn't for you , then at least you'll be making your decision based on knowledge instead of fear. Good luck!
  7. http://www.wls4betterlife.com/index.html You're better off calling his cell phone.
  8. I only took 8 days off. I had my surgery at 2:30 on a Wednesday, flew home on Sunday morning (a 6 hr flight) stayed home the following week (but went out of the house a few times) and then returned to work the following Monday. I was fine. I wasn't tired at all.
  9. Forget Sandy and read earlier posts. Everytime she opens her mouth the lies get worse. Just call dr Kelly on his cell and drop Sandy. You called his old coordinator.
  10. That would be terrific. Good luck!!
  11. Congrats and glad you're home and feeling good. Mexico was an experience right? I had a great time. Even though I had surgery I felt like I was on a mini-vacation.
  12. I was there along with Janet56 on 1/18. Both of us are doing extremely well. Neither of us had any complications. We stay in touch with Dr. Kelly and his wife via email. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. All the back and forth blabber going on in this forum and Gastric Sleeve is just crap. The only thing the coordinators do for you is email you the pre and post diet and make hotel arrangements. Dr. Kelly's wife has taken over those tasks. Ladies, this is no big deal. Trust me. Call Dr. Kelly and speak with him yourself. I did. BTW, could you imagine calling a surgeon in the US and asking him any pre-surgery questions? Not on your life. You'd ask his nurse or someone is his office or you'd get a pre-printed "what I need to know about my gastric sleeve surgery" pamphlet. I know surgery is a big deal, and everyone on this forum should choose the surgeon they feel most comfortable with. But seriously, all this wasted talk regarding the coordinators is making everyone take their eyes off the important stuff - the doctor.
  13. I was just at Florence Hospital and the room was extremely clean. It's an old hospital, but so is Mi Doctor. By the way, if you use Dr. Kelly you won't have your leak test done at Mi Doctor either. Dr. Kelly uses Hospital Angeles which appeared to be one of Mexico's newest hospitals. Surgery there would cost around 10K for use of the hospital alone. The leak test is done in a very sophisticated lab by an independent lab technician. So don't be misled. Read other peoples reviews on here and make your own decision.
  14. I was sleeved on 1/18 and stayed in room #214 at Florence Hospital. The reason I'm mentioning the room number is because it the furthest room from the nurses station: and that's where I think most of the noise comes from. My husband slept in the hard-as-a-brick guest bed. That room also had a recliner when we were there. I was told that all the guest beds are equally uncomfortable. It's the price we pay to get this done. The only thing I can think of would be to bring an eggcrate mattress (you can find them online or at Steinmart pretty cheap) and don't open the bag until you get to the hospital. Otherwise you won't be able to fold it back small enough to get it to MX. Here's a thought: maybe one or two people could invest in the eggcrates then leave them with Trish or someone reliable for the next sleever. It will make a world of difference for anyone who has to sleep on that bed, trust me. The hospital bed by contrast was extremely comfortable.

Hi, I'm struggling to get in enough calories. I'm eating three meals a day and my protein is fine, but I can't get in more than around 350 calories. What did you eat that raised your caloric intake? Thanks!
  16. My doc prescribed generic Prilosec and it comes in capsules. I had my surgery on 1/18 and I have no trouble at all swallowing any kind of capsule. The antibiotics were way bigger than these and I got them down just fine too.
  17. Hi. I was sleeved the same day as you and I am having no major problems. I started eating cottage cheese and discovered I might be lactose intolerant, so I took a Lactaid and now I'm fine. I haven't thrown up once. As a matter of fact, because we eat such small amounts I feel like I'm eating all day now. I'm not over- stuffing myself: I stop when I feel full and then eat more when I feel like it again. I'm really enjoying the weight loss ( I'm down 20lbs) and looking forward to the weeks ahead. I never used to drink tea before but they served me peach tea at the hotel after my surgery and now I'm in love with it. I'm eating small punts of oatmeal , yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. I never, ever feel nauseous. I hope you read some of the success stories on this forum and the other ones on Gastric Sleeve. Another resource would be Dr Alvarez. He's on twitter. Go to his website and look up his YouTube videos. He answers everyone's questions. Not just those of his own patients. You can also email him. Endobariatrics.com Keep us posted. I'm sure you're not the only one who feels this way. You'll be just fine!
  18. If you go on the Gastric Sleeve Forum someone just returned from her surgery with Dr. Almanza and had quite a lot to say about the clinic, the noise at the recovery house and the amount of people packed in there. They had to leave and go to a hotel. I heard he's an excellent doctor. All things being equal, I just wanted my Tijuana experience to be fun, safe and productive. I had a great time.
  19. Well said. I can't think of anything to add to this.
  20. Holy cow. Well that makes me feel a whole lot better. Thank you for your reply. Did you have much pain or any problems once you returned home?
