Denied Lapband
yes i have. since lapband statistics say a person is likely to lose 50% of their excess weight most patients with a bmi 50+ would still be considered obese, many insurance companies feel that isn't enough weight loss to justify the money. Not that I agree....just what I have heard.

I Didn't Want Anyone To Know!!!
Try not to stress over it. It sounds like she is going to keep it private. I wonder why we have such a hard time telling people.....We walk around embarrassed for being over weight.....then we are embararrassed to admit we need help taking control and doing what we need to do. I'm in the same boat. I had decided the half truth thing isn't me. There are a few people that Im close to that I wanted to tell, plus my family but the rest I didn't care. But I knew it was either all or nothing. Because eventually people would figure it out. So I had in my head I would tell those that I wanted to tell and then those that felt the need to ask I would tell. My husband discussed what I wanted him to say to everyone and thats what I told him as well. So imagine my suprise when my husband decided to give updates on my FACEBOOK page while I was in surgery!!! He was trying to be nice and keep those that knew in the loop.....but I can't tell you how uposet I was that he did that. There is a differnce in telling people and TELLING people. now everyone from people I went to school with 20 years ago and kids in my history class know!! I'm not sure how I feel about it. on one hand i didn't do anything wrong.....but on the other hand I feel like I had the rug pulled out from under me.---This just happened Monday...so I haven't felt likediscussing this with him yet....I know he didn't mean to upset me....but for some reason I'm really mad at him.

Day 4 Preop Diet....something Isn't Right?
I can only comment on may own experience, but it was stressed to me by my doctor to maintain a lean high protein/low carb diet.....This will send your body into ketosis and it will start burning fat stored around the liver. So I was put on a diet of 60 protein/less than 30 carbs a day/ less than 700 cals a day. He recommended 2 protein shakes and a lean cusine to keep it simple. It took 4 days before my body hit ketosis then I started losing a pond a day for the next 10 days!! It was amazing to see the scale change like that!! So it may be worth considering.

Caffeine And Protein
walmart sells a few flavors. you can buy them on amazon in larger quantities. They have definately made it easier for me to get to 60 grams thats for sure. Theyare about 2.50 each , but I get 2 servings in each...so thats about $1.25 a serving where the powder protein was about $1 a serving.

Caffeine And Protein
New whey is a great product to get your Protein in. 42 grams in just 4oz. Plus they taste nothing like the protein powders. They are more like kool-aid. I divided the bottle into 2 servings. so I mix 2oz new whey 1 crystal light flavoring 8-10 oz Water blenderize with lots of ice I like to make a slushy by mixing grape New Whey/grade crystal light or acai berry new Whey/blackberry-grape great value or watermellon New Whey /cherry crystal light

Cancelling Surgery?
It so normal to start 2nd guessing yourself. I have NEVER once reconsidered having the band....untilll 3 or 4 days before the surgery. Suddenly I started feeling like I rushed into things...maybe I was doing it for the wrong reasons....I rationalized it a dozen different ways as to why I shouldn't do this. Ultimately....I couldn't come up with anything new to tell myself....I was aware o the risks from surgery, I had educated myself on what the band can and cant do, I educated myself on the lifestyle.....So I decided that changing my mind when I was in the middle of the pre-op diet would not be an educational decision, but more of an emotional (I can't do this) decision. So my advise for you would be ask yourself.....am I telling myself anything new? If not.....Go for it! Now if you hadn't done the research then thats a different story? If thats the case postpone it and educate yourself......But my guess is, your as ready as any one can be......and you'll do great.

Banded On Monday
Im actually feeling better this evening....finally! I haven't had any problems drinking which is good. Dagmar- I bought the unjury unflavored protein amd mixed it with me tea. it flt nice onmy stomach. I still super sore, but i think it is more fromthe hernias and theaddhesions than from the band. How many incisions do you normally get with band surgery? I actually have 7. I was just curious how many extra I have.

Breakfast & Just Some Help!!
who said you had to have breakfast food just because it's 8am? Just eat something healthy. (high protein/low carb/low fat) Or if you are one of those people that can just do with out breakfast....then substitute with a protein shake. That would give you the protein you need to keep you going until lunch.

March Bandsters!
I'm 17 hours out and I have decided from hearing everyone talk, that I'm not stepping of the scale for 1 whole week.....I might need to put it in the attic so I can't get to it.--haha while on the pre-op I have got a lot of pleasure in stepping on the scale in the morning and having lost weight....But really have enjoyed steepping on it again in the late afternoon and weighing less than I did that morning!! it was definiately a boost!

Told Mum And Brother Me Getting Lapband Yesterday And They Want Me To Cancel
Let me start by saying you need to make this decision yourself, Family members may think they know best, but only you know yourself and whether this is the right decision. If you are concerned about your depression then postpone and schedule another appointment to discuss your depression? Be as open an honest as you can about your concerns. Ask him/her how they will manage you after surgery If you were to have issues. You might want to prepare yourself that seeing a pychologist after surgery may be need to insure good mental health, but that doesn't always mean you aren't a match for the lapband. Find a local support group where you can meet others in your area having the same proceedure.Educate yourself about the lapband lifestyle. Is it something you are willing to do? If not, maybe you should wait. If the thought of not being able to have this surgery breaks your heart then maybe your ready.Just remember the Lapband is NOT a magic wand! It will be a lot of work. As for the pcos I was so suprised when I joined this site to see how many of us have the pcos.....I didn't realize it was so prevalent. I think if you speak to a lot of us you will fine that....we can lose the weight (we have all done it several times) but we can't keep it off. PCOS just real makes it hard. something other people like moms and brother just don't understand if they don't have it. It just isn't a matter of eating healthy and exercising. Good luck!

Death?????
I have had the same concerns. I asked my doctor straight out how mant deaths have occured in his practice when it comes to lap band. He said none! And they have done thousands! But the the satistic is 1:1000 will die. and 5:1000 will have major complications. But that those that die and have major complications are usually already in horrible health and are hundreds of pounds over weight. That for those that are 125 lbs or less the risk in minimal. Hope that is comforting. It made me feel better.

Trying To Make The Up My Mind What To Do.
Im not making excuses for you, but I think I read on your profile that you have pcos. Well I know that you have made bad food choices, but pcos makes it very hard under the best conditions to keep the weight off. I will starve myself with a strict diet and excerise my butt off and lose every pound. But the day I return to eating more than 1000 and only excercising 2-3 times a week...I start slowly gaining each pound back. I have done this more than once. So since I just cant eat 1000 calories and exercise everyday, I gave up. Now 8 years later I'm 60 pounds over weight. I have pcos, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, memory loss, joint pain, and a hernia. Its time to make a decision. I actually considered bypass, but discovered the band. And it was a aha moment. It will do what I can't do.......make me feel full on 1000 calories. Thats what I need. If I could only be satisfied with a 1000 calories I can do this!!! So if this sounds like you, You can do this too. With or without other peoples support. Because you know its what is best for you. Your son deserves a mom that can kick the soccer balls around, hike in the woods and teach him a better way of eating---make sure to break the adiction!!! Sounds like you and your husband are close......I'm sure he will be there to cheer you on and pick you up and hold you when you need to be held.....nobody else would do that for you.....so what difference does it make if no one else knows....And the friends you make on this site....They know exactly what you are going through!! and they are always willing to listen and give support. Something that know else can do. Hang in there. You can do this if you put your mind, heart and soul into it....if not for yourself, then for Quinn and your other children. Good Luck!!

This Sucks!
Hmmmm. Being told what benefits and coverage you have seems to be a right to know. I would call back and demand to speak to her supervisor. then ask under what rule do they have the right to with hold information from you considering its your policy that you help pay for. You may also want to speak with human resources, the insurance coordinator may know. You may also want to call the center that is in your network, and speak to their insurance person. I know that my doctors surgery coordinator already knew what I was required to do for approval and how much I would be exspected to pay....without me telling her anything.

Surgery In 5 Days And Haven't Told Anyone.....
I had a real hard time deciding what to do. I am an open book and telling half-truths don't work very well for me. I don't work (for money anyway) but i belong to a homeschool co-op with 40 other moms. It was a kind of allor nothing choice. I hardly ever miss classes so me planning to miss a day was a big red flag that something was going on. Plus I have lost like 20 pounds in the last 3 weeks and people are noticing.. So I decided to be all in. My closest friends I told up front, the otherswill probably fine out through the grapevine, but I know most (if not all) will be supportive. I hope i can be an example for others that need to take control again. Whether it be throught diet and exercise or by surgucal intervention..(or combination of the two) ...whatever is needed... so many of my friends are in worse shape than me.
